Is there a difference between the slim housing and fat housing? Reason im asking is becuase i want to buy a valentine and the guy said that he has the fatter one. Is is still upgradable and reliable?

I think that the bigger one are the earlier model, about what year i'm not sure but maybe some of the other members will know.
First look at the Headline, I thought you were talking about housing for Michael Moore!
Anyway, I believe the SLIM housing is before laser was introduced on the BOTTOM of the V-1.
I believe the slim, short housing is the most recent model. The fat, lengthy version is the earlier casing design.
My first V1 was pretty thin.
When I first upgraded to Laser, it was enlarged (made taller, top to bottom, which is what is surely meant by "fatter," even though that term is usually used to designate wider, or larger from one side to the other).
Upon some subsequent upgrade, the size reverted to something much closer to its original size, but of course still included laser detection.
Technically speaking there are TWO slim versions and one thicker one. Two slims V1's are the 1.6 and 1.8. Thicker one is 1.7.
the older V1's had several laser eye receivers on the "bottom" of the unit.
The new ones have one big fat one that works much better.
1.6: (has no separate band leds)
1.7:
