Right after I got my V1 I gave my Cobra to my gf, and explained how it worked and such. She said she understood, and then I got a call a day or so later, telling me that it didnt work(I know its a cobra just stick with me for a bit). She explained that an ambulance came flying down the road with its lights on and the thing didnt make a noise, I told her again that it only detects POLICE radar, not all emergency vehicles. She said she understood and we hung up. I got another call later that day with her saying that she went by a cop and nothing happened, I explained that it wasnt a cop detector it is a radar detector, if the cop is running his radar it will beep, "oh ok" end of that conversation. She called me back a little while later saying that it is alwaise beeping x band and there is no cop around, I told her about x band and how it isnt used in our area, again "oh ok I get it." end of that conversation. Anyone have these type of problems with their GF and Rd's?

Well in my opinion, your certainly not helping your girl out by leaving 'X-Band' turned on then are you. Obviously she has little knowledge of how RDs work, and there YOU are making it even more confusing for her, probably slamming on her brakes every time she drives 10 feet and gets another 'X-Band' alert.
Nice bloke you are! Obviously got herself a real 'winner'. ;-p haha

speaking of women and rd today i was walking out to my car and saw this amazing looking girl :D . she was parked about 2-3 cars from me and as i walked passed her car (gt mustang) i noticed she had a x50 mounted by the rvm, i never thought i'd say this but, it was such a turn on :lol: !

Guys, remember - we were just liek them at one time.
You didn't just wake up and know all you know now about radar detectors. Yeah its great making fun of them and picking on them. But common now - I guaranntee you if you walked up to a cobra owner - with results in your hands of the latest UNBIASED testing - they would be selling their POS before they got back in their car.
its a great story and my g/f is just starting to catch on. She just calls it "the beeper", and won't let her drive with it alone yet because I don't think she FULLY understands how it works, but she's getting there. Mainly from herself asking questions - why is it this - why isn't it now? This is a great hobby and fun that you can't push on somebody - if they want to learn they will. And his g/f is now.
Now christmas is commin in 3 months, get her a real fricken detector!!

some of my friends are so bad, they think my AIR FRESHENER is an RD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (Its one of those imported CS-X3 refillable cartridge types so I can see it, but its just ignorant)
My ex, back when I was in Highschool (She was 1 year older than me so she had a DL while I didnt!!!!!!!, no such thing as a surprise because she HAD to drive), had a 7500 (WAYYYYYYYYYYY before I got the X50, this was sophmore HS I got the RD Freshman College) I thought it was pretty cool............. so she knew more than me :cry: :cry: :cry: :cry: :cry: :cry: :cry:

My gf has no problems understanding the RD. Sometimes I have to tell her what is going on, but it is a one time deal. She can figure a lot out by herself. She knows the police in her area shoot Ka ;)

You have to remember that the majority of people (not just girls) are very ignorant about how radar and detectors work.
If I were to give my girlfriend a detector, I would definitely shut off X band. It just adds to confusion. Then I would leave the display on basic and say if you see K band, slow down. If you see KA band, DEFINITELY slow down!
Your cobra didn't have the strobe detection system? It should have alerted the ambulance.

... and look like... and I'm talking about the area where I live in... but this factor works GREAT in my favor, nobody has any idea about RDs as they are solely part of the American society AND pretty much everybody in my area hates America so no interest in learning about RDs, how they look and work... long live the Stupidity :lol:

when i got my last large :evil: ticket :evil: speeding to her place of all things, i said i'm getting another rd (Bel Sti).
because the use of rd's is a no-no in my area, whenever we'er in the car or on the motorcycle together she's like,
"gee, be carful.....i don't want to get done with that thing on you, what will the police think of me"
i laugh and say,
"don't worry babe, if i get pulled over again doin' stupid s***, that's the last of my problems"
