If you have a GungHo Trooper story post it here. We might all learn a thing or two about how they think and operate. I'll share mine first.

About 9 months ago I was going up to Omaha to see my Eldest son, his wife, and my new grand-daughter. My parents were with us and I was driving a red Navigator. I dunno where you're from but in my neck of the woods red Navigators are very common in Texas, OK, Kansas and the likes.

I was going north on interstate 135 between Newton and McPherson. The posted speed is 70 mph. I was cruising about 85 mph. The road was weather perfect and the traffic was very light. Of course in Kansas you can see for miles.

As I approached an overpass my RX55 went BOZO...full tilt alert on Ka band for about 1 second. I hit the brakes but it was too late. The Kansas trooper was on top of me in the oncoming south bound lane. I was the first one he pulled the trigger on in probably 3 or 4 miles. So my BEL was no match for his instant on Ka Speed Hassler Special.

However he had one major problem. A recent snowstorm had deposited 2-3 feet of snow in the median. Add to that the fact that snowplows had stacked the snow up as high as 5 feet and he had an impposible barrier to cross.

I had been paying particular attention and knew there was no quick "cross over" for miles. The nearest exit and overpass to jump sides was about 3-4 miles back. I had no doubt he wouldn't even bother. So I hit the resume on the cruise and went right back to 85 mph.

First let me say that on this 400 mile trip I must have seen at least 4 or 5 red Navigators that were identical to the one I was driving. Second the officer lost sight of me almost immediately.

I drove 10 miles at 85 mph and figured he just went on. At mile 11 the RX55 "beeped" once a weak Ka signal. At that point my mother (Ma Barker) suggested I take the next exit. I was like "Mom you gotta be kidding. First off that Trooper is long gone. He hasn't established a visual with me for over 11 miles now. Secondly if...this is a BIG if ...IF he is pursuing me the worst thing I can do is try to ellude him. (Thus I dubbed her Ma Barker to the amusement of all in the SUV).

Honestly at that point I still was 100% confident the trooper I had encountered 11 miles previous was still headed south to the nearest Krispy Kream.

As I drove another 1/4 to 1/2 mile the RX55 beep 3 or 4 times and fell silent. This puzzled me. Ma Barker started in with her "I told you...I told ya to take that exit. That crazy sucker is coming after you." My response was "Ma get a grip. NO WAY" He would have had to drive 130 or 140 miles per hour for 11 to 12 miles to catch me in that distance. Why in the hell would he do that. Why would he REALLY endanger other motorists by travelling that speed to catch a guy that was doing a measly 15 mph over posted. The RX55 then started alerting a constant beep...beep...beep drone.

I looked in my rearview and about 1/2 mile back there he was, lights a flashin'. That crazy bastard must have been driving way way over 100 mph to catch me....the dangerous felon...the ultimate hazard to public safety...a guy driving 85 mph on a divided, controlled access interstate on a beautiful sunshiny day with LIGHT TRAFFIC.

I slowed to 73 and set the cruise. It took another 1/2 mile or so for him to catch up. The GungHo patrolman pulled up beside me and I never acknowledged his presense. He stepped on his brake, hipped behind me and I pulled over.

He informed me that he had clocked me at 84 then at 81 mph. I assume he clocked me at 84 but by the time he locked it in I was down to 81. I have no idea why he would even bother telling me he got me at 84. maybe he wanted me to think he was doing me a favor by writing me up at 81 instead of 84.

I simply shrugged my shoulders and asked "Where did you say you clocked me" He looked a little goofy when he responded "12 or 13 miles back." He added "I had to drive very fast to catch you. You must have never slowed down."

I said "12 miles?! No sir I haven't changed my speed in 2 or 3 hours now. Are you sure it was me? "

"Yes sir....red Navigator" he barked in a montone military voice. I said "Sir...I've seen 2 or 3 red Navigators in the past 100 miles or so on this highway"

He replied "I need your D.L. and insurance verification"

I submitted the D.L. but had no insurance verification because the Navigator had been purchased the day before. Yes yes I had full coverage. Actually the Navigator was "Ma Barker's" .

Anyway he wrote me up for no insurance and NOT speeding. I could not imagine that he would actually write me up for speeding since he lost sight of me for over 11 miles. It wasn't like I was driving a Lime Green Maseradi!

The thing that disturbs me most about this encounter is the idea that "Super Trooper" would endager the public...the same public he has sworn to protect...by driving in excess of 140 mph for 11 miles to stop a motorist for speeding 15 over the posted. That is F--ing nuts.

I guess this forum has a word limit. here's the rest of the story:

Anyway he wrote me up for no insurance and NOT speeding.

I've heard of this kind of thing before.

It even seems like it might be a good technique to avoid a ticket:

A friend of mine got pulled over for speeding. It also happened that he didn't have proof of insurance either: he had just received his renewed policy in the mail and had failed to put the proof in the glove box yet.

He asked the officer to give him a break or something to that effect, and the officer said something like "sorry sir, we're out here to issue tickets today."

When the officer came back, he only wrote him up for no proof of insurance.

So my theory is, if you "give the cop an out" where he can look like he's doing his job by issuing you a ticket for something else, if you're also polite and ask (and also lucky) maybe he'll give you a break on the speeding.

Maybe say you don't have proof of insurance even if you do. In some states the fine is suspended if you go to the courthouse and prove you did indeed have insurance at the time of the citation. In Michigan if you do this you only pay a $25 admin fee...

Or unbuckle your seat belt? It's a gamble, but worth it if you avoid points.

