I've got a V1 from 2004 and a new unit purchased a couple months ago. I'm not sure I can differentiate between the two units in terms of outright sensitivity and traditional urban alerts. They're virtually identical.

Thanks. That's good to know. The technical difference from I've read on the site is that the new crystal board is supposed to help keep the detector from drifting out of tune. And the new ones can be band segmented. Good to know that other than that the performance is similar or the same.

I'm still debating about sending mine in for an upgrade so I can over sweep 35.5. In my state 35.5 is the predominant radar used and it is the V1's weakest. But from the tests I've seen oversweeping 35.5 turbo charges it on that frequency.

^^^ this was somewhat influential for me. My 2004 unit did drift way out of tune.

Also, I find the MUTED volume on the new unit to be weak.

The ESP feature allows your phone to display the false Cobra freq (plus deeper sweeping programming) so you can turn off the Ka Guard and see the odd ball Cobra freq and remain on the gas. Walley World has gotten away from the K band door openers, thank goodness....

or they could have drifted from the original k band frequency that is scanned

When around a Walley World and the RD does not alarm to the door openers, look up at the sensors. The large holes where the K band motion sensor was, a smaller odd ball looking thing has replaced the old sensor. It has been posted before what they went to, was it optical? Can't remember....

If you program the "L" and "l" modes correctly, and combine them with the right "muted" volume, you can have a silent V1 that will get loud only when you wanted to and still have visual of the rest of the alerts. Dig into programming these, it worked perfect for me!
