what is it and what can happen if i turn it off, from what i understand ka is only used by police and leaked by cheaper Rd's, so if i turn it off will i have ka falses or what, im worried about ka because it is used heavily in my area and i dont want it to dismiss a real ka for a false and have me not alerted.

X2, Turning off the Ka false alarm guard on the V1 will make it practically false with it self.
carlito, How bad is your V1 smoking? If it is blue smoke it is burning oil!

If you are in an urban area, do not turn off the false alarm guard. You will get a lot of false alarms from leaky RDs.
If you are in a more rural area, like in between International Falls and Duluth, you may want to try running it with the false alarm guard off.
Turning off the false alarm guard will not affect the range very much if at all. It may affect immediacy of response though.