Yep that's what happened with me. I sent proof of insurance and they dropped the ticket. So maybe he was being nice.

I just can't believe he would drive 140 mph for 11 miles....just to be "nice".

The funniest war story happened around 10 years ago

I was a Lieutenant assigned as the West Side District patrol commander and I was patroling a small community.

I was on a rural road and noticed infront of me a old pickup towing a water trailer. The truck was all over the road and the driver was speeding. I followed behind for a couple miles, clocked him about 20 over, activated my lights and pulled the guy over.

As soon as we both come to a stop, he steps out with the biggest smile I had ever seen on a driver that has just been pulled over, the first thing he says "Man, I am glad that it was you that pulled me over" I asked why...

He went on that there was a SOB of an officer that was named Roy, who would give anyone a ticket including his mother. He was known for not giving anyone a break and that this guy was a real AH!

Around this time I pulled out my citation book and started writing and asked that he tell me more about this officer. He went on basically saying that this "Officer Roy" was real jerk and that everyone hated him in those parts, and started telling me his past experiences with the officer, such as getting a DUI about 3 years ago and that he was pulled over 6 months later by this same "Officer Roy" and arrested for driving on a suspended drivers license....

Around this time I was finished with my paperwork and asked the driver this "Do me a favor, read my name tag" and as he did he stopped and said "Oh crap, your this same officer Roy!"

Asked him to sign the citation and told him to have a good day...

Well in some remote sections of Arizona, it is too deep to drill a well, so you get a trailer with a tank to go to a local water pump, stick in some quarters, and fill your tank with water and haul the trailer back to your home....

I was traveling on I 71 South (going to OSU) going about 90mph when all of a sudden a got a full burst of Xband on my V1 v1.7. A trooper traveling north bound got a reading off me with instant on and his light turned on. I immediately took the next exit and pulled in into a gas station where I can oversee I 71. About 3 minutes later I see him FLYING (I would guess he was EASILY going over 100mph) going south bound. I waited about 5 more minutes and got back on on I 71 south bound. About 6 miles down he had a Toyta Camry same year same color as mine pulled over and you could see them arguing. I thought to myself "should I pull over and tell him that it was me he wanted...........NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO".

I am going down the road one day, at maybe 10-15 over, and all of a sudden full alert to the rear on my V1. In my rear view, I saw the officer in the same lane as me, pretty far back but there weren't any vehicles between us. I thought I'd had it. I quickly pulled off to the right into a strip mall, and used the ATM (which I needed to do anyway, but I didn't plan on doing it there). The officer passed and didn't turn in behind me. Pheew, I thought.

Well, when I was done, I pulled out and decided to go back the way I came (at posted speeds now). Well, the officer pulled out of another business up the road (where I guess he had pulled into after he passed me when I pulled off!), and was behind me once again, with his radar on. I was like, oh crap.

At the next road I turned left, and the officer went straight. Pheew, I thought again. Well, I kept watching in my rear view, and although he had initially gone straight, he had cut though a Burger King parking lot at the corner and was behind me once again!

He followed me to the next road, I was in the left turn lane, and the officer went straight. He didn't follow my any further. Never pulled me over.

Now that guy was either messing with me pretty bad, or was doing the best he could to make me think he was gone so he could sneak up and get me!

Ah Ha! I see you've been listening to my mother (Ma Barker). Awesome story. I guess if he caught up with you ...you can always play dumb act like you had no idea he was chasing you.

He obviously lost sight of you for quite a while. In that instance I don't know how a trooper could honestly issue a citation since he can't be sure of his targeted suspect.

Actually I don't remember if I had ever arrested the guy for DUI or driving on a suspended, after 1000 or so tickets everyone's excuse was about the same "honest officer I only had one beer" as they lose their balance and fall to the pavement...

Super Trooper – Sammy Long

When I was a kid growing up in the desert of west Texas, there was a DPS trooper named Sammy Long in my area. Sammy was a real a$$wipe when it came to traffic control. Sammy could be very belligerent and condescending when making a traffic stop and made very few friends with any violators…me included. To put it politely I didn’t particularly care for the guy.

One day during deer season in the late 70’s Sammy made his last stop on long stretch of west Texas highway. He stopped a van for a minor violation. From the story I got Sammy had no idea he was stopping a stolen van. The man behind the wheel was a worthless piece of human debris. As Officer Long approached the car the suspect pulled gun and shot Sammy several times. Sammy ran to the back of his patrol unit desperate trying to flee the assaulting suspect. That worthless piece of sh!t chased officer Long back to his patrol unit and wrestled his service revolver from him. Then he proceeded to empty Sammy's own weapon into him.

As my friend was telling me this story I was sooooooo freekin’ mad. Even though I didn’t like Officer Long he didn’t deserve this. He was simply doing his job. I was so upset I wanted to jump in my vette’ and help go find the SOB that did it. In the desert of west Texas there is no place to go or hide. It’s flat as a pool table and there are no trees.

Then my buddy gave a bit of consoling news. He said while Sammy had this piece of sh!t stopped, a man and his son were about 200 yards up the road at a pull over. The dad and his son were going hunting. Of course they were armed. When the father heard shots, he retrieve his 6 mm bolt action rifle to view the scene. What he saw was an assailant pumping a trooper's back full of hot lead as the troopers bloody body slid from the rear deck lid of the cruiser. This raised the ire of the young father. He chamber a round and shot the assailant stopping his assault on the Texas trooper. The criminal later died in a hospital. The young father was given a medal by the DPS for bravery, as he should have been.

