Although I kinda hate to admit it, I hardly ever look at my speedometer anymore. I have a top 3 detector, and I am always aware of the conditions around me. Usually I just go with the flow of traffic, or a little faster. Does anyone else hardly ever look at their speedo??? just a curiosity

I always look at my speedometer. To me, it is kind of silly not too. I went looking for speed traps last night and was hit by instant on K band. If I was speeding there, no RD in the world would have saved me. Actually got that on video, though it isn't very good.
One day maybe you'll get hit by this, get a ticket, and then maybe change your driving styles. I think the only time that you should speed is if there is a light flow of traffic going (so the cop will be shooting radar ahead of you, and you'll pick up on that) and you've got a laser jammer.
But yea, I recommend you keep that speed in check to avoid those pesky instant-on tickets!

I did not know what to expect when opening this title up. Luckily, it was not what I thought it could be about.

Living in the uk its extremely hard not to look at your speedo, with the amount of camera vans and gatsos.
It extremely hard to drive and not look at the speedo.

I usually do the same, just go a little faster than traffic. After I got my ticket last week or so I am more careful.
you know if there would be a proven working radar jammer out there (with good costumer support not like scorpion) I wouldn't bother checking my speedo and it would totally end the pointless "which rd is the best" debate. one can only wish...

I usually take a glance at my speedo. If your next car is a Corvette or a few select GM cars you will always be looking at your speed(Heads up display) Right in your line of sight...you can shut it off though

I don't really say "oh I'll go look at the speedo". But on my cars the speedo is so large and well placed that you pretty much can see it while driving. In any case I can tell pretty accurately how fast I am going by the surroundings.

No driver can prove they dont speed, unless they are running on rails.
speedometers arnt accurate and are normaly out 10% or more either way, you may find that modern electronic ones which dont use cable may be even more inaccurate!
tyre pressures, and wheel and tyre sizes also causes speedometer inaccuraces, put bigger wheels on a car and increase the wheel rotation and you will be traveling faster then your speedo says!
and if you cars already over reading + by 10% then you will add to this, so your speedo may read 30 but you may be doing 35mph or more!
so all of this talk that doing 35 in a 30 zone will kill people, its all bull because you may be doing that speed when your clock says 30!
theses speed campaigners have no idea that speedometers are inaccurate and they will never be accurate so long as we have flexable rubber inbetween the wheels and the road!

My primary vehicle for a number of years was a Wrangler with 33" tires, my speedo was so out of whack, I didn't bother looking at it. The first day I had them installed, I had a friend drive next to me and yell out speeds, so I could get an idea. Haven't really looked at the speedo since then, even after the Jeep was retired to the trails. I do the same as what was said above, I move at the speed of traffic, or a little faster... rarely speed alone. One thing for sure, I do notice the speedo when I get a hit on the Sti, to make sure I'm down shifting/braking to the PSL.

Question are we supposed to be driving and looking down the road or looking down at the speedometer?
I have never gotten a speeding ticket where my intention was to speed. Last one i got was at 5 in the morning with no one around (except mr small town ticket revenue officer) 44 in a 30.
Of course in the one mile stretch of this street there are 4 yes 4 speed changes. 45 to 35 to 25 to 30
EtA didnt make sense first time

Don't let post count fool you ;) Some of those that have very few posts can be very knowledgeable. It is not often seen, but sometimes true, especially if they've been reading a lot, or they have come from another forum.

You can if you stick the LCD into the projector housing...

I think I have to take my windshield out to get access into the projector box. Also the readout would be backwards unless I could fiqure out a way to reflect it. Reflecting the readout would dim it significantly.
I've got a rock chip in my windsheild if I get a significant crack and need to replace it I'll look at this mod more carefully.

I don't think so, as I recall, the HUD system reflects it itself. I may be wrong though, and I'm sure you can remove it without taking out the windshield.

I'll post this question on the corvette forum.
This may be a mute point as my girlfriend pointed out last night I wouldn't be able to adjust the volume or plug in the earphone jack.
I could rig a remote on/off and perhaps install a volume adjust for the external speaker but I'm not sure how to rig an earphone jack to the supplmental speaker.
of course, I have to hardwire her V1 first like I promised her I would a year ago.

MY SUGGESTION:
Take the display off of the box, put the box wherever you want, extend some wires on the display, and run it into the dash right by the HUD projector and that way the image should reflect onto the windshield like the HUD does.....................BUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! daytime WILL SUCK

Same thing. I even catch myself going slower by 5 to 10 miles an hour every once in a while because I dont "feel" safe given the road/conditions. I know, weird eh?

Actually that brings up an interesting idea. I could rig a duplicate display for the HUD. Or for that matter get an extra SR7 display use a splitter and mount that one in the projection box. I wonder if that would work.

If you don't "feel safe" there is probably a reason for that... safety isn't measured in mph.
