What's on the horizon for V1?

I personally would like to see some very much needed changes to the design be implemented.

I like the detector but a freshening is in order.

I keep getting this nagging feeling it will be sold to another party soon

Probably just an accessory ESP display with maybe frequency readout and some band segmentation. I would not expect changes to the V1 though. They appear to be satisfied with the V1 as is.

Seriously, In today's market the Valentine One is still a great detector, but in the very near future it will be obsolete. Escort has not been sitting still and will be rolling out new technology that will make all these analog detectors look like Fuzzbusters. We are talking another leap ahead like what Superheterodne technology did 30+ years ago. Detectors that will have better range than the current M3s and fast enough response time to catch even a 16ms POP shot........and, be smart enough to screen out those K-Band collision systems. Meanwhile, the V1 will still be playing second fiddle to what will be old tech at Escort in a Segmented RedLine with RDR turned off.

The SAVVY and ESP updates fell way short of bringing the V1 current with GPS and EscortLive functions available in the Escorts. In fact, ESP is just an abdication of the once vaunted Valentine Engineering ingenuity to any 3rd party that wants to take a crack at improving the V1. It says to me, the engineering dept is closed, so have at it boys.........see what you can come up with to improve my RD.

I hope none of you read any smuggness in this post as I am not happy to see Valentine become another famous relic. But the man better rethink his strategy if he doesn't want to be selling discounted V1's for $199 in a year or two. Start investing in the development of his product or hang it up.

I agree that Escort has not been sitting still and has been working with quite a few patents that are only beginning to come to fruition.

The V1 has been a fantastic product and it has grown to stay right on the edge of performance for all these years. Mike seems to like that little odd-shaped case and keep updating the internals, and I'm fine with that. But the competition out there has hit with some big stuff in recent years from increased performance to GPS to network connectivity (I don't call it "social" even if the ad dept. likes to use that term).

As mentioned the SAVVY was needed, but it's a pretty simple device and is not anything near intuitive or a smart filter.

I like having strong competitors in the market as it very much improves the products and services. I would hate to see the V1 end up like the Model T.

How many concepts can the V1 adopt? I dunno..perhaps a lawyer would be the one to answer that for them. But on the flip side, VR's patent of the multiple antennas for the same signal appears to be at an end. The idea of a Redline/9500 sucessor with arrows will probably be a big hit. Or better than arrows, use triangulation on the Escort Live screen to pinpoint the LEO spots on the map.

Then again, V1 already has the antennas/arrows, it's not simple, but add in a data connection to a screen to do the triangulation and mark the spots on the map. Maybe VR could cut a joint deal with Garmin or TomTom to have the GPS company do the maps/display side of things.

Triangulating a leos position based on detecting his radar won't work. You would need 3 RDs with GPS connection to know their position,all 3 reporting a single leos radar signal (from around him)with accurate signal strength at the same time to get even a close proximity of location. That won't work.
Try using your phone for your position using only "wireless networks",your location on a map will not be too accurate.

This is all a load of crap ! They are going to do this.........they are going to do that....... So DO IT !!! I've heard this for years. The only thing I've seen is what.....radar detectors in different colors with gimmicks ? It either does the job or it does not. Not about to give up the V1 anytime soon !

This topic has been played out for years. The V1 keeps chugging along tho. Everyone thought VR would cease to exist when their patents expired. This isn't a knock against Escort. But I think Mike and his company will be around for along time. When he does something, he does it right. I know as consumers we get very impatient when it comes to new technology. But Mike always reassures our faith when he releases an update or anything new for the V1.