I may try to avoid speeding tickets but I must say I have a deep respect for the men and women that put their lives on the line to protect us. If stopped I try to consider their feelings and not appear to be a threat. I can only imagine what goes through their collective minds every time they make a “routine” traffic stop.

If you listen closely, you can hear Clint Eastwood music in the background followed by Cops music mixed in for effect, "Bad Boys, what you gonna do?" Who cares, lets talk about radar, not some BS Hollywood crap. Sammy Long was belligerent, condescending, and an a$$whipe...sounds like a perfect candidate for a bullet between the eyes. I don't respect a pig that thinks he is any better than us just because he wears an ugly polyester uniform and a piece of metal on his chest. It sounds like Sammy would have been great at Abu Ghraib prison crapping on people and beating them to death while beating his chest like a primitive caveman. Boo Hoo

Well here is another story from the other side..

This happened around 22 years ago when I was a rookie and before we had those fancy radar guns :)

I was sitting on a hill overlooking the intersecting highways of US 60 and SR75 outside of Wickenburg Arizona. I was stop watching vehicles and watching a stop sign at the intersecting highways. There had been several recent serious accidents at this same intersection. Just weeks prior to this, a couple from the UK had failed to stop at the stop sign and drove into the path of a car going 70 plus, three people were killed in that accident.

As I am watching traffic, I notice a subcompact car screaming down the highway and I stop watch it at 80 mph. The car slows down, but never stops at the stop sign.

I take off after the car and about 5 miles catch up and stop the driver.

Now there is a thing sometimes referred to with brother officers as professional courtesy or as some officers call it “MasterBadge”.

Well as I approach the car, the drive his holding a shinny gold badge that says “Chief” from a police department in Upper New York State. I ask the driver for his license, he says “You don’t understand, I am a police chief” I respond, “You don’t understand, I am a deputy sheriff and you just ran my stop sign, drivers license”

He goes on saying that this was totally BS, in his area cops don’t give cops tickets and he was a friend of the Sheriff and was just a total AH! I ask “so you are really a friend of the Sheriff. Acting dumb” and he says “YES!”

I ask to see his badge, he hands it to me. I stick it in my pocket and tell him “Well if you are such good friends, you can go down to his office and get your badge back from him" and I walk back to my car. As I do he runs back to me, “Deputy, I’m sorry, I got to catch a plane!” I tell him, heck you pass the office on your way to the airport, stop in and see the Sheriff, he will have your badge”

I get the badge down to the bosses office, and a short time later the Chief comes in all red faced and asks to see the Sheriff. Sheriff sees him, gives him his badge and a citation that I had written out.

A few weeks later, I get a letter from the Chief apologizing for being a such a jerk and commending me for the way I handled the situation.

Are all V1 worshippers as f-cking stupid as you....or is it just you.

No one ever said Sammy Long was a dirty cop. He never "beat" anyone moron. He did NOT deserve to be shot down in that fashion. However I'm wondering if YOU may not be one of these worthless pieces of sh!t that have NO repsect for the law.

Though I may disagree with arbitrary speed limits and the underhanded taxation from citations I will never condone the murder of a law enforcement officer simply because he was a hard nose. Any one that would condone that action is a worthless piece of ****.

So I ask you Mr. BiGeAsYgUy, do you applaud the murder of State Troopers?

Last but not least this post was created to get people to share their experiences with Gungho Troopers. I have twice now. You have not. Is it because you just got you drivers license last week and have no experience with state police or are you so inarticulate that you simply are incapable of composing your thoughts.

I suspect the later since you don't have enough f-cking brains to repsect the law.

According to your own words, Sammy was described as:

Belligerent was defined by Webster's as:

1 : waging war; specifically : belonging to or recognized as a state at war and protected by and subject to the laws of war
2 : inclined to or exhibiting assertiveness, hostility, or combativeness

An ass is defined as:

2 often vulgar : a stupid, obstinate, or perverse person -- often compounded with a preceding adjective

Condescending is defined as:

1 a : to descend to a less formal or dignified level : UNBEND b : to waive the privileges of rank
2 : to assume an air of superiority

As far as my intelligence, I have already graduated from college with honors and I have a degree.

With regards to my respect for authority, I was in the military for 7 years and I got a honorable discharge after serving a tour in Iraq.

According to your own words and Webster's dictionary, Sammy was hostile, combative, stupid, perverse, and tried to assume an air of superiority. A police officer should not have any of the characteristics that you described in your original statement unless you want anarchy.

I do not applaud the murder of anybody but I understand that for every action is an equal and opposite reaction. If you live by the bullet and are hostile, combative, stupid, perverse, and try to assume an air of superiority, you will get what you have coming to you. Instead, you try to promote him like he was some god that should have been respected. If their is a heaven and hell, God would send a man who acted like Sammy to hell; so don't get pissed at me because your "god" got what he deserved.

By the way, I got my drivers license 17 years ago so I am not a kid.

Just remember, Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely.

THAT my dear over educated particle of human debris is an UTTER and total lack of respect for the law. Regardless of your idiotic theory that human relations follow the laws of Newtonian Kinematics. I refer to your stupid comment about "equal and opposite reactions". I too am educated...PhD. Earth Science.

But I'm also articulate enough to when and where to use profanity. And anyone that would support the idea that a State Trooper deserves to be shot in the head is ....I reiterate...A WORTHLESS PIECE OF ****!

