View Full Version : Why Do People Bash Each other's Detectors?

What is funny is how some people want to right away say "mine is better than yours"? WHY? I know that as a Valentine One owner and an RX65 owner I like them both and each of them for different reasons. I PERSONALLY like the V1 better for a few reasons. I HATE the term V1 Zombie. One needs to ask themselves "why are V1 owners so persistent in defending and raving about their detector"? The most consistent reason that I keep hearing people say is because they paid too much for it and now feel like they have been ripped off? This is BOGUS since the V1 has AWESOME resale value. In most cases someone can sell it for the same price they bought it for! I remember being on www.opinions.com and reading people's review about how the X50 gave a 20 second head start warning compared to the V1 and vice versa. All of this is CRAP. I have owned all three detectors and I can HONESTLY tell you that all of them warning you just about the same with maybe a 2 to 3 second difference on RADAR. The only difference is X band and this is because the X50 is not equal to the RX65 and V1. The ONLY clear advantages the V1 has over the other two are the fact that it is a radar locator, has greater peripheral or wider vision, and the fact that its laser detection capability is unequaled. In terms of laser detection the V1 CLEARLY is on a league all on its own where it cant be argued. There are some features that I really like about each one. The X50's multiple band identifier, the RX65's talking band identifier, and the V1's arrows. Out of all of these I must say that I like the X50's multiple band identifier and arrows equally (maybe lean towards the multiple band identifier a little more than the arrows). The feature that I think is WAY overated is the frequency identifier. To ME this feature is useless but to some maybe not. The bottom line to all of this is that all three detectors are great. As far as the falsing issue each of the big three has their issues. The RX65 and X50 does not stop falsing with POP enabled and these are not just low alert falses but FULL BLOWN falses to the point where it has to be disabled. The V1 seems to be IN LOVE with K band and cant seem to get off this band. In advanced logic (the only mode I keep mine on) the falsing is much more tolerable but not on the same level as the RX65 and X50 with POP DISABLED. Now lets see what attacks arise  Keep in mind that these have been my real world experiences and not made up myths

Great summary! Don't forget that the V1 beats all others by 2-3 miles in Ka band rear detection and a 1/2 mile on X and K band rear detection. :D

Somebody needs to come up with a survey for people looking to buy a radar detector. Would you want red lights or blue? Metal or plastic? Best laser detection or above average detection? Heaviest or lightest? Longest or shortest? Weighs the most or least? Best X band? Best Ka band?

Have a bunch of questions that would point that person in the right direction.

Of course it has better rear detection...it has a second rear facing antenna

Happy i do agree with you but people feel the need to defend the thing they bought cause they would like to think they have the best. But the definition of best varies. Many see the V1 as the best but someone who hates falses might think the Rx65 is the best.

To each his own

It kills me when people say the "V1/X50/RX65 alerted me 30 seconds before the other" That is a full of BEEEEEEEP statement and right away the person loses credibility with me. I never had the RX65 beat the V1 by more than a second or two and I never had the V1 beat the RX65 by more than a second or two on front detection on any bands. The ONLY exception is laser where my V1 dominates

I'm extremely anxious to get it installed tomorrow. I will be driving a lot on the highway this weekend so i'm SURE i'll be able to test it out. None the less, i think it will be the best 400 bucks I've ever spent, atleast on my car. :)

The best advice I can give to people is to personally try all three on their own and not to trust any review. See which one fits your needs.

Yeah, I think it's kind of pointless, as well.

Of course, I still cannot get myself to return my V1 1.8/pop2 - and if I don't do that by tomorrow or Monday, no $400 for me. V1 ... x50 ... V1 ... x50.

By the way, whomever said that logic modes help on K-band, and that the V1 is slightly better on Ka ... hmm.

dooood the VEE-one SUX thaz why i slamz it!

kidding, of course.... like you said, each RD has its faults. I know the X50 has them but so do the others. Just use what you have, learn to use it to its full potential, and if you think you need to upgrade for whatever reason--do it.

I know, but I was hoping to go the factory route. I've always agreed with the "RX65 = x50 = V1" line of thought as far as performance goes, more or less, and here I am, not wanting to get rid of either of them. :)

The simple reasn people bash eachothers detectors is interesting, but this is what I have come up with. Usually I dont see to many people flat out bashing the v1 except for mr patterson. The people that get me are the ones that bash the x50 for having a plastic shell, or only showing 8 signals instead of 9.

