After spending days flipping the same question over and over again, and losing sleep, i've decided that i'm not having another v1.

It took my years to get hold of one and now thats broke its made me think will the same happen again with the next, my bro just said order a new one from ebay but i just dont want the headache of it breaking again.

With my car being written off and my v1 breaking its made me really stressed out...

its really sad that i cant have a v1 and i will certinaly miss mine.. but at the end of the day it losing detection has really put me off, i wouldn't like to be driving and have an alert when passed a gatso, and to be honest its quite hard to put trust back into a detector once its done that.

and from experience reading the forum its not a one off time v1's lose detection they seem to be doing it all the time...

i think with such a high technology device comes problems and there really should be some diagnostic system to tell you when its not detecting.

what detector i'll get next well thats a hard question..

with being in the uk its not possible, but it would be better to buy a new one than to repair and upgrade.

but with the uk detector ban on the horizon it would make sense to buy a hidden detector..

Oh no a Bel anything is much much cheaper in the UK than a Valentine due to the cost of importing one and MikeV's isolationist policies

An RX65 is nice with the Ku and K and all that. But the V1's got the lidar edge. Does your laser still work?

i say go for the STi, it's got good Ka photoradar range according to others who tested against speedtraps

how much DOES a V1 go for in the UK????

I guess Mike V is pretty shallow with his market is its the case that the STi is Cheaper

id recomend any OTHER top 3 unit, theyll get the job done real well, and the STi is real good too

ebay are about anywhere between £200 to 300, if you look on internet websites you'd be paying £500...

the bel arnt much cheaper at around £300 so i may go for a bel or a snooper gps with the radar and then i may get a laser jammer, because no detector can save you everytime from laser..

a company called networxautomotive sell them for that amount, £549 i think.

in the revs magasine test in 1998 it was £549.

buying of ebay is really the cheapest way to have a v1 because they go for bel money which is reasonable and not much more than the us v1 price.

there is a decline is radar useage in the uk, they are going for more fixed non radar, even though its easy to detect by gps.

but there may be a steady rise in radar if the detector ban ever hits the uk, but theres not many rd users in the uk due to false alarms.

  :x :P    8) :D :) :( :o 8) :? :P

after having being slapped upside the head by myself for thinking i can drive without a v1.... so i've decided to have another v1.

although it may be 2 months until i can afford one, as i'm trying to repair 2 things at the same time my wallet and my car

so in this time i hope mike may be able to finaly sort out all the damn bugs which are skulking the v1!

So who's fighting the possible detector ban in the U.K? I would help if I was there.

Well funny you should ask that, a bloke who sells those cheap quintezz radar detectors on carparts direct mark cornwall.

Well he was trying to fight the ban saying that he would sue the government if they banned them, he was telling people in an artical in my local paper that the police have no way of knowing if your using an rd.

I read this and emailed him stating that they can be detected by an rdd, he never replied to my email and since then his crusade has dissapeared but his still selling his quintezz detetors before they do ban them, obviously most who have read that artical and dont know about radar detectors dont have a clue that they can be detected by the spectre.

most of the public are mis-informed, same as most who walk in to radioshack and buy a cheap detector.

You could find a middle man in the us to send your unit to to get it repaired, or buy a new one. As long as you are willing to pay everything Im sure there are some people willing to send it to and from VR.

A guys of lidar member has offered to sort me out :D i sent him a message but he didnt reply so i wasnt going to get another v1, but i saw the new message and he'd offered to do it....... i could get one from ebay but i'd rather give a few dollers to a struggling forum member than to wealthy ebay sellers.

So with him replying i thought i might aswell get another v1..

To be honest it doesnt feel right to drive without a good radar detector.
