Hi all. I have been lurking here for a few months. I have added this site to the "gotta check out during lunch" list. I have kept up on the RD news and products ever since I owned the original Passport. I have been purchasing escort products for quite some time. I am aware of the BIG 3 and do consider them to be all pretty much equal. I own a V1 and my wife uses the 8500 (not x50).
As my subject indicates, I'm looking to get a RD for my wife's dad for father’s day. With RR's current promotion the x65 to my door with the direct wire smart cord is $327. And I can get the x50 and smart cord to my door after trade in for $263. This is a difference if $64. I think he may get use from the voice on the x65 and the Ku would come in handy in the future but the $64 savings is leaning me to the x50. BTW the trade in will either be a escort 4600 or 6400 so I don't think they will be worth much.
What do you think? I welcome your opinions.

If you can get an x50 for that price, go for it. He will love the multithreat display. KU band wont be a threat for the longest time.
The reason I am saying go with the x50 is because of its multithreat display. (can show 4x 2k and 2ka at the same time) vs the rx65's multithreat (1k, 1ka, and 1x at the same time)

Escort/Bel has policies that we cannot compete with them on the trade in program directly on our website, but give me a call or PM me and we can work something out.

Thanks Sethy. I'm not sure he will like the multithreat display though. I think it will be too much info for him, also the display is small IMO.

I'd definatly PM Roy in regards to the trade-in deal. He's a great guy to deal with and he will give you a GREAT deal. I know he has for many others on this board.

I wish I knew about the trade in before I bought my x50 :? . I have an old 7500 sitting in the basement at home. Anyone want it for short cash? I'd also trade for a blinder :D

his dad needs the multithreat its cool but not that cool! but yes the x50 would be a better radar detector to get better than the bel unit :D

Match whatever he does with the correct one, if he likes to listen to music, get the detector with the louder tones (x50 i believe), etc.. etc.. match it that way and you should be good to go, if you hate the old coot, get him an rmr :-p

Based on everythig I've read I would probably get the same one for my dad. I like the V1 but it's not simple enough for someone who isn't really into it. RX65 has Ku which makes it a good investment. I don't think my dad would use Veil, so hypersensitivity to laser wouldn't do him much good anyway.

I think your dad will love it. The programming menu is really simple, and the voice alerts make learning the tones very easy. Hope he enjoys it!

My father is going to be lucky if we can work this father's day out...as a big present he hopefully will get to rent his dream car for the day,and a radar detector from me...That is after i see the SML results

According to Bob's test, the BEL was louder i believe...but all i know is my detector is ;loud enough for my driving style. tunes blasting & windows down
The RX65 is a great detector and i would call it dumbmy proof

One cant go wrong with either one. They are both great detectors
