so, I have this wall/laser leveler thing... (I cant find my laser pointer)

I was trying to see if the laser would go through my cars tint (20%) and my windshield (0%/stock tint)

1st, when I was standing outside of my car, I shot the laser point towards the inside, what i noticed was, the laser just reflected back at me and didnt even go into my car

I shot the laser from the inside of my car outwards and noticed the laser outside but was VERY DIM.

I shot the laser through my windshield and noticed it was dim compared to just shootint it from outside the car.

So, what ive noticed is, even my front windshield will make my detector worse :(

and in terms of rear laser.. FORGET about it.

I gotta think of a way to make a box or something and place the radar outside of my car :idea:

to make it water proof would kill the range too.......besides eventhough laser is dead youre still getting pretty good RADAR, so dont worry too much, mount the RD low for front laser, and forget rear laser, it pointles even on cars with NO TINT

and since there is no tint on your windshield, it should still be good on Laser............remenmvber youre dealing with a VISIBLE laser, police use higher powered 904nm IR Laser, which is also invisible to the human eye

find a remote control that will set off laser on your detector.... then see how well it works though the tint at setting off the detector; it may not be strong enough to go through, but at least it is using infared and not visable laser.

x2 I try it on mine too and I have to:
A) point it just right
and
B) Wiggle it around to simulate "Pulses"

If you have a digital camera or camcorder with an infrared (nightshot) mode, use that and a remote control to determine how much, or little, IR loss you get through your windshield and windows. It should be easy to tell by looking at the remote's output through the camera, both directly and through the glass.

on my v1 the remote works at angles.

best to test is to mount below the tint band and stand infront of the car, keep your finger on the remote so you get a constant stream on infra red at the detector, point it from different angles and at the same time walk away from the car to see how far it will detect.

now mount the detector behind the tint band and repeat tests, you will notice a loss in range if the tint is affecting the light from passing through.

if theres no loss in range then you still need to find a false alert at your local walmart, park up on the car park mount the v1 below the tint band and drive towards the false ( the door sensors) and see where it first starts to detect them....

now try the test again with the v1 mounted behind the tint band, a loss in detection rage will accur if the tint band affects radar detection...

I can make a plastic case and seal it with waterproof silicone (kitchen and bath II) then run the Concealed Display into the interior of my car.

Anyone think of doing this?

There are commercially made exterior mounting systems already designed for the V-1. (why I do not know, you lose directional ability)
