i was in best buy today looking at car alarms when i saw some guy looking at the x50, his went into "service required", and was gonna buy another...go figure. anyways i was tlaking to him and he asked if the Valentine really showed the direction of the radar source and i said yes and showed him my unit with the arrows, when all the sudden, the best buy sales men said "no, the valentine shows the direction YOU are going, not the radar source..its only a compass"! i was shocked! i cleared up everything with the customer and said no, it really does show where the radar is coming from after showing him my unit. The best buy guy looked pissed and walked off. are they mis-informed or just on commission with escort to sell as many units as they can however they can?

yes, i know it happens all the time, but i think it sucks that the people who are HEAD of a department, know jack about what they're selling...the consumers get screwed with false information.

Uh, they could be both!
That story is both disturbing and hilarious. But, you can't have great prices AND great service. Americans clearly want low prices (Walmart), and then are surprised when they get crap for customer service. With the V1, you pay a premium price, but you get a premium product with excellent customer service.
Of course, that's just my opinion. I could be wrong. 8)

dude, you need to do some serious research first. the arrows DO show you in which direction you are going. how can you not know that?

haha, just kidding. had you going at first though, didnt i?

Of course if you mount it in the back window..
east will be west and north will be south..LOL
These big box stores are all the same. They refuse to pay for experienced help. And your going to suffer for it.
.
Your lucky if they can even tell you where the radar detectors are in thier own store.
Best to do all your own research on the web and than just go and buy the one you want where you want.

You should have told him if he is going to get an X 50 to get it from Roy. Best Buy has high prices on their X50s and a very short return period. If you told him about Roy the salesman would really be PO'd LOL!

Best Buy sales people have no idea what they are talking about I have heard some of these people claim that cobra detectors are the best and can't be beat. After that I will never listen to anything they say.

One would think. Not a lot of thought was being processed before saying arrows are a compass on the V1.

Ever try to buy a TV from those stores? Whatever size you say you want, they instantly try to 'upgrade' you to the next size. You tell them you want a 32", they start to walk you over to the 37's. Or you say you want a 17" monitor for your PC, they show you the 19's. They are so predictable. I always start off telling them I want something "less" than I do, then allow them to think they upgraded me. I tell they they'll really have to give me a good deal to get me into that upgraded model. But I always know what I want to pay before even walking into the store because I researched it on the Net what the "right" price should be...

Good point.
They also try to sell you on the ESP plan so you can spend more money on something you will not even use. What a joke if you ask me.
No they are just miss informed!!
Typically they never know jack!!
I guess I was lucky yesterday then. I talked to an employee at best buy because I needed a phone line to my V1 and he asked me what kind of detector I had, and if I bought one from them. I said no I have a Valentine One and he just nodded and said:
Thats the best detector on the market right now, its a little more pricy than the Escort, but its worth it.
He didnt say anything about the Cobra or the arrows pointing the direction of the car or the rotation of the Earth. Looks like Best buy hit JackPot on this guy :P

Well its obvious this guy doesnt know much of anything either, well he is not very quick anyways:
Which could be why he said what he did, about it being the best and all... because as we have stated many times over on here (well the non-drones), no detector is the best, they are only they best under certain circumstances, and each occupies its own certain niche for consumers. Ask him how great the V1 is in places where they are illegal... or is that something one would want a STi for.

True, but you have something called best overall product, and normal people call that the best product because its better then the others in more areas. Im not claiming that the V1 is the better product, but most people dont buy all the detectors because they all have some point where they are better then the rest. Most people buy the one that is better in most areas that they want to get covered. This product would usually be called "the best".

sometimes theyre different, once I saw a guy working the car section of best buy, we got to talking about all sorts of things (started when i was looking at amps, and then it went to local street races, cars, alarms, and finally RDs.....I killed a good half hour talking with the guy) anyway, despite having the KILLER employee discount on the X50 (how can you beat $180 on X50 Red) he has a V! but he also said that the X50 was a great unit that performs just as well (minus the arrows). this guy was smart... HE KNEW WHAT HE WAS SELLING :o :o  :o :o (on everything we ended up talking about, from car audio, RD, and the cars that they go into)
but other than that, the only department of best buy I generally trust the sales people in (because yes theyre mostly kids in the store anyways) is the media department (movies, video games, etc.........I always download my music so I never buy CDs) because they might actually know whats going on

Those guys are what I like to call Icemen. You know, "Iceman" from the movie Top Gun? Sometimes there's a guy/gal who is really good at his/her job or just really knows what they are talking about.
The world is full of stupid people, and they tend to stick together. Same goes for the smart ones. They stick together, too. So, you might find a group of Icemen occasionally.
Look for a middle aged/old guy...that looks like they know their way around a hardware store. ...kinda like an older MacGyver.

I do it by legal channels, I PAY FOR MY MUSIC (unllike my 17 year-old brother, Id like to see SWAT on him, face down with an M4 pressed to the back of his head  ), just not in the form of CDs, because sometimes ill like only 1 or 2 songs on an album, why waste 15-20 bucks on a CD when I can spend like 2 bucks on napster, and besides the music I listen isnt carried at any of the major retailers, screw american POP culture, its all about JPOP for me, i think American cops could give less of a damn about a Japanese singer's album sales :)

X2, and they say if you find a better "advertised" price they will give you 10% off of your purchase. That's a load of horse squeeze. My Best But sells a Passport Solo S2 for $340. I found a SoloS2 for $329 in the Sharper Image catalog. BB says that's a catalog price and they won't offer the discount. I rebut saying that Sharper Image has a store here in ATL and offers the same price. They refuse to budge.
Now I have a V1, Best Buy loses a sale, and their manager is now looking for a new job, since he completely pi$$ed off this customer (took up the issue wtih Best Buy corproate office).

I was at "worst Buy" yesterday, and I wandered over to auto electronics because of this thread, and asked what is best, He pointed to the cobra's. I asked why he chose that, and he said price, and not many returns. I asked about the X-50, and he said he would choose a cobra! WTF?
Just my 2-cents to show that these kids that work there are mostly clueless, and it is foolish for people to take any salespersons word, or recomendations for anything.

interesting thing about that I started with an X50 red, which I returned 5 days later for a Blue, but anyways at first I got the red for 305 and I said ok WTF, so I go home and go to escort's home page, I can get factory direct for 300, I print the page, and show it to them... the clerk took it to a manager and just looking at that guys face was priceless, so I do end up walking out of there with my $5.50, not so muck the cash that pissed me off it was the principle of selling over MSRP/ Factory direct price