If you are not one of those people then description does not apply. However from what you said in your previous post it appears that you are of that ilk. You do know what ilk is dont'cha? No it's not a large, antlered animal.

Yes, the AH in question didn't deserve what he got, but he did deserve something.

Good? :)

Hehehee...yeah. Reminds me of the Super Trooper my dad told me about when he was a kid. This cop used to set on a main street in a small west Texas town waiting for unsuspecting speeders. One guy the cop nailed was totally innocent. Can't remember the details but the cop got cars confused and ticketed the wrong kid.

This kid got even....real even. The cop was parked on the service station lot one night waiting for a violator of the law to come ripping by. The kid that got screwed the week before slipped up behind "Super Trooper" and under his patrol car. He gently removed the drain plug on the oil pan and slipped back to his car.

About 5 minutes later he came sliding around the corner in his sooped up 55 Chevy Bel Air, smoke billowing and rubber screaming. The cop pursued him for about 2 miles before the engine blew.

The kid had enough gall to pour salt in the wound by driving back by the cop to honk and tease him. But about 200 to 300 yards before he got to where the cop was broken down he had a blow out. His car came to rest within walking distance of Barnie's broken down patrol car. You can imagine the rest from there.

I got nailed for speeding when I was 17. The cop was hiding in a hole in the woods. My brother is a roofer and has tons of roofing nails. I dumped a bunch of nails where the cop hid. Never saw another cop in that spot again.

Yes yes I love it. Oh the story was good too. I meant I love the fact there is a Veliever that can actually articulate himself and not vomit the chant...

I'll have to remember that technique. There is a "hole in the woods" west of here about 7 miles where the maggots lay in wait. They only do it 2 or 3 times a year. I think I'll go buy about 50 pounds of deck screws and gently scatter them there.

Thanks for the tip dude.

From Fox News Online

Welcome to Wisconsin — Now Pay Up
Tuesday, January 18, 2005

A Chicago-area couple began the New Year by racking up an impressive $1,400 in speeding tickets.

Piotr Pac, 21, of Prospect Heights, Ill., had just gone to sleep after some late-night New Year's Eve partying when his girlfriend called at 4 a.m., the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel reports.

Emilia A. Goralczyk, 18, of neighboring Mount Prospect, Ill., was at a party where she'd just had a fight with a friend.

Being the chivalrous type, Pac offered to come pick her up — 180 miles away in Wisconsin Dells (search), Wis.

"I would do everything for her," he told the newspaper.

But Pac's mission of mercy had to be executed quickly. He had exactly six hours to get to Wisconsin Dells and back — 360 miles round-trip — before he was due for work at Nordstrom Rack at 10 a.m.

So he got onto Interstate 90 and put the pedal of his 2004 Nissan Altima (search) to the metal, and boy did the Wisconsin state police notice.

At 5:59 a.m., Pac was pulled over for doing 100 mph just north of the Illinois state line.

At 6:56 a.m., he was nailed doing 84 mph halfway between Madison and Wisconsin Dells.

At 7:28 a.m., the blue meanies busted Pac-Man for doing 77 mph in Sauk County, just outside Wisconsin Dells.

The Altima was pulled over a fourth time that morning, at 9:08 a.m., just north of Madison — but this time it was Goralczyk who was driving as Pac took a nap.

She proved to be even more of a speed demon than her boyfriend, clocking in at 108 mph.

"I don't even go that fast with the [emergency] lights on, unless it's a real bad emergency," said State Trooper Thomas Licari, who had just been joking with colleagues on the radio about being the next to pull over the Altima when Goralczyk went zipping by.

Total cost of the speeding tickets: $1,393, of which Pac is liable for $902, Goralczyk for $491.

Pac took it in stride. Informed Jan. 12 by the Journal-Sentinel that it was doing a story on his speeding spree, his first reaction was to whoop, "I'm famous!"

He did hope his parents wouldn't find out, especially since his father put the car under his own name after Pac's insurance premiums came to $6,000 per year.

"My father kicked my ass" after an even more recent ticket in Illinois, he said, "so I can't tell him about this stuff in Wisconsin."

Pac maintained that he's safe at any speed, having been driving in his native Poland since — he claims — the mature age of 9.

Nevertheless, he's had to hire lawyers several times to fight his many traffic tickets and license suspensions.

"You have to have an exciting life," he told the newspaper, "because [otherwise] life is boring."

The only story I have to share is when I was a young pup and got my 1st car, '76 Grand Prix B-B, 350-2brl carb, in Durham, NC - 18 at the time. Rolloing on HWY 55 from Durham to Apex (wanting to go to Ft. Bragg to party), the spl is 55 and still is today.

I'm rolling behind one of my HS bro's who has a '72 Mustang Fastback with 351 Clev-4brl. Jacky decides to pull away from me showing off, so I decide I'm gonna hang with him. Jacky got out of sight over a hill and through a stoplight before I knew what was going on (spl35).

Soon as the light changed, I'm strippin' tread trying to catch up. This one particular area in Durham, there was this one NCHP who always ran this route (like 24/7-365). As I clear through all the lights on this stretch and finally get to where it is just open HWY I gun it and check the speed-o and I'm at 105. Very shortly after here come the blue lights. I was about a 1/4m ahead and figured what the hell, better pull over.

So when I stop he runs up behind me, bails out, comes up beside and says "What's your hurry boy?" Being that you all would not know, I'm a black male. So you can imagine my disdain for being referred to as "boy", but hey I'm in NC; and its 1981. So I begin to explain "Well Sir, I just got my car a couple of days ago and as I got into the 55mph zone the throttle locked up on me.

