I agree,if a person with a V1 doesn't visit this site then they won't know about new features because VR doesn't come here. It was because of this site that we all found out. Furthermore when people called and asked about an upgrade EXISTENCE WAS DENIED. As good as VR is,I think that it sucks that a customers purchase as little as 30 plus days ago will have to pay 139 to upgrade. I would be pissed off if I recently purchased only to see a new ad in a car magazine about a new version, type in the serial number on VR's site and read "you already have the best" which would be BULL CRAP and you would have to pay more to send in a brand new unit.. That is a slap in the face to a consumer and I doubt that they give a sh*t.

It's no fault of VR. It is what it is. For those of us who do use these forums, VR will likely see a spike in upgrades.

For the people who make threats to purchase a different brand, please just do so. Your actions will speak louder than a bunch of words you post on the internet.

Mr. Valentine, if you are reading this, thank you for your efforts and keep up the great work. I will certainly upgrade my V1 and plan on calling tomorrow.

Quite simple again you want to SELL your product and you have updated features involved, get the info out to the public--you will get your followers that love this stuff and also get new business because now they KNOW. And to the others that may be shy of V-1 because of the K-band drones, now guess what its fixed and they could purchase and be happy--I say "Could" because they really will not know of any new feature to date.

Ok now that you have slammed VR and you call it a Mom and Pop store. You call Escort the Big Dawgs which they are but remember Escort makes about 10,000 different types of RD's to pick from. So do you want to pay $140 for an upgrade or pay $400 to $500 every year for a RD. Lets face it Escort could have combined some of there RD's instead of making 3 or 4 with just a few different features. So who is scamming who here!

It really wasnt a slam--I love the V-1, had the first one out and have been upgrading ever since, I have never had any other RD, so Im loyal to V-1, I just think they can have a little change on how they do certain things.

Not trying to continue what might be called an argument here but I think the way VR does its business like not doing any advertising or promoting besides their website kind of shows that they won't be quick to advertise updates. It sucks for the consumer hut they seem to stay too low key for them to make the effort to release this info.

I really do love my V1,it works awesome and is a favorite! BUT lets make some simple observations.
First off, there isn't a single company out there that is perfect. With that said, here I go.
    1. Escort has a website forum with a representative.
    2. Beltronics has the same.
    3. Escort/Bel is on this site as well
    4. I don't know if Whistler has their own site but they are on this site with a Rep.
    5. Valentine Research doesn't have either.
    6. Cobra who?
7.VR has "valentina the hun" gee, ain't that special.
I don't have to buy a new detector from Belscort,if I do and don't like it then I can return it.
I can return a new V1 but I can't return the upgrade that they have yet to advertise.
The jury is still out on the proof of a detection performance upgrade so there is no way that I will spend 139 for TSR that I can't return. Sure,I can disable that but that feature alone isn't worth 139. Oh wait,I would also get an "L" in the menu options. What is that for again?

In the past, VR has upgraded firmware at no charge provided there were no hardware changes necessary to accommodate the latest firmware.

So........it seems like sound logic to assume that the hardware has been tweaked in version 3.891, hence the $139 charge for a 3.872 > 3.891 conversion. Regardless of what Valentine is telling people, a hardware change almost certainly equates to some difference in radar detection performance for the better or worse. If early reports are accurate, it seems that this one is definitely for the better.

Valentine hasn't admitted to a change in performance since the first edition of the 1.8 hardware platform (except to indicate when POP detection was added). Why would they start now? I think they prefer to let the product do the talking.
