Default V1 vs. Metallic Tint Test

Well, I am off to SoCal this weekend for a trip and my GF just got her accord windows tinted with Metalized Tint. She got 5% on the back 3 and 35% on the front 2.

She normally uses the X50, so it being metallized isn't an issue - but for the trip I am going to throw the V1 in there and see if the metallic tinting affects the radar detection or confuses the arrows at all.

I will let you guys know.

metalized tint will be an issue with any radio signal reciever. The fact that Belscort does not mention this fact of metalized tint does not mean it won't decrease performance.

Any metallic structure between a reciever ( no matter what type of recieving aperatus) & the source will decrease range and sensitivity.

It is not only a V-1 Issue, Just that Mr. Mike decided to make his customers aware of this fact so they don't get hosed.

Yeah, but are there any real world tests of reduction caused by the metalic tint?

Ya, I have 20% all around on my car, and holy ****. My arrows 88% of the time are switching back and forth. Even when its a store I pass on my left/right. I notice, it gets a BIT better when all my windows are rolled down. But when all windows are up, the radar seems to "bounce" around in the car or somthing, because constant on from the front makes the REAR arrow light up for half of the alert. Crazy stuff!

Are you aware of waht a "faraday (Spelling?)cage" is. it is a brass screen that is constructed to surround any item you want (including in the walls of movie theateres) to stop any & all radio reception. Metallic infused tint is basically the same thing. Radio waves have a very difficult time penetrating metal ( remember, no metal allowed in a microwave! same thing)

Here: I stole this from The V-1 website

The "terrible" cars cut radar detector range by 95 percent. Even V1 can't protect you through those windshields.

The "terrible" windshields all have a silver-based metallic film between laminations, usually put there to reflect the sun's infrared radiation. Ford had a different idea with its InstaClear system (now out of production), which used the film as a defroster.

here is the link to that page: http://www.valentine1.com/lab/MikesLabRpt1.asp

Is that proven enough to you from test results?

Well... We drove around a lot this past weekend and had plenty of encounters.

With the tint film that was referenced above, the V1 does not seem to have any problems with radar or laser.

Several different times we got a radar source from the front, and as we passed it the arrows reacted normally.

We also got several laser alerts from behind, through the metallic film and 5% dark limo tint - most likely from the newer cars with laser cruise control systems.

Maybe the tint does not have a metallic substrate to block the signals. I guess you got lucky on that one. Did the tint brand specifically state that it had a metallic layer? Darkness will only decrease laser sensitivity.