His response: "I don't think it was your throttle, more like your foot. Come on back here to my car." So I did. Then he asked "You got your DL, reg and POI?" ME: "Yes sir". HP: "Bring it with you". So, he lets me sit in the front seat. Then I see the big a$$ radar unit mounted in the middle and he asks, "So how fast were you doing?" Okay, I'm a dumb ass 18yr young black man who's going to tell you how fast I was going? ME: "I don't know sir, I was kinda freaked the way the car took off and never looked at the speed-o". HP: "Uh-huh, well I clocked you at about 85 when I started coming behind you. You went by so fast that I didn't turn my unit on in time. So, consider yourself lucky tonight. If for no other reason that you didn't crash and kill yourself or someone else. Here you go. I see this is your 1st ticket. I'm writing you up for speeding in excess of the posted speed limit. Make sure you pay the ticket or show up in court. I don't want to have to after you. And slow down, 'LEADFOOT'.

ME: "Yes sir, officer." My 1st picket, proud as a HS senior who just found out his car has been impounded on a Friday night.

ENDING: I paid the ticket, $110.00, had an increase in ins, $110.00 per year to 450.00 every 6mos. Oh, what happened to Jackie? I find out the next day, he went around a block to try to get behind me since I was caught at a light.

Good story. You're lucky he didn't get you at 100+. That's wreckless where I'm at and up to his discretion to haul ya in.

When I was in HS, we used to "drag main" street in the small west Texas we lived in. I was with my buddy who had a '72 Datsun Pickup...not something designed to race. We were headed south on the highway out of town and a Chevy Vega passes us. My buddy punched it up to catch the Vega...as if to race. The Vega goosed it and here we went.

Of course it took about mile to get those puddle jumpers up to 100. Just when we did there was a explosion of red and blue lights behind us. My buddy started braking and the Vegas went ahead. As the HP passed (two of them in the unit) the passenger officer waved us to the side of the road. My buddy (Pal) stopped and watched. about 1/4 mile up the road the Vega pulled over. The driver officer approached the Vega while the passenger officer started walking back toward Pal's Datsun. He was HUGE fat. I bet the guy weighed 300 lbs. Of course he was 300 to 400 yards away and while he was walking toward us, Schmitto was cussing him. He was really pissed.

When the overweight HP officer got about half way between us and his patrol unit (probably 200 yards) that crazy assed Pal dumped the clutch on that Datsun doing a 180 and hauled ass. I turned around and all I saw was this big fat cop hoofing it back toward the patrol unit. His beer belly bouncing like a bowl of jello. I was laughing so hard I cryed.

Pal actually got away. It must of taken that lard a$$ all of a full minute to get back to his unit. By that time we back in town taking wild turn and moves ....and into Pal's garage. I guess they didn't get his plates because he never got a ticket.

Today going to work an Ohio State Highway Patrol lasered me in the dark (early morning) with the temperature being 10 degrees F on the Ohio Turnpike. Keep in mind that there is snow on the highways (we had a big snowstorm two days ago) so not many people are going to speed. I was going 58mph. Talk about a money hungry State. Jsut because we have a governor that does not know what he is doing does not mean we have to pay for it. Ohio is in a major financial hurt just in case you did not know.

I have a "Q" :?: for any VA/MD residents on here: Is it a normal affliction that drivers here suffer from in not using turn signals when changing lanes or just turning for that matter? :?: It seems to be the uncourteous thing up here to let someone know your intentions (other than the cops and HP). I can count on one hand and one finger the number of drivers I see on I-95 at any given time with VA and or MD plates that did use their turn signals.

Keep in mind I understand this forum is on Radar Detectors/Speed Traps/GungHo Troopers and such, but maybe we should throw in safety somewhere too.

Oh, do the residents have a monopoly on the left fast lane? Or is their attention span too short to see HIGHBEAMS and FOGLIGHTS in the rearview?

"SLOWER TRAFFIC KEEP RIGHT"

stealthJamal

Well in my area (VA & MD) the traffic is really messed up. There is no fast lane. People go slow as hell in the Left lane and all lanes for that matter. And no one uses there turn signal. No one wants to let you in either. The people that do use the turn signals usually wait for someone to let them in, but hardly anyone lets someone in. I use my turn signal to let people know I'm coming over in there lane and usually they don't want to let me, but I come over anyways because if I don't I will never get over.

I found that the traffic flows better in MD, you are more likely to find faster traffic in the left lane and slow people on the right than you are in VA.

My theory on why people drive so horrible here is:
1. The speed limits are extremely low in some areas.
2. The cops set up speed traps everywhere.
3. People are always driving and doing something else at the same time.
4. This area is always growing rapidly new people from different areas of the country driving style do not mix.
5. It is way too easy to get a Driver's license. You drive down the street make a U-turn come back to DMV and you pass. You don't even have to understand a single word of english to get a driver's license.
6. Cops are only concerned about drunks (which is good) and speeding. In fact they don't care about people driving properly and safely just speeding. The cops don't even set up speed traps here during times of traffic when all the bad drivers are on the roads. Cops are no where to be found during these times, too much work to get people I assume. The speed traps are set up all over the place on the weekend and at other times during low traffic when it is safe to go a little faster if you are a good driver.
7. A lot of people drive slow and they swerve all over in there lane and don't pay attention. They think they are doing the right thing just because they are not going fast or up to the speed limit. It's better for you to pass them then ride beside them while they drive slow and don't pay attention. I've seen too many times a cluster of cars driving slow and not paying attention and one of them screws up and multiple cars are involved in the collision because they all ride next to each other.

