    Default Leaky detectors.

I was driving to work the other day, when I started to get a rear alert from the V1 on K band. Since I have never come across a LEO using K in my area, I didn't think much of it. I came upon a red light, and then the signal grew and grew and grew. Finally it pegged the V1, full alert, and noticed what I believe to be a RadioShack detector on the windshield of the truck next to me.

I never knew that leaky detectors would leak that bad.

    Hello,

Yes, they can be very leaky and be detected at long ranges at times. Funny how many detectors leak. I have a RDD (radar detector detector) and it alerts a lot to those 'nice' Cobras etc.

Had a back alert yesterday, seems like a lot more lately. Guessing due to all the nice Cobra's that people received from Santa last week.

Take care and everyone have a Happy New Year.

    I'm surprised you didn't get a "J-out..."

All detector's "leak" except the sti and even this may leak very very nominally. It is the nature of the beasts with their superhytrodyning detection circuitry. The CHEAP LEAKERS do it right in the radar bands thru harmonics. Good ones don't.

Even though V1 is K and Ka POP ready, Junk-out only works for Ka.

How much aggressive K-Band muting are you using Cips?

Ah, I missed that it was K-band. My bad. Normally when I hear about a leaky detector I just assume its Ka.

That's another thing, we occasionally get a weak K false from a leaky detector and just shrug it off as a leaky supermarket door.
I used to catch them knowing that there is no door openers in the area but now it's K automute that screens them out.

    30 seconds/stay muted at 8 LED's, and mute rear K.
