    Default V1 Antenna Question

    Hi to All

Did some had already think about a king of antenna like the radio FM antenna reception that we stick on the glass, with a small cable going to the autradio ?
May this can be also possible for the Valentine 1 ?
    3 good points on that:
    1) we can stick the antenna on the glass everywhere we like
    2) we can put the V1 thenfore everywhere in our car easily
    3) nobody can imagine that there is a RD on the car
    4) would be very estetical

May be stupid or technicaly not possible but could be VERY conveniant for many guys ....

    best regards

    Fred

It's definitely not stupid but I don't know how feasible that really is. Our radar detectors use a horn antenna because it offers the greatest gain for such a small case. It also allows them to be directional, reducing annoying false alarms from the side.

One option might be to use patch antennas but you would need to have an array of them on the vehicle since they have to be tuned to a particular frequency. I'm not sure if that would offer any advantage over the standard horn behind the bumper as with most remote detectors.

You mean like the wire sandwiched between the glass like on old GM cars? Judging from my FM reception maybe not

Radar is typically much higher frequencies (10.5GHz, 24.15GHZ, 34.3GHz) than FM radio (88.5GHz, 101.9GHz, etc) which is higher than AM (540kHz, 1410kHz), so the antenna design might not be applicable.

Not feasible, for the reasons that Brick mentioned.
You could detect radar this way but the antenna would be little more than a feedline so forget about any prior warning, it would need to be at point-blank range. For any performance on these bands there's only a few options: horn, lens, or parabolid dish antennas.

    Hmmm....

I wonder if I got an old ExpressVu dish, 51cm diameter, supposed to run on Ku anyway could get some major RD reception? What if I got one of the massive 120cm dishes like they use in the Arctic?

    Hell yeah! MAJOR gain there.

How do I connect it? I got some RG-6 coax cable coming out the dish and an RD...

UNLESS - I just put the RD in the area where the "sensor" is, would the parabolic dish give me a gain? In a scrapyard I go to there was a pickup with half a dozen DirecTV dishes missing the reciever, maybe some business for Salzco Microwave Engineering

also ripping your V1 apart would void any possible upgrade
