Default Help mount remover button broke off into unit Pro-78

Hey about a week ago I was putting my Pro-78 onto the mount when the button broke off into the unit. For the past week I have been pulling off and re-mounting the unit with the mount attached the only issue is the radar rattles like crazy in the glove box; also the suction cups aren't holding as well on the windshield because they cant get settled. I was wondering how difficult would it be to open the unit and replace the unit, also opening the unit going to void my warranty (if I have one), and can I send it back to Whistler on warranty (I have had the unit since august 07).

    Hi GrandCentral,

As you can see, below, the entire clip and button mechanism sits inside the top case. I don't recall if this mechanism is removable or if it is glued in. I don't see any signs of glue though:

Opening up a Pro78 is easy! But you must observe static electricity precautions:

    1. Don't wear any synthetic clothing.
    2. Create a static-free work area by working atop a large piece of aluminum foil placed on a table. Do not work at a table which has carpet underneath either it or the chair which you will be sitting in.
    3. Always keep part of your arm or hand in contact with the aluminum foil while handling the Pro78.
    4. Don't squirm around in your chair. Doing so can generate static electricity.
    5. Make sure that you observe Step 3 whenever you either pick up or set down a Pro78 component on the aluminum foil. Also make sure that you keep one finger touching the Pro78's metal horn assembly whenever handling its internal electronics board.

    Opening up your Pro78:

    6. Remove the bottom case screws.
    7. Lift off the bottom cover and set it aside.
    8. While doing Step 3, flip over the Pro78 and lift and flip off its top cover. Note that the cover must be flipped off after being lifted up a bit since there are two pairs of cables which run from the main circuit board to the speaker and push buttons which are attached inside the top cover.
    9. You should now be able to easily remove the broken off part of the button release mechanism, and check to see if the entire mechanism is merely snapped in place inside the top cover. If it is merely snapped in place, then I am sure that Whistler will be happy to send you this small assembly since obviously by this point you know how to install it yourself!

    Reassembling your Pro78:

    10. Reassembly is in the reverse order. Just pay attention to getting the clear plastic alert light pipe into its hole on the main circuit board. Also, remove any plastic debris on the case screws before reinstalling the case screws. Try to screw in the case screws so that they thread into the already cut threads in the screw holes. Mildly tighten the case screws since they are threaded into plastic rather than metal.