Now, this is what I believe....

V1 owners that bash the x50 when they have never owned or used one, bash it for the simple fact that they are defending the $400 they spent on their V1 when there is a detector that is close to it. Plain and simple, thats what it comes down to. Defending the money that they spent.

The x50 owners that bash the v1 when they have never even tried or owned the v1- bash it because they simply cant afford it- or dont want to pay such an amount.

Anyone that bashes these detectors on lack of range make me laugh. In 04 the x50 was rated top dog and worlds best by multiple magazines. SO anyone that says its range sucks- well, your on crack.

It will be no suprise that the v1 will take the most sensitive detector in 05. So anyone that bashes the range there will be on crack as well....

I don't know if I agree with the price standpoint. Back in the days when a PASSPORT was $179.99 and the V1 was $399.99 I could see it clearly. But now a red X50 is $299.99 and the blue one that everyone gets is $339.99 - for that kind of difference I doubt anyone is going to really make that a point.

and don't forget about the visor clip which will cost you another $4.00 plus
S/H(UPS Ground - $4.50; UPS Second Day Air - $17.00; UPS Next Day Air - $28.00). I could get a visor clip that should come standard for $32.00 if I want it next day air.

Yeah, I think Sethy pretty much nailed it. I put 50,000 miles on my car in under two years (read: lots of highway driving) so I'm going to side with better range at the cost of more falses. That's not going to be the case with everybody else.

Jesus said let their be lighted arrows and allow the masses to go with the flow and avoid the PO-PO.

http://img65.exs.cx/img65/722/jesusa9dx.jpg

On the first day God said "let there be arrows"

On the second day God said "let there be a rear antenna"

On the third day God said "let there be the best laser detection"

On the fourth day God said "let there be a union with K band"

On the fifth day God said "let there be the best tone alerts"

On the sixth day God said "let there be a magnesium case"

Finally on the seventh day "let there be the best POP and instant on protection"

And in seven days God built the most unique detector on the market!

thats very funny.......... i wonder what mike thinks of that!!

its funny that other manufacturers are just people factory workers.........
making detectors...........

mike on the other hand is on his website explaining how the stuff works and the do's and dont.............. you can go to any radar detector manufacturers site and you will see mikes is THE BEST!!

no other site gives you that infomation!!

mike is the radar expert!!

Wow who cares! If any other detector had a rear antenna it would be up to par with the V1! Same direction radar isnt a big threat. Like most people think. I havent been hit nor have my many friends. I read alot of car forums same thing goes there. No one posts about getting hit with radar from the rear and getting pulled over.

I think all detectors are fairly equal. You get what you pay for. I dont treat anyone different. If you get a pni or uniden I dont care! We all have one common goal one upping police radar.

The arrows are the ONLY reason why the V1 is so over rated. Now before people start to bash my posts again please read what I have to say first.

Frist of all the V1 is a great detector I think most of us can agree with this but keep in mind that the world is not the same anymore as it was back in the year 1992 when the very first V1 came out. Back then it was the very best out there and even someone like me will admit that but we are now in the year 2005 and the fact is there are others out there that are every bit as good and yes I feel that some of the others are not only better at some things but they are also cheaper.

The V1 costs $400 brand new and both the RX65 and 8500X50 are much cheaper then that.

Lets not forget that the V1 is still and always has been false happy and I feel for a detector costing $400 it should not false as much as it does. Sure it does have great detector range and yes it is better at decting some radar Vs both the Rx65 and X50 but keep in mind that both the Rx65 and X50 also do a better job at some kinds of radar so I think the same can be said about all 3 detectors. All 3 detectors have there weakness and this is something that I think we all can again agree on.

My only real issue with the V1 is the fact that I here some of you bashing both the Rx65 and X50 based ONLY on the fact that unlike the V1 thoes others don't have arrows. I will even admit that there have been times when having the arrows may have been a help to me but in the end it comes down to what detector you like the best. If people feel they must have arrows? then yes indeed the V1 is the right one for you but for thoes of us who feel that range is the most importent feature of any detector out then I feel that both the Rx65 and X50 are better.
