Default Room mates V1 is wack

My room mate and I both have 1.8v V1s in our cars. Mine is 3.818 and his is 3.6something. His has serious issues on K band. I can put the radar gun right next to it and fire and it takes his v1 a good 5 seconds to alert. The one in my car instantly alerts and you cant even trigger it fast enough for it not to pick it up. Even my road patrol xk gets alerts instantly. yesterday i had him drive down our street both ways and i clocked him several times and he never even got a peep. I think im going to mail his in. Will we get a new one for free, because its defective? Otherwise, he is just going to upgrade. What could this be?

If it's 3.6 something, it's out of warranty, so you'll have to pay for a new one, or pay for the upgrade.

First I would make sure to just reset everything on the unit to factory defaults just in case and test again before sending the unit in for service. If the unit is out of warranty (purchased over 1 year ago) then it will not be repaired for free. Also free repair does not include any hardware upgrades that came out since he purchased the unit. Warranty is also voided if he was not the originally purchaser of the unit. Good luck getting his unit fixed as it maybe quite expensive if out of warranty.

Which mode is his in? A, l, or L? Also, did he change any of the K band automute settings? If he changed options 7, b, d, E, and F from the defaults you would see those exact symptoms in L mode--a 5 second delay on K band alerts.

If none of the settings are changed or he's in A mode, then something is wrong with the detector. What radar gun were you clocking him with?

No, its the stock programming. I checked that first thing. Except X is off though. Anyone who leaves it on is just silly. Its way too annoying. Its only $75 to upgrade his, so thats prob the best option. Im hitting him with a k-band bushnell. I have 4 detectors and 2 are over 10 years old. all instant alert except his v1 A, l and L modes dont matter for K band. There arent any settings for delayed reaction, only automuting. and the decreased sensivity is for ka band. Its just wack, im sinding it in.

It's probably worthwhile for the upgrade. It might be useful to see how it responds to a different radar gun. Perhaps your Bushnell is on a frequency that that particular version of V1 filtered out due to falses.

yeah, I thought about that. But my v1 has no problems. Also, it is on the exact k band freq range, so I would hope that Mike Valentine wouldent be filtering out legit threats  . Personally, i want to know when I'm being tracked by ANYTHING that can read my speed. Even if it is a bushnell.

One of my old apartment complexes had a very gungho security guard that actually used a Bushnell speed gun to enforce a 5 mph speed limit. After a lengthy discussion he would write people up and send their names and other information to the apartment complex's manager. I actually was busted by instant on for 15 mph around midnight on a weekday night while working late.

Are you sure your Bushnell is at the correct K band frequency? If it's on the fringe of the band, that could be why some detectors aren't picking it up.

Perhaps you should try it with a X50 set to display the frequency and see what you get.

Jbird - If I had to worry about getting nailed with instant on in a 5 mph parking lot, I'd be looking for another apartment.

I moved out of that place for other reasons but the security officers I believe thought I was participating in some kind of illegal activity and took the opportunity to harass me about any little thing. Instead of complaining to the manager I moved to a new area that offered a higher paying job.
