What is with all the hidden V1 setups. What does that do besides not allow you to move your V1 from one car t oanother?!

Dashboard mounting is for Cobra newbs.
Mounting high on the windshield gives improved performance compared to dash mounting when it comes to radar. Hiding the cord, helps keep thieves and other drivers from knowing you are running an RD. I run my Rd 2 inches above the wipers and use a coiled cord, but this is cause I have my rear window tinted and followers can not see my Rd from the rear.I also remove my unit any time I get out of my vehicle. I could care less if LEO's see it or not, but for some they do not want the LEO to see they are using an RD.
I got excellent performance having my V1 mounted low on the windshield. I now have it mounted up high on the windshield by my rearview mirror, behind a non-metallic tint strip.
It's almost invisible from the outside. I don't have to store it when I park at the movies, the mall, etc. I've got it wired into the powercord going to the mirror, it comes on when I start the engine, and goes off when I turn it the ignition off. The suction cups seem to have bonded with the tint strip, it never falls off, and I've had it there for many, many months. Valentine recommends mounting up high for performance, but the big advantage for me is the convenience of having what is basically a semi-permanantly installed, invisible (from the outside) detector.
The V1 is mounted high, hardwired and mounted off the map light headliner console, V1 controlled by remote audio adapter in the center console
No suction cups to worry about coming loose
No wires hanging off the RVM
The V1 is out of the sun reducing heat
With the CD in the instrument cluster, eliminates prying eyes of other motorists
Better RD view of the road and as you’re cresting hills
Quick, easy disconnect for the V1 and CD, it goes where I go
The V1 can still be used in other vehicles being a window mount device and using the remaining mount components
More difficult for a LEO to observe, i.e., you may still get a break if you do get pulled

That's how mine is mounted also and the range is nice. I road with my dad with my V1 mounted right above his RVM and the difference in what it picked up at the normal falsies compared to in my Subbie where noticeable...
Steve you might of jinxed yourself and your suction cups might let go
I will mount it as high as possible on my window and let the wires show for now. I might then take it to a auto shop to hide the wiring but I need it for my other cars. Thanks peeps!
How would high mounting keep you from moving it to another car? Mine moves very easily between cars, and it's mounted on the visor.
I do place my V-1 on the dash
when I'm cleaning the winddow
The conventional wisdom and Mike valentine would suggest a high mount and that is how I have always mounted my v1. But my OCD kicks in once in a while and I think my rear view mirror is interfering with off axis shots coming from the right side of the road and I keep on moving it till its right on top of my head almost but then the visor doesn't work and I don't like mounting on the visor because although I know they are microwaves, I like my radar detector touching the windshield. It seems to see further when its touching the windshield . Like a kid at the candy store looking through the glass can see better when he has his nose on the glass Thats a joke but being old with OCD is no fun
The other day I had it mounted below the rvm like escort recommends and it felt like it was extra sensitive. But then after running like that for a little while, I move it back right back up high where it belongs
