So far I think it improves the 'J' function but doesnt completely correct it.

I had quite a few "J" alerts over the last few months. But not once was i unable to look around me and see some elcheapo units around me.

Driving from AZ to NY and back again I had such great detection. i was truly impressed.

Thanks for your reply though. Lets see if anyone else from my revision to the new one steps up to give there vote also.

hopefully ace_racer will chime in, he owns a 3.858 also and has, unlike me, owned previous V1 versions.

    Hi Guys,

Well so far my 3.858 seems to be working very well. I have received about 5 J's so far and 4 out of the 5 I identified as cobra's! The 5th was on the highway. I am also happy to report that I have received 0 E's! As far as detection goes for X and K bands it is good enough that if they were real alerts I would be able to slow down completely and with ample time. For KA band I haven't gotten over 1 mile of detection, but again it is still ample time. No Laser alerts yet but give me time because the CHP is stocking up on the LTI Ultralyte I believe.

My 3.854 version had a total of 0 J's but I also had POP disabled as well. I got 5 E's total before I finally gave up and sent it in. As far as the sensivity went it was adequate but from my memory was not as good as my 3.858 is now. That is for X and K band. With KA I believe my furthest warning was 1.8 miles. And again no Laser alerts either.

Now my 3.826 was as everyone knows great! No J's or E's! X and K band (with falses at least) was superior. With KA I got a 2.6 mile warning! Now I did get a total of about a 5.3 total mile warning once, but V1Dave brought to my attention that it could have been a couple of CHP's that were out that day which lead me to believe to get a 5.3 miles. Also, it wasn't constant. Meaning that the V1 did not display KA for the entire mileage. I just counted from the first little bleep bleep (alert tone).

Overall. while I loved my 3.826 very much and realize that when you have a good thing keep it. I am happy with my 3.858 as well. In my opinion if a detector (any for this matter) alerts you to a threat (or a possible one) and you can slow down to the PSL then that is all that matters. Sure it is nice getting those 1 mile plus and 2 mile plus alerts and they give us a rush but really it is not needed.

Well that is my experience with all of my 3 V1's and I have to always keep an open mind about things meaning that just because you have a bad experience with one thing once (3.854) doesn't mean that you will always have a bad experience all the time (3.826 & 3.858)!

    Sincerely,

    Ace_Racer (aka Ace)

I have a 3.858 and it works great.

3.851 is basically the same, there were several updates between 3.851 and 3.858 due to hardware variance and the "E" problem. If you don't get the "E" there's no reason to send it in for an update.

So far my "J" function has worked fine. Although I haven't visually IDed any Cobras after a J, I've never had it J out a real LEO. I turned POP off so I get fewer falses.

It also ghosts less than my 3.813 did, and the arrows are more stable.

If speed kills, how come I'm still alive?

Nice to hear you having good results with your newer version. Still have my 3.825 and still love it other than the automute thing. No E's here and just very few J's with LEO - no big deal. I treat every Ka signal cautiously.

Are you having fun with your new toys in your sig photo?

Thanks for the replies all. I have to admit also, that them cobras cause all my "J's" Not once did it go off where i didn't see a cobra around me.

Anyways looks like my version is still for keeps.....

    Peace and happy holidays all...

i've got the 3.854...hardwired..no problems or complaints whatsoever...excellent range, recently it seems my RD isn't falsing as much on the cruise control's and what have u...they only use laser in like one city by me and even then it's still a rarity so it doesn't much matter...no real j's unless i'm on the highway and when it happens i never see an LEO or have gotten pulled over so everything is good