This is just my opionion. I'm a part-time courier and I drive all over MD, VA. Been driving for 10+ years and never been in a collision/accident.

That's a good record "J". I've been driving for 25yrs and thought I had seen it all. Even the fast lanes of the German autobahn. Screw around in that fast lane if you want to, or don't acknowledge the highbeams and move over. You just became very close acquaintances of a new BMW, MERC, Farari, Lambor, or even a VW Jetta (if you survived the contact).

I signal my intent and do as you do when the inconsiderate ones don't want to be courteous. It has become as routine as putting on my seatbelt. I don't think about it before doing it and it is automatic. I want the other drivers to know where I am, what I'm doing and which way I'm going to do it. HEADLIGHTS ON ALL THE TIME.

And you are right, I do see it more in VA than in NC or MD. But when I see VA/MD plates in NC, they do the same thing. No signal, hog the fastlane and don't want to move. I have not had a highway accident (THANKS LORD), but inner-city.

Well in some remote sections of Arizona, it is too deep to drill a well, so you get a trailer with a tank to go to a local water pump, stick in some quarters, and fill your tank with water and haul the trailer back to your home....

Its ok roy, I still love you

Speaking of "Super Troopers" I was on my way to Key West with a friend, and my buddy was going about 85-90 MPH down this deserted stretch of highway in Georga when my Cobra XRS lit to full alert. Accross on the opposite side of the highway, a sheriff lit up his lights.

My friend was panicked, he could not afford another ticket, but the last turn around we saw was about 10 miles the opposite way. So what does the sheriff do? he turns around through the median. which was like a water ditch.

After we were pulled over, the cop got out of his car and didnt come to us.. he got out and looked at his cruiser which he brutally damaged the front going through the median.

He came up to our car and asked how fast I thought I was going. My buddy said "A comfortable 85mph sir" The cop looked and him and shot back "Oh really, because I clocked you at 96mph.

Now I know for a fact we weren't going that fast, because at 90 my car starts shaking. when we were going to the highway- the car def. wasn't shaking. It was obvous that his mind was other places, so he let us off with a verbal warning.

I had a Whistler RD back then and don't remember picking up anything. Used to always get hit at FT. Lewis, though. It saved my ass many times driving from El Paso, TX to Ft. Bragg, NC. If there was radar out there it picked it up, to include some military, airports, doors....lol

What used to take me 2days to drive 1877mi one way, this unit allowed me to do it in exactly 24hrs from start to finish.

Sorry I drug this out of the back but I found alot of these pretty darn funny. Anymore stories to add? Dont have any really, only been pulled over a couple of times. 1 ticket for speeding and the other time my "license plate light was out." It was late and I was driving an old beater truck. Cop pulls me over ask for the regular stuff. Proceeds to tell me the light was out, so I got out to check it. It was on. He then said "there must be a short somewhere, you better get that fixed."

Thats about all I have.....well heres another.

Me and some buddies were coming back from Dallas to Fort Worth. My buddy has a 2001 SS 35th anniversary. It gets alot of attention from everyone including cops. This little crappy rice rocket pulled up revving his engine so we go at it. My friends RD goes off so he brakes it and hauls butt down this old road. The cop couldnt make up his mind to whichone he wants to nad. Finally he starts chasing us down this road, we were already way ahead of him. End of the story we lost him, glad I wasnt the one driving.

I got a funny one....

I was coming home from a hockey game with one of my freinds before I had all my radar/laser junk. I was flying down the highway when my bud started saying "cop... cop.. cop cop COP COP COP" I was in my own lala land just not payin a lick of attension and just concentrating on the road- when I noticed the cop and finally relized what my buddy was saying. I slammed the brakes as I had already passed him... well of coarse we got pulled over

As the tropper came up to the car he wanted my license and reg. Of coarse he asked me how fast I was going. I answered

"Officer I really wasnt paying attension to my speed at all" then he responded...
"Oh I believe you, because when most people see cops-- they slow down. You on the other hand sped up. I clocked you at 79, 82, then I stopped clocking you at 86 for your sake."
me: "Thanks?"

Anyways, the cop ended up letting us go with a written warning, but it was pretty darn funny afterwards :)

I dont know if I should post this story or not......... I was driving through Louisiana on I-20 well lets just say I was driving so fast it didnt matter if a cop turn his lights on or not. There was no freaking way he could have caught up with me. I wont say what speed I was going as nobody would believe me. I was driving a friends modified dodge viper. I had my rx 65 RD. There was a trooper in the median I get a instant on hit. my detector lit up like a christmas tree i didnt even slow down one bit. I just sorta laughed at the officer when I drove by him he puts his lights on and makes and attempt to get me I told my friend yeah right. Well about a few seconds go by and he's already well out of sight.

I continuted on driving at the same speed. Well apparently he most have radio ahead for another trooper to follow prusuit because another trooper came onto the freeway. Right behind me with his lights on. I said to my friend can this thing really go and he said just floor it. I did and all i can say is omg god. I think we pulled 4 g's of acceleration. All i can say is those white lines became just one long white line. and those mile markers where coming up fast. well I look back in my rear view mirror and the trooper that just came on and tryed to follow me he was not even in sight I left him in the dust. My friend getting a little nervous now said arent we in a high speed chase. I said you bet I kinda of nervously laugh and said the cops probably arent going to get us. My friend said I think the funs over now. I want this to end. Well i did to. so i devised a plan. I said how about we stay in vicksburg, ms tonight. Because we were rapidly apporaching vicksburg. And I was hoping that nobody had radio down that far. Well we finally go over the mississippi river and pull right into vicksburg stay in a hotel.

