Again there is no comparison to Quattro, Audi All Wheel Drive.

Lets see the first company really to perfect AWD was Audi in their rally cars? Am I right? I am not surprised at the results then....

I would like to see a subaru legacy versus an a4/a6 quarttro though. Subaru is quite good at AWD from what I driven

you would be right. I would still pick the Quattro Torsen System over any AWD out there. Audi's system is proven on the offroad and on the race tracks.

Quattro is nice, but I dont like 4WD in general, too big, chunky and torque robbing........... but IMO Audi Quattro is over used, I mean they put it on everything, even a little bitty TT........... WHY!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

and as for Audi cars............ you can find me in my Murcielago.......... in a few...... decades........ maybe

Ok, let's see. Audi sets this course up on a snowy slope, then everyone drives up and gets measured. WTF does this prove exactly, besides nothing? Put on 4 BF Goodridges any 4X4 and you'll get the same result me thinks but i'm a motorcycle man, not a tin-toppa'

Wow, that Volvo went pretty far for being so low on the ground...

4x4 and the concept of AWD are 2 different things. In a Suv that has 4x4 it can only go so fast (around 40-55mph) before it ripped it gears out and destroys itself. Audi Quattro (AWD) has a TORSEN (Torqe Senseing) and its working and at a 50/50 power to grip split. The new Audi's are are 40/60 split. Basically the Quattro System will send power to the the wheel's or wheel that needs it go give it grip. I have been up hills using my audi quattro and suv's tried to follow...well they slid down the hill and ran into some cars. Quattro is 1 on the mail selling points to a Audi becuase it is the best in the world and Audi owners tend to not park their Audi's in the garage when it raining, downpoaring or heaving snow arrives. I have also been on the roads with very heavy snow and the suv's cant get traction because all there tires are moving at the same time and they just spin. I just smile and say "Quattro". I could have gotten very specific on the inner working's of Quattro but I have typed enough on this topic and Im goin to drive my Audi Quattro...I miss her.

its almost as if you worship Quattro as a god or something....... oh well, not my problem

My friend's dad has a Subaru Legacy and he was saying the same thing, all the big SUVs around him couldnt break the snow, while him and an Impreza were plowin through the stuff easily......... I do admit that AWD is superior to 4WD in most aspects and all that............. Japan (Specificlly Nissan) has a similar system and it does its job DAMED WELL, its called the ATTESSA-ETS, and it can be found on Skyline GT-Rs

hey audi how do they manage 40/60 distribution. I too like AWD and i'm pretty familiar with the mitsu evo 8 TC. They don't use torsen center diff but instead it's controlled electronically through clutch packs. Basically when braking it acts as a open diff then when full throttle both axles are locked they can also allow a little bit of slip depending on what the conditions are and what mode you're in (tarmac, gravel or snow)

the new Audi Quattro system is 40/60 split to give it a more rear wheel bias. With the Quattro system, when you feel some slippage or just more traction...you step on the gas and you have more traction to the wheels or wheel. Alot of car companies rely on a electronic systems to slow the car down in lost of traction by using braking as the main AWD system. When I sold Audi's and Porsche's, I have tested the Audi Quattro's, Subies, bmw xi (Awd...sucks) and suv's with 4x4 and so called awd systems and not one of those could produce better times or come close or be controlled like the Audi Quattro AWD System.

The Volkswagen group does make arguably the best awd system. Look at the porsche 959. But, you have to admit that the Japanese do make one hell of a good awd system. Look at the Nissan Skyline. Nissan managed to take a regualr underpowered coupe and gave it performance like the porsche around corners. They also made a much more stable and controllable car. Also look at the Misubishi evo and the Subaru sti. Both are world class rally cars and are comparable or better than Audi/VW's systems. In fact, the mitsubishi is considered to be the most advanced WRC car and the subaru is up there with it. Both are also a blast to drive. The mitsu is extremely fast and has the most grip and controll i've ever felt. The scooby is not as fast or gripping but it is still fast, has a ton of grip, and has more feel. The transmission and the boxer set up just blows your mind. The Audi A4, A6, and TT are more expensive and seem to provide less performance but they are much more comfortable, have a better interior, looks much better, and havs sharper steering. You'll also have to consider that an audi will require more money and time to maintain.

When you drive the audi or volkswagen awd system you feel that they were enginered for ease, comfort, and saftey. With volkswagen/audi you get a rock solid feel as if you are planted to the ground. On the scooby or mitsu you get a feeing that there were engineered more for controll and aggressive performance. When you drive them and push them you get a feeling that you are doing some insane and impossible moves while some mysterious force pushes you back into controll. In terms of function, both are good systems, but they provide different experiences. It really depends on the driver. Some really like the agreessive system. On the other hand an agressive system can be annoying, harsh, and can scare people. Some people like a "rolls-royce" felling in their awd system instead of a "holy sh*t what are we doing" feeling.

P.S. Those ugly wings and scoops actually work, unlike other cars. As I recall both the evo and the sti, and quite a number of other cars have toresn diffs and have an unbalanced torque split.

Yeah, I gave the "oh, ****" feeling to a buddy of mine not too long ago in the rain. He believes in the quattro system. VW doesnt have its own AWD system either, they use the TT Haldex AWD system that a clutch system not the TORSEN the the other Audi's since the TT has it engine pointed the wrong to use a TORSEN Quattro AWD system.

Ive never had to pleasure of riding in an AWD :( Mostly RWD. The fun one can have with a RWD in the rain :? Ive seen a couple Audi's around here. Those things take of damn quick

, its called the ATTESSA-ETS,

I thought that was the 4 wheel steering system in some of the 240's and other Nissans.

I test drove an S-line TT the day of my 18th birthday, smooth talking and a nice suit gets the job done. Any way that thing handled like it was on rails, I took a clover leaf at like 60 and there was no tire squeal or anything it was awesome. I pulled up next to a Porsche boxer with an older guy in it, he looked over and just stared. I tried to coax him into racing but he wasn't having none of it. I went with a friend of mine, as he started to get in the back he asked the sales person how to get the the back, the sales guy asked why my friend said so you can sit up front, the sales guy said "Oh, I'm not going." :D :D :D :D . And right before I left he told me to keep it under 120 mph. I got on the freeway and in no time I was doing 80 and pulling, man that was a sweet car.

I thought that was the 4 wheel steering system in some of the 240's and other Nissans. You are thinking of Super HICAS.

Also what really sets audi, subaru, mitsubishi, and other good awd systems apart is the use of electronically controlled active differentials. Good systems will at least have an active diff in the center and will have a good dynamics system to go along with it. Many suvs now have awd systems but they do not match up because they lack the active diff and/or a good dynamics system.

What tires, including size and air pressure, were on each vehicle in that video?

we have an x5 and looks like it did fairly well, idk if that one had the 4.4 or the 3.0 because it makes a huge diference we have the 4.4
