Is this worth doing the upgrade?

Hmm even at $179+shipping to upgrade the 3.864, I have to wonder how much my V1 would fetch on EBay and if I'm better off just doing that and buying a new one.
I bet the resale for V1's on eBay is going to suffer now, unless they're upgraded. No one's going to spend upwards of $200 on a V1 that could use a $189 upgrade.

On another note, both on my V1's will cost $189 each to upgrade.
Nope, just sold my .863 for 395, minus shipping and eBay fee, around 335. I originally bought it on eBay for 320, and decided to sell it there since its cheaper than getting a 190 dollar upgrade. People on eBay aren't half as informed as ppl on the forums, including me when I first bought it.

Mine said $189 plus shipping too.

How much are they asking now-a-days for a "Returned" unit ?

I may just buy myself a new one and give the old one to one of my kids.

VR will have mine tomorrow and depending on how long they'll have it for while upgrading...I will have it overnighted back to me hopefully sometime before Friday!!!

Mine was $79 to upgrade to the new features. Hopefully there won't be any more small upgrades needed to work with any of these peripherals they're talking about.

Just shipped mine out today. Hoping to get the updated one back by Monday. I'll feel so naked driving without it for a week.

    My report on my 3.872:

V1 Description: Radar circuitry known in-house as V1.8.A-integrated--POP2 with Euro Mode

Comment: This is our latest and best performer on both radar and laser.

Upgrade Recommendation: You already have our best performer, enhanced by crystal-controlled frequency tuning. More recent V1s, however, have two additional features. Traffic Monitor Filter eliminates the K-band false alarms caused by a traffic flow-measuring system being installed along some U. S. highways; SpeedInfo sends frequent K-band radar bursts into the traffic stream (www.speedinfo.com to learn more). If you drive in an area with one of these systems, this upgrade will pay off immediately. Extended Serial Protocol (ESP) enhances two-way communication with future peripheral devices (details to be announced).

If I sell my 3.858 on ebay, wouldn't I probably get ~$300 or so? I can put that towards a new one and have it cost me ~$100 to upgrade, rather than $189.

Many people here seem to think so. I say you are taking a risk. If you choose not to put your serial number in your posting, you will get emailed by some for it. Just watch a few V1's on ebay and see how much they end up selling for. That will give you an idea.

I thought about selling. But decided to send mine in to upgrade instead.

Hmmm...interesting. I would've never known about this if it wasn't for the forum. You'd think they'd send out something to customers that have bought a couple over the years.

I don't have much of a need for the newer features, but when one of mine dies again after the usual 5 years and I send it in for repair/upgrade, I'll at least expect upgraded performance.

My V1 arrived at VR today. Hopefully the turn around time is not too long.