We pulled the viper on the backside of the hotel and put it between to trucks and put a car cover over it. And are hotel room was facing the interstate side over the river. We got are bags up the hotel room and grab some cokes. Much later on we hear some sirens going on and we look out the window and no freaking lie we see 5 cops going like crazy down the mississippi river bridge. We knew they were for us they went by are exit. And we got a great nights sleep that night and the next day we woke up and I kept it more honest. And slowed down if the RD went off. I dont know what got into me that day. I guess I turned into a speed demon or something. We continued on the next day to south carolina to visit some of his friends and my realitves. I dont encourage running away from the law if the lights go on you either take the next exit and hide or if you know you been had pull over. AS far as the speed we started out at 120 mph and went up quickly from there. The thing is on these TV shows they always show cops getting people in the high speed chase what they dont show is people actually getting away. Reason being is so people dont get things in there heads thinking they can really get away. I think that day. The power of that modified viper put something into me to speed like crazy and not care what was going on.

I use to have a problem with racing which cops hate because we were very dangerous according to government statistics well anyway on with the story. There have been many nights of highspeed travel back from the street races or just a night of high speed cruising. The best and worst expierences were trying to get away from the street races to get out of spectator tickets(my car ain't fast enough to race a fly)

One night i was passenger in this girl turbocharged cabrio with full suspension upgrade, the thing hauls for a chick car, we were racing some other VWs and my friend in his modified v6 F-body through traffic speeds at one point reaching 120  yes we were stupid. my friend in the f-bird drops back then he gets me on the phone and tells me there is a black crown vic that just passed him and he began to get radar alerts as soon as i tell the girl to slow down i turn around to see a black crown vic on the bumper and flip on the strobes

We were clocked in the triple digits she pulled out the master badge her father gave her, she was friendly and was of course being a girl pulled the skirt a little high make sure she was emphasizing her assets and the cop was just really angry was rude and yelling at us. He said he didn't give a rats butt about the badge and wouldn't let her explain where her father worked. Well anyway the girl started crying and trying to work every trick the guy was still an a-hole. So she took the ticket at 106mph i believe and we went home. We talked with her father and he got mad once she told him that the officer made her cry due to his rudeness and such, The father than immediately took a closer look at the ticket and it turns out to be one of the officers he was commanding officer of. A week later the ticket was thrown out and she got a written apology letter from the officer. Daddy's girl gets everything she wants and father never lets her cry. Her father really doesn't know much about her racing fix and it's better off

This is a story i here constantly from my dad's high school best friend. Well he liked to fly by cops and watch and see if they can catch up. He car at the time was a '67 GTO and he would usually fly by the cops at 100. One time his game through him a huge curve ball!! He flew by the cop as normal but he did not count on that there would already be a cop moving along at 55 up ahead on the road so obviously the cop pulling out was on the radio so to no surprise the cop already inmotion entered the chase. My dad's friend then punched it further to the next exit luckily close to house. he took the off ramp and slowed down and pulled over on the off ramp and ran home at full boar. Called the cops and reported his car stolen. 45minutes later a Cop shows up at his door and tells him his car was in a high speed chase, he attacked suprised and the cop brought him to the station to pick up his car. And he didn't recieve a ticket.

You write a damn good story, very imaginative... i enjoyed it.

You can outrun the cops, but you can't outrun Motorola.

Anyway, my story of the GungHo Trooper is much more Mundane.

I'm traveling through Boston Heights Ohio. The local cop here is known as "The Boston Strangler." Well as soon as I enter his stretch of Rt 8, My V1 indicates KA band approaching me from the oppoite lane of the divided roadway. I slow down to the legal limit (im the only one on my side) and put it in cruise. I cruise along for a good mile as the KA signal gains in strength. Finally, I see the cop in on the opposite side. To my dismay, he does a U-turn right after I pass and suddenly is behind me!!! Well damn I thought.

There is no way he got me for speed, since I was not going more than 10 over to start with, plus I picked him up at 1-1.5 miles away already. Well he follows behind me and starts to ride my bumper, the whole time hes got my V1 lit up like a christmas tree. I didn't take it down because I knew hed seen it already + I did nothing wrong.

Well after about another mile of him riding my bumper, all of a suden on come the lights and he comes to my window. I say howdy. he says, hi, you know why I stopped you? I say nope...

he says, that the little light thats supposed to light up my rear plate is burned out.... he "lets me off" with a warning. But I had the distinct feeling like he has just been lookin' for any excuse he could find to pull me over. it was strange. Thanks to the V1 letting me know exactly where the copper was, I escaped this encounter with the Boston Strangler unscathed.

That is why if you are not goign to participate in the racing you take a truck. We never raced but went to watch. Cops would bombard the races and even have fire trucks come in and block off the strips with the trucks. A cop blocked the traffic so we hopped the curb and away we went. The cop didnt even try to block us cause that would of allowed the other 40 cars behind him go.

We took turns diriving. It was a six speed manual transmiission. Very fun to shift through those gears. He still has it he painted it a diffrerent color It was straight blue with strips that went across the hood. Last i saw on the speedometer I was going 185 mph when i past mile marker 165 and i was still accelerating. At those speeds you really dont want to look down at the speedometer to much. Other cars come up pretty fast.

