Dear Againstme!,

Here is my two cents worth. As you may or may not remeber I owned the V1 for 30 days before and returned it. I am reordering it now because I miss the arrows. While, most will agree the arrows are not a need and more a want they help (for me) keep my eyes more on the road then off the road looking for where the CHP is hiding. Anyways, here is a little tidbit to help make your decision easier. Take a coin and choose either heads for V1 or for the X50 and tails for the other and flip it and see which one lands. If heads is for V1 and that is what it lands then don't go by what the outcome is but rather how you would feel about keeping the V1. And vice versa for the X50. Sounds dumb I know but it has helped me in all of my tough decisons. I miss the arrows too much and feel lost without them. They have a strong way of growing on you without really realizing it until its gone. So good luck with your decision :D

Sincerely,

Ace_Racer

i think you made a good decision, you'll find that it's got good performance, easy to read digital display and it's not too expensive

I just love how this V1 update stuff and the loss of whatever, is causing this bunch of people to migrate to the X50...it just amuses me beyond all reasonable belief

the Ka range is abysmal. like staton said, every Ka is like an instant on experience. are the arrows really that missable of a feature?

havent tried it personally (Going from arrows to no arrows), but I dont think so, its all in your head

The analogy I like to use is this.... Needing mommy to hold your hand to cross the street........ think of the arrows as mommy, and then like me I can use my X50 and determine which direction the LEO is in relation to me WITHOUT the stupid arrows, so thus people like me are self sufficient and no longer need mommy to walk us across the street

we shall see. im still debating if i wanna shell out the money for an x50 just to find out that the .854 is a very good stable version.

well if you find out that the new V1 version is good within the 30 day return period, then by all means do it.....but personally id spend money on the sure bet (X50), im not a gambling type of guy so I wouldnt take a chance on virtually anything, whether its playing poker or hopoing the V1 gets better... but thats just me

me either. i want a sure bet also. i know the x50 is a great detector, but isnt the x50 in and of itself a gamble? with the quality control issues?

again Roy will take care of you, you WILL get a good X50 if he has anything to say about it, just give it back to him , youll get a new X50, and he'll take care of Escort and all that end of the deal

yes i know. i buy lots of stuff from roy...i know roy will take care of me, but im just saying...the x50 is in fact a gamble in and of itself, not matter if you have someone to take care of you...youll still be out of a detector and have problems.

true enough, but really if you back up and look at it, you seem to be denying yourself at every turn, man.....do what you think is right, and you should support your decision, and as will I

the way its going right now, id say you have more or less an attachment to that V1, so id keep it and hold out for a stable software version to be released

not sure its an attachement as it is not wanting to give up a shotty Ka detector for a detector with shotty qualtiy. know what i mean?

Yeah I understand totally, but weve been going for a while now and youre still see-sawing in the middle, I mean im not telling you to hurry or anything like that, i mean its your money and all that, but seriously dude its one gamble or another.....weigh the possibilities of getting a bad X50 vs a good one, and then the possibility that VR will release a good steady version sometime soon

really the QC isnt that big an issue once you realize that this is just a small group of people amongst MANY that have X50 throughout the world.....i know plenty of people with X50s and love um......the fact is, there will always be ranting about bad things but the good things go without saying, its more or less human nature to be fixated on the negatives instead of the positves.......so bear that in mind, sure there are a bunch bit**in about performance, and all that, but you arent them and dont realize what theyre doing as opposed to you, so on and so forth, so really you have no idea how they treat the broken X50s

I'll throw in my $0.02 for ya....

I'm in the process right now of trying out an X50. I've been a V1 user for 3 years, and it's a great unit for sure. Has never let me down and I love how the arrows point to the source. The X50 plugged right into my V1 hardwire.

Why? Well, the falses really...I spend 95% of my time in the DFW Metromess and rarely go cross country. I'm hoping that the X50's better filtering combined with excellent performance will strike a more tolerable balance for me in my daily driving activities.

I love the look and feel of the X50. The blue goes perfect with my GTI's blue gauges. I have it programmed for no X or POP...and the little scanning dot is way cool. It falses, but not nearly like the V1. I have to pay attention to it though, as there's nothing to catch my eye if the stereo is jammin.

The arrows...yep, I'm having some trouble with that. When the X50 goes off with a strong alert, my first thought is "where is it?". I have to look for the source and I usually find it quickly...but even when the V1 points ahead I still have to look for it...I just "know" it's ahead....not so with the X50...it could be anywhere....but ya know, IRL I'd say 90% of the time it's ahead....and I've never received a ticket from rear radar. Not saying it can't happen though, just odds are against it. It's also nice to see the arrows go middle, then rear...when you pass by a source you couldn't see. Those arrows are big and red...when they alert, they catch my eye! Even in the Vette, top off, stereo blasting and Borlas screaming...I see those arrows light up.

So, there's more to the arrows than just any psychological addiction. They're simply more information...that's it. So, can I live without them? Don't know yet and that's why I made sure I had a 30 day grace period so I can try out the X50 that I now OWN...(sorry, last time) I'm liking the X50 so far, and considering the more quiet nature, coolness factor, and my desire to change things up a bit every few years, I very well may stick with the X50.
