Default Getting a 3.813...is there a warranty after tune up

So thanks to this forum, I've made an impluse buy for a 3.813 off of e-bay. I've gone quit nuts over the summer as I've purchased a blue Rev 5 X50 and a 3.813 V1 within the span of a month and a half.

Ahhh...the pursuit of the "perfect" unit.

Anyways, I was wondering what is the likelihood it will need to be tuned and what are some good ways to test if it needs tuning? Would going to areas where I get supermarket falses a good first sign whether or not it is working?

If I send it in for a tune up is there any warranty when I get it back? I think Escort gives you 90 days or something after you send it in for repair?

From what I've read on the 3.813, I'm very excited to get it. I'm curious to see the superior K band filtering it has in the big L mode.

I blame thestation for making me get the 3.813.

I swear by my 813 that I picked up this spring. When I got it, it was way out of tune and I sent it in with a letter asking that they do not flash the software at all. They fixed/tuned it for free and sent it back next day for no charge! There is no warranty on repairs, only on the upgrades, which you don't want. No big deal because even if they charge you to tune it up, you'll likely not have another need to tune for a LONG time and certainly longer than a 90 day or even 1yr warranty IMO. Good choice in detector! If you are like me and want SOME peace and quiet while in heavily populated areas where you probably wouln't speed anyway like near shopping centers, the 30sec K auto-mute is the balls. Have fun!

let me know how it works out for you. like I said there is no rhyme or reason as to why I think it has better filtering but it just seems like it does.

    DeadlyAP1,

Did you just send in your unit through the mail with the letter or did you call VR first and let them know about sending it in? I was under the impression that if you weren't the original owner and wanted to tune up your V1, you would have to pay the $45 fee. I know nascar got his 3.812 tuned up for free and he wasn't the original owner.

Now if there was some way to avoid the $45 that'd be great for me. I've practically spent a month's paycheck on a X50 and a V1.

When I first got the unit, I called VR and gave them the serial # and asked that they put me as the owner for that unit in case it ever got stolen or something. About a week later is when I sent it in with a note. I had shipped it overnight, so they matched the shipping to send it back. Sweet!

    DeadlyAP1,

So you didn't call before you sent it in? I find that odd since I thought you were supposed to get some sort of repair authorization number before you sent it in? Or is that only for Belscorts?

Must be for belscorts. When I called originally to change the serial into my name, I had asked what the procedure was for repair/tune. They told me to just send it in packed good enough and write a note telling what was wrong and put my credit card # on there signed to authorize repairs. But, they never charged it.

Well I just got the 3.813 and tried to test it out tonight. Turns out the seller gave me a V1 cigarette adapter that had a loose end, so I couldn't even plug it in since the end of the adapter and the fuse would pop out. Is there anyway to fix this? The end of the adapter is loose, like the casing is sort of lose so the little cylinder end will come off making the fuse come out too.

So I used my X50 cigarette plug to test out the V1. Would this hinder the V1 in any way by using a X50 cigarette adapter to power the V1?

Anyways using the X50 adapter, I ran the V1 through one of the falses I usually get with the X50. The V1 did alert to one of them, but not a very strong signal. I would get full alert with the X50 but for the V1 I only got a count of 5 dots. This would be the only alert I would get for the night. When I came back to the exact same spot later that evening to see if it would pick it up it was dead silent.

So more bad news is that later on, when I was switching between the X50 and V1 using the X50 adapter, my X50 alerted perfectly to those falses. After unplugging the X50 and then plugging the X50 adapter into my V1, I drove through up to the doors of Target and Krogers and this O'Reilly shop that runs X band. Turns out my 3.813 is way out of tune. It is blind to X and K band like some members experienced.

Argh, this is frustrating. I'm more frustrated with the fact that the adapter he gave me was broken. Plus I have to send it in to get it tuned (which I already expected). How long does it take for V1 to tune a unit? I might have to overnight it since I'm returning to school soon.

if you overnight it tomorrow you "should" have it back by friday. don't fear after she comes back your x50 will find it's self in the glove box or on the shelf in the house retired.

    mine is just amazing.

From most of the the I have seen on here it should be a very quick turn around. You may see delays depending on the S/N and if they have to verify it. Call V1 a head of time so they know its coming and they can get teh ball rolling on changing the S/N to your name. I would recommend sending copies of as much of the Ebay purchase information as possible with the unit. I would also work with your seller to make changing the S/N to you name as easy as possible. If he calls V1 to tell them he sold the unit to you, that should help.

One person is "waiting" to find out the status of his.

And these were my recommendations for an Ebay Purchase.