Last i saw on the speedometer I was going 185 mph when i past mile marker 165 and i was still accelerating. At those speeds you really dont want to look down at the speedometer to much. Other cars come up pretty fast.

Sounds awsome, I'd love to drive a machine like that once.
Next time i go to Germany I'm gonna have to see if I can rent a nice car and really open it up.

Try to make sure whatever you rent doesn't have a stupid 250 klick limiter, most euroboxes do - and most American/Japanese cars are limited even lower

My suggestion? Steal a Koenigsegg (http://www.koenigsegg.com/) - 388km/h! :D

Lordhamster Boston Stranglers are ruthless. When I lived in Stow (1999 to 2004) they used to run speed traps ALL OF THE TIME. They used K band constant on going 8 northbound and 8 southbound. They also use laser. They are relentless probably as bad as Sheffield Village

I ran from a cop one time. Got caught. It was here in Garland Texas just outside of Dallas. I was driving 65 in a 45 and the officer had to wait for traffic before he could turn around on me and I knew it. So I hit the gas. Though he was far behind me and he was making no head way he knew I was running. I had a police scanner and he called it a chase. My dad used to be an officer for this city and I knew if they call it a chase you are screwed.

Well I slowed up and let the officer catch up after about 4 miles. Let me tell you the officers here don't play around. He came right up to my car and didn't say a word to me. He just opened the door and pulled me out and said didn't you see me behind you. He took me straight to the squad and put me in cuffs. Well after backup arrives they realize who I am and that my dad used to be an officer. He said you were trying to loose me I was like no I just heard on my scanner that you were chasing a Silver Ford Taurus SHO and I looked up and there you were behind me and I pulled over. Anyway they played good cop bad cop on me. They wrote me 3 tickets instead of arresting me.

1st ticket 65 in 40
2nd Fail to ID - didn't have my license on me
3rd Fail to signal lane change

I got lucky. I am not a big speeder now but in this city alone when I was younger I had over 25 tickets no lie. Did deferd on all of them. Never had my license suspended. Once I was pulled over and written for Unsafe speed, passing in a no passing zone and one plate only. I was doing over 110 in a 40.

you would have been better of going for it and try to pull of somewhere with another ford taurus. Walmart parking lot is the best place to get lost in. I have done this numerous times. Even if they call a chase there is still a few minute window before backup comes. but it could depend on where you were at. If i was on the freeway that cop would have never seen me again. Some of the techniques I have use in the past to get away from cops are down right hilarious and work almost to good. I wont tell them as probably Roy wont let me. I will just give a hint Home Depot has the best equipment to get the job done.

It was 5 o clock traffic and I turned down a couple of streets so it was real obvious that I was running. I had to turn down the streets cause there was so much traffic. My Ford Tauras stood out though. It was slick. Dual exhaust, silver, spoiler, rims, z rated low profile tires. It was fast. 143 tops.

Well d*** I thought.

There is no way he got me for speed, since I was not going more than 10 over to start with, plus I picked him up

Boston Heights is pretty bad. The "Boston Strangler" is notorious around there! I uesd to drive thru there (I'm from Warren, was in college at BGSU) on 303, and there were ALWAYS people pulled over. Got in a minor accident at the rte 8 / 303 intersection, and had my 30 seconds in front of the Boston Heights magistrate. While I was there, a younger kid was there for a ticket for TWO OVER on route 8. I was beside myself! I learned then, watch your @$$ near Boston Heights!

Also, I'm new here, and (fortunately or unfortunately) don't have any real stories of my own. Hope to post more on these forums soon.

About Midnight...........Getting on 75 North out of Plano, Texas. I nail my 1982 Mercury Capri with the 302.....This is in 1982 of course.:)

No traffic, 2 lanes north and south with a median. In a matter of seconds Im doing about a 100...yehawwww....I get off at the next exit, about 4 miles maybe. Make my exit go around a couple of turns and end up in a super market parking lot. I am just about to enter........when I hear. DRIVERS LICENSE AND REGISTRATION!!!!!!!!!!!! I turn around and their comes Officer Wilson , ticket book in hand, his cruiser parked behind my car.

I ask him politely, whats the problem officer. He proceeds to tell me how he saw me get on the entrance ramp and how he had to chase after me and how he had already called the Allen, Texas (next town north) police department for assistance in a "High Speed Pursuit". He asked them to set up a roadblock........!!!!!!!!!!!!

First thing I asked him was: "why did you not turn on your lights"? That would have made me slow down at least dont you think? Or maybe even stop?? His answer: I thought you were too far ahead to see my lights..........Whoah!...So my next question is: so how do you know I was speeding if I was that far ahead of you..........His answer: Because I heard your exhaust when you got on the entrance ramp. At this point he is severly aggravated. I look at his name tag and and say: Officer Wilson are you upset with me for some reason? His reply: Yes....you are trying to make a fool out of me. At that point I asked him: Where do I sign.

Yeah Yeah......I was doing a 100.......no lectures please unless you always drive the speed limit:)
At this point in my life I have driven for 40 years. Never had an accident, unless you count the 6 people who rearended me..........4 while I was stopped at red lights.
Secret to my success, driving is a full time job. Never speed in residential areas, yield right of way, use turn signals, understand your rear view mirrors. yada yada etc etc..............

Any way its late and I am rambling and got off the subject.
Best of luck to all.............and enjoy!!!!!!!!!
