Weird K-band false

Running with my Pro78 today (Highway, POP off, Filter 2) and the weirdest thing happened...I was on a two-lane back road running PSL of 55mph. All of a sudden a vehicle came up behind me and obviously in a hurry because he started riding my a$$...well the reason I wasn't running a little faster is because my Pro78 started with a steady K-band alert and I thought a LEO was in the area. After 2 miles and a few heavy curves, I knew something was not right.

The vehicle was an "Infiniti", which I know can give false Laser alerts due to that system they are running that detects other vehicles around you or the cruise control system- But...there is always a but...he had some POS detector that was silver and black in color with black suction cups and the power cord attached to the front, left hand side of the unit...probably some "early warning" QVC speical, but I can't confirm that for sure. All I could see was from my rear view mirror sitting at the red light. At least he had it mounted level!!

So I started scrating my head wondering what was going on. The closer he would get to me the stronger the alert, then he would back off in preparation for a run on passing me and the alert would get weaker. We stopped at a red-light, and with him directly behind me, I got a full strength of 9. I turned, he went straight, and the k-band alert went away.

Assuming it was his detector leaking like crazy, how in the world can it not set itself off!!!!??? You would think with such a nice car, he could splurge for something a little better that what he found for $49.95 while channel surfing! :roll:

Anyway, I hate crappy detectors and if it was the Infinity, I hate them too!!

Cobras love to annoy the hell out of people. When i first got my 78 i plugged it in then i plugged in my pro 73 in another spot the 78 goes off on Ka band full strength. My 78 and all Whistlers i have ever owned have always confused x-band when off that it changes to K band I'm going to have a video of this real soon.

Yeah, I just started running HIGHWAY mode, and my 78 is doing the same thing.

We continue to add other radar detector signatures in the Filter modes.

Currently beta testing some upgrades including a few new signatures.

I will post when the testing is complete and approved.

Everyone: Please don't take this thread as complaining about the 78, I think it does a great job filtering out the crapras!! I can only imagine how many different signatures woud be required to have them all covered!!

It sounds like something you'd do with an anti-virus program or spam filter, not a radar detector.

Are there signatures for radar and laser based automatic cruise controls, Audi Q7's side assist, things like that?
