Roy,

Thanks for allowing me to be a part of this very informative site.

I just received a Cobra 9400 as a Xmas gift and have been giving it a good workout in someplace I shouldn't. I have read all the specs on it and have gone thorugh your website and message posts on this day. I must say you have provided me with more info than I thought I already knew (being a former Army RADAR tech) and I am very grateful I have found your site.

To the point: I was using my 9400 on I-95 (in a place I shouldn't) when all of a sudden it started talking and the next thing I know, here's a Trooper coming out of a median turn. Well, he ended up getting a vehicle in front of me. I would say the distance was at least a 1/4M(+).

Now my ?Q?: do you know if Cobra is planning (or can they) any upgrades on the 9400 or is this something for TOL (top of the line) models only?

Cobra does not offer any upgrades for their models at all

Three companies do that I know of: Escort for their 8500 model series, Bel for the RX65 and V995, and Valentine for their V1

What is sound like is that the officer was using Instant On. Your only defense with this is to have a radar detector that has a greater capture area (range) and hope that they are shooting someone infront of you as you approach

Thanks for the reply Roy. I'll be putting my pennies together soon to get one of those ESCORT 8500 X50s from you.

Thanks again and have a Happy New Year.

How is the XRS9400 with laser detection?

It picks up pretty good...can't say anything bad about the RD itself. I used it quite often before I got the RX65. Then I put the 9400 in my wife's Max.
