AIRPORT AND LASER IN LOUISVILLE WOW

I was driving by the airport today to go to the kentucky state fair and i had like a laser alert every 5-10 seconds that would not stop and went about a mile away from the airport.. Anyone know what is causing this? Anyone live in louisville and have seen this problem? I thought i was actually getting lasered i was so excited with my veil but not laser just airport. Thanks

Couple of things Bel products tend false laser around airports due to the RF from the airport radar.

Also some airports use laser to measure the movement of air particles in order to warn of the presence wind shear.

Go into your Profile (when you log in) and add whatever you want in the signature box. Dont make somthing HUGE but most people put their cars/countermeasures/and some little bit of somthing nice.

That box will appear everytime you make a post, just so you know.

the case of the laser alert could have been a vehicle with adaptive cruise control following you. Maybe it was a coincidence that it was near the airport.

A V-1 would have at least given you a directional guess to where the alert was coming from to help you verify.

I have had a toyota SUV, make my unit alert, right along with the lexus & infinity's do. So Toyota is using laser guided crusie control now too.

i thought it might not be the airport but it did it when i got there and when i left about 10 hours later so it wasnt cruise control but good idea.. It doesnt go off at my local metro airport i was hoping someone lived in louisville on this forum and experienced this...

It's the airport. I've lived in Kentucky most of my life and driven through Louisville countless times....and I experienced that with badly my Bel V995, and a friend of mine experiences that everyday with his Whistler Pro73. I've also talked to people that have Cobras, Escorts and other detectors that experience several laser alerts exactly around the area you're talking about (Airport/Kentucky Fairgrounds). Don't sweat it, I'm sure everyone's RD goes off around there (and yes, that would include any Valentine or STI, etc.), because like you said...it is pretty lethal in that area.....

This hasn't happened to me yet with my 995 and RX65, and I go to the airport a lot to work on my plane. Typically, the K-Band is what falses frequently, but recently I discovered that some vehicles' headlights also caused the Laser Alert to go off.

Spankyaf, I have had that happen numerous times using my Bel passing my local airport.

It could possibly be RVR or other ground visibility measuring equipment. When I was taking flight lessons I could make my V1 go off if I parked in the general direction of the weather equipment near the runway.

I think the weather equipment at airports that detects wind sheers (not sure if spelled right) uses laser and that's what make your detector go crazy with the laser alerts.

The Louisville airport seems to be the worst one I've ever encountered. Probably has to do with it being right there, next to the highway.
