    Default Updates

Just wondering, I was under the impression that as long as you were inside the magical 1yr. of(purchase) if VR had "NEW" updates, they would be given to us free of charge?

I currently have the 3.863ver. and was contemplating upgrading to the newer 3.864, for what? just to have the newer version. So, I call VR and the lady on the phone says: that I would have to pay $129, or, something like that to get the upgrade?? I could have sworn I thought I read somewhere on here that the upgrades were free, as long as we weren't past our 1yr. mark??

I have been known to be wrong

To be honest, I wouldnt upgrade the software on my V1, unless they came up with some weird must have ****.
There tons of people that have 1.7s that wont bother upgrading to 1.8 etc.
if it works, dont mess with it

If you origanally bought it at VR they will fix it and ship it back for free till the cows come home but when people hear about a new firmware that actually does nothing and consistently want an update it pisses the hell out of VR.
Mike has threatened to stop the firmware display on new units for this very reason.
So if you want an update? Pay the man!
Sometimes the update is merely a manufacture parts change.

I feel the same way.Sometimes they update it and nothing much new and they screw everything up and your RD is never the same.If it works great right now then why mess...

I read on here that the people with the newer 3.864 versions, seem to be having less trouble with: "the rear picks up better than the front scenario"? also, that the newer 3.864 might have a 35.5 off axis fix?

This might all be untrue and just peoples hopes that they may have these issues fixed, when in reality there really not? I originally had mine sent in just to get a retune b4 my year was up. anyhow, mine does work excellent! and would never give it up. when I spoke with the lady, she also told me to ask for mine to be tuned "HOT" which I did. so, when I get mine back, I will let you all know just how "HOT" VR, actually tuned it?? How will I compare this you may ask? my buddy also has a V1, and, I might have a buddy who is a hwy patrol...
Either way, my V1 is miles better than my old escort 8500 I had prior.

There seems to have been a lot of BS floating around this forum recently about the V1 having problems with 35.5. This is as far as I know, and most likely got started by someone taking something out of context.

As JAZZY stated in another thread, the V1 has no problems with 35.5:

It's NOT 35.5, its 35.5 off-axis, don't forget the last part. (Then we would have a huge conundrum. )

Everyone is referring to this: (interpret as you will. Taken from here: http://guysoflidar.com/july-2007/off...ctor-test.html)

I agree Hunter, but at 15*, the STI, X50, and 9500i, beat the pants off the V1. Whether people consider it an issue or a buy/no-buy breaker is there own decision. However, it is something that I believe do-diligent buyers need not pass over. (Then we hear "The V1 sucks. I got a ticket, yada, yada, yada"... )
