Can we buy from internet to Canada?

Hi,

I've searched the boards but did not find any real answers on the subject:

:?: Can we buy directly from the internet radardetector products without having any problems at the Canada customs, specially in Quebec?

I was looking into having shipped a radar detector and some Veil (R), most probably from RadarBusters. (Is the Veil also illegal to have in Canada?)

Maybe another board member will have experience with this. One of the admins here, SmaartAasSaabr, is in Quebec, I'm not sure if he's ordered from radarbusters though...

Most will not ship to Provinces where detectors are banned.
If they do and Customs intercepts the package you're SOL.
What I do is arrange a nice quiet weekend retreat with the wife
to the nearest US border town. Have the Detector shipped there.
The hotel will hold it for you.
No Duty, No Hassles......

Re Veil......that's a tough call.
The law in Ontario states it is illegal to own or operate a device that warns of or interferes with any speed measuring equipment....I believe Quebec is similar

Technically one could argue that Veil does interfere with the Operation of Laser

I just bought some Veil of Roy's site and it should be arriving in Calgary, Alberta by Friday. I do expect to pay some duty on it though oh well. And I just recieved my V1 today and am so happy about that.

I received Veil in Calgary about a month ago from Roy with absolutely no issue (Roy did an awesome job of shipping). I don't think Customs will have an issue with it in Quebec (it is a provincial law, and customs are federal -- if a federal agency doesn't confiscate something in AB it doesn't make sense they would in QC). But then again, who says the gov't makes sense..

Well, like you say it sure make senses that "federal" customs shouldnt cause any problems but their not always making sense. It'll be sorry if they confiscate everything and lose $$. I hope they only charge regular duty fees also... The idea of shipping it directly to an US hotel is a good one. I'll look into that.
(if someone from quebec could chime here, that would be helpful)

OK well one problem with UPS for example is they might want to charge GST or something. If the thing is sent via USPS or similar you should be fine.

The Highway Safety Code says nothing about LIDAR countermeasures. Radar detectors, jammers are illegal. Veil and Blinders are legal - technically.

So, what your saying is I shouldn't have any problems buying veil products or maybe a blinder m20. As for the detector, they will confiscate it, charge a penalty, or just plain let it go.?...

What I'm looking into is a Rx65 + VEIL. However, if i loose the rx65 to the customs mights as well just order a blinder... :D

It should ship fine... but don't call it a detector call it "an MP3 player" or something obviously.

There is no law here about posession of an RD, only operating a motor vehicle with one, selling one, etc. Driving with it can be problematic. Spectres are bad. There is the possibility that "brand x" will make a Spectre-proof detector this summer, might just turn up on my windshield. I'd hold off on the RX65 for now. I know 411radarlover (also from Montreal) had his detector taken away a while ago, look in the Spectre forum for "Captured by VG2" or something like that... your risk is very low if you operate the unit smart, if it's detectable by the VG2/Spectre units. For example, turn it off when you see police :roll: or when you have strong alerts, or when you're sitting in traffic jams or are in places you can't go more than 15km/h over the limit anyway. BUT - many detectors take a few seconds after power-on to detect properly, maybe 15 seconds... so don't turn it on at 115km/h and floor it to 165 quick it just might not be "warmed up" enough... but that's only a problem if you've got a powerful car...

I've never lost a detector, yet, but it is possible you will at some point in the game. However, even if you buy a top-line detector, and get caught, and buy another top-flight unit you'd still be ahead of the game in most cases considering how much you saved on tickets and insurance, your risk is fairly low.

Yeah, I read the post about the VG2 encounter over the 40. But I would play it safe anyhow: low on the windshield, driver side, just by the a-pillar, hidden wires with a quick remove for those "encounters", turn it off whenever not needed, jacket pocket always ready to receive RD....

I just receive 2 tickets in the past 6 months. And I usually drive between 120-140. I've always relied on my eyes and other drivers reaction for the past 10 years. Put these 2 tickets do hurt and only one more would pay for a good RD and veil.

And yes the debate is here to either wait for a possible Spectre-proof RD and run into the possibility to have another ticket, or just bite the bullet and hope the Rx65 could be "upgradable".

Also, 1 quick question: is VG2 alert sensible to Spectre detectors also?

VG2 is old tech and rarely used today, Spectre's the big threat. If it can be seen by VG2, it can be seen by Spectre. If it can't be seen by VG2 it can be seen by Spectre.

My old Beltronics unit died a few months ago. I bought a cheap Sensoro detector to tide me over until this new "brand X". Considering that now there are only a couple months, I'd wait...

My crusing is usually around 140km/h as well. I actually go anywhere from 120 to 160km/h but it depends of course on the conditions. Let's just say I've been past the markings on the speedos of my Saab Turbos more than once.

The Highway Safety Code stipulates "$500 to $1000" but according to 411 he said $611 and probably $1200 for second infraction. Sounds about right with all the "victim tax" and BS.

By the way, I currently run my detector just above the dash, covered with some black "rags". I cut up an old pair of levi's and have them covering the RD. Pretty ugly!! :lol:

Spectre invisibility will be a hardware fix, not software, so there is no chance the RX65 will be upgradable for spectre stealth.

But no demerit point , that is right.

The fine could up to $1000 if recidive.

Never installed it on the dash whatever hidden one think

the unit is well hidden in a corner our close to pillar.

If they have a signal from their rdd they will strip the car untill

they find it .... be sure of it.. at your expense.

If they have to stop 3 cars in a cluster they had done this :

search the 3 , find the culprit ans say excuse us for the non-guilty.

Some cop are real passionate , so do we.

Follow Roy advice : shut up the unit in doubt.
