Default Is it worth the extra $$$

I love my pro 78 and just done with traveling around 2500 miles over the holiday season and no tickets and i was running anywhere between 10 - 20 over psl and had probably 15 saves...that was the most my pro 78 had been tested and i was really pleased with it.

while i was in nashville visiting my sister she got a ticket a day before i got there. so i was going to sell her my pro 78 for $100 to give her a good deal. then i wanted to get a x50. previously to getting my pro 78 i had just the regular 8500 before it got stolen. becuz thrre was about a 2 year time span that i went without a detector, i dont really remember my 8500 being any better than my pro 78.

i say all this becuz i have heard that the pro 78 rev c is pretty close to the same in ka detection as the x50. so what would i be gaining with the x50?.....k band range better?

i really love my pro 78 and probably wont even get rid of it becuz it has performed so well for me....but if i were to spend more to get the x50...is it worth the extra money?

I would just hold out until Whistler comes out with something new because you know it is going to be great and I hope they decide to build a higher end one that is in the range of the $200-300 that will run with the big dogs like V1 and the 9500s

My answer is NO.. The Pro 78 provides you with more than enough time. With Whistler being one of the fastest response rd's and its very good at I/O attacks. My buddy's have X50's and they have tickets from I/0 that there detector totally missed from State troopers. Last year a guy blew by me on the Highway with an X50 and a trooper I/0 him ahead. I got the Ka alert around 1.6 miles. I stopped to get gas and the guy pulled in right behind me. I asked the kid if he got a ticket from the troopers Stalker 34.7. He said No got a warning for 77 in a 70 and my x50 never went off. I said well He hit you with Ka band because i got an alert a mile behind you for around 4 seconds. He said DAMN a Whistler?? The X50 is only noticeable with K band and x band. I owned 2 X50's and both failed. Look at the GOL test and look how many Bel/escort radar detectors missed I/0 35.5 Ka band. I purchased a Pro 73 and it was a very good detector also after expierence with the x50's from Best Buy. Rev C is underrated Look at my vids of the Pro 78

I think Mem-Tek mentioned in a thread that this issue was fixed by Bel/Escort. I know that when I bought a Bel RX65 in late December it had some blurb on the front of the box that Bel now had a very fast response time to I/O. I figure they put it on the box front in response to the issues they had previously. The GOL test is nearly a year and a half old, so hopefully they will be doing a new one this Spring.

In all honesty I think the x50 and pro-78 should be within the same price range by now, the x50 is a great detector, don't get me wrong, but it is outdated and there are several newer models escort has come out with and will be coming out with. If I was going to switch back to belscort it'd be for a 9500CI or bel STI-r remote system, the whistler windsheild mounts do their job as far as I'm concerned, if I want something more fancy I'm going remote.

I won't knock the 78 because I have never used one. I will say bull**** on the X50 missing IO because I think it is one of the best. In Okla. I get hit with IO all the time and not a ticket in years.
BUT, I just upgraded to the V1, just for the hell of it. Wanted a new toy.

700ms to process a radar source is enough time to miss a I/0 shot ! Why do u think they are updating there new production units with faster response time. Congrats on your V1

The X50 is SLOW to respond it always has been. The Pro78/695/690 are VERY fast

Well as I said, road tested. BULL****. Fine with whatever test graphs you want to us. I run it on the road, no better test. OHP uses CO and IO, no tickets in many years. It's a forum so this is just my proven opinion. You all run whatever you like.
