Ive had my V1 for almost a year. Its version 3.284. Should I send it in for 3.286 or is there no real benefit.

Check to see if you are still under the 1 year warranty for free upgrades.
Otherwise - I wouldn't worry about it.

3.824 has the k band automute glitch thats all....sometimes it works sometime it does not.

I would do it because I use the K band automute but I am sure it will be free until there is a hardware upgrade.
I think right now 3.824 has current hardware.
Seems that when people had a POP unit less than a year then sent it in for Euro they had to pay $75 for hardware.
