^It seems to be actually due to the same reason Michael B describes. The signal was initially not consistent enough for the a radar detectors to keep alerting, when they alerted, they saw a very strong signal. I believe I saw a curve in that video when I watched it yesterday, that could be one of the causes.

It is certainly possible that there may be several things going on here.

    1) As I have already acknowledged in the past the mounting locations are within the guidelines of both Escort and Beltronics.

    2) There are likely manufacturers variances between the performance characteristics of each remote which may or may not be perceivable in each and every radar encounter.

    3) The relative performance could be affected by either or both of these variances.

With respect to my videos, they are not reviews in and of themselves, they are documentations of experiences, unscripted and unstaged.

While I have written a formal review of the STi-R (one I stick completely behind) and certain SE Whistler models, I have not published a formal review of the 9500ci. With respect to the to comparative results within my other reviews, if you completely remove and excise any reference to my 9500ci, the substance and/or conclusions of my reviews would remain the same.

If I can find something suitable and still within the guidelines of Escort, I can then begin to re-analyze the relative performance of the Ci to the STi-R in a variety of configurations over an extended period of time.

Having done that, those findings could ultimately be incorporated into a formal review of the 9500ci. If this long-term analysis sheds some light on remote mounting do’s and don’ts, then I believe, I have accomplished something positive.

During the Redline run against 34.7 the yellow sign on the right exited the camera frame at 53 seconds and the Redline alerted 3 seconds later at the 56 second mark.
Therefore the Redline was 3 seconds after the yellow sign exited the camera frame.

The V1 against the 34.7 alerted 7 seconds before the yellow sign exited the frame but then stopped after 4 seconds of alerting and did not alert again until you guessed it, 3 seconds after the yellow sign fell out of the camera frame.

During the 68SE run against the 34.7, the yellow sign fell out of view at 53 seconds and the 68SE alerted at........3 seconds after the sign.

My thought process for the V1 alerting initially 7 seconds prior to the yellow sign is due to both its sensitivity and faster response to Ka than the Redline as I am sure the Redline in general should be as sensitive.

    What does this mean?

It may mean that if the V1 had a slower validation time for Ka, that the Redline, V1 and the 68SE would have all alerted 3 seconds after the yellow sign.

This is a case where raw sensitivity alone does not necessarily make for greater advanced warning.

I welcome any constructive feedback regarding the video.
You make a very compelling case here that the terrain somehow leveled the playing field for the windshield mounted RDs here. I wonder why, or how? The source seems to be pretty wide open and off-axis encounters like this are normally where my 9500ci smokes. Based on that, I'm surprised at how poorly the RedLine performed, since my V1 never beats my 9500ci on off-axis encounters and the RedLine should perform similarly.

I have a K speed sign near my work an a fairly straight road slightly off axis and my ci, V1 and ix all go off about the same time. Its as if there is some magic line.

    CJR238,

Perhaps this radar wave propagation encounter is somewhat similar to the following phenomenon:

    1) Sound waves from a high speed military jet (in terms of being able to hear it) as it passes.
    2) The wake of a boat disturbance in otherwise calm waters.
    3) Thermoclines adversely affecting ability of active SONAR under the oceans.

That makes sense. Its quite interesting because i can see the sign ~500ft away and non of them alert till i get to a specific point.
