This is why red light cameras are set up....not that a red light camera would have prevented this accident. Watch this video clip.

Yeah, in this case we would definitely need some photo radar units.
I've even seen that one before, and I'm shocked every time I see it :D

That guy survived but seriously injured. I read an article about him somewhere.
BTW he was walking the red, so partly his own fault?

"BTW he was walking the red, so partly his own fault?"
No, he was at the crosswalk. Its a law that pedestrians have the right of way at all crosswalks and intersections. Im sure it doesnt really matter figuring he wasnt exactly J-walking in the middle of a street, not at a crosswalk or intersection that he has no fault. For all we know by the camera he could of allready started to proceed walking the street when that light started to change, and by the time he got a little closer to the end it was allready red, see my point? That street does look quite big to cross, could take some time. In my area you have stupid people who will walk right out in front of you hoping to get hit and survive near crosswalks and intersections or small streets so they can sue the **** out of you, its happened.

although these are terrible circumstance there is no justification or proof that a redlight cameras would of prevented any of this.
they are simply used to generate money. ala just pay the fine no points. The NMA is currently fighting this revenue generation, for the sole purpose that there are many people who get tickets everyday who have perfectly understandable stories as to why, to many to discuss.
As long as there is a computer making the judgements you can not get the whole story. And that is the whole reason I have a problem with this type of enforcement.

Not everywhere, I used to live in Las Vegas and under Nevada law pedestrians DO NOT have the right of way in a crosswalk if they are crossing against a red light or do-not-walk sign.

Red light camera's do cut down on red light runners. The bad thing is they also measure speed.

Here in Texas a pedestrian only has the right away when controlled by a traffic sigal. So if doesn't say walk and you do your are in violation and it could cost you your life. Also in my city they right tickets sometimes for jay walking. School kids will get out and just try to cross right in the road.
