Since we're not going to find out who "Brand X" is for a little while yet I thought it would be fun to find out who you guys think they are. This has no real meaning, I suppose. Just a bit of fun.

They would certainly have the money to lobby against any potential bans, that's for sure.

Can't be. It would already be on the market with all its bugs. Then they would offer a new version in 2006 that fixes all the old bugs but instead gives your credit card information to the cops when they clock you.

The most likely company is my mind has to be Beltronics/Escort because they have the R&D capability and a huge international detector market already. The other companies maybe capable but their international presence and/or marketing strategies would make them less likely. Belscort has a range of products from elite to bargain basement for both the US and International markets. Besides Roy's bread and butter is probably Beltronics/Escort so he definitely would not want to be the one to leak the news and give others like Valentine a heads up warning. Especially if they want to increase their market share by defeating RDD and mimicking or improving features of other detectors without violating any patents.

Any other theories out there?

I think I'm with the Belscort crowd on this one. I think VR could do it but what reason do they really have to? They don't ship to places where radar detectors are illegal. They did implement the Euro mode, which is an interesting move. Belscort does have a proven European market which makes them more likely to want to defeat Spectre. Think about the case of a remote mount like the RX75. How can you sell that to European customers who drive out-of-country to places where they aren't legal? People like that won't buy it unless the detectability is eliminated.

I'm a little concerned that the VG4 might be a problem for this new detector. This tells me that they didn't go the route of eliminating all emissions. Instead it sounds like another frequency changing scheme of like before. Unless, of course, they're just paranoid.

I heard it is RMR.

nah its not the RMR as it is already immune to the VG5, VG6 and Spectre 4,5,6 and all K, Ka, and Laser band Radars.

I just want to know what Radar Roy voted :P

I voted Belscort for a couple reasons. One, Roy sells their products. Two, their products are what the VG2 was designed around. Even though Spectre doesn't, VG2 should already miss the Valentine.

But I tell you one thing, if I am wrong and "Brand X" is made by Valentine, I am soooo jumping on that bandwagon because that's going to be one helluva detector. I already am pretty intrigued by it.

I'm not all that excited about a RD be RDD proof. I guess if you live where RD's are legal if just not that big of a deal. I would much prefer to see other added features that may not exist in the game of cat and moouse. I do understand being RDD proof is a great thing for people who live where RD's are illegal though.

I would be excited about a RD being RDD proof no matter where I live. Everywhere in the US, RDDs have the potential for use to enforce the ban on tractor trailers having RDs. For me, it is a question of privacy and a right to monitor radiofrequencies if I choose to do so. If you do not think that this is important imagine the following scenario.

A well-hidden cop setup to run instant-on radar or either laser has a RDD. He detects a person with a RD is approaching. He targets the vehicle and acquires a speed which is on the borderline for whether or not he will give the person a ticket. In his mind, he says "oh this is a sneaky little scumbag SOB trying to use a RD." He pulls out and issues the ticket for speeding and anything else he can find to cite the person for. In the same situation, a person with an undetectable RD or no RD at all maybe let go.

This is why in places with the Spectre like Texas I immediately cut the power after an alert from or either seeing a highway patrol officer. I do not want to attract any more attention than my sportscar already does and do not want to bias the officer against me in any way. I am sure that other people would agree and probably decided to buy a VG-2 immune detector even though VG-2 use is probably rare now.

I beleive in the right to privacy and the right to monitor RF, but to be honest with you in many states other devices you you have in your car are already being monitored. Such as your cell phone and EZ-Pass, both are used to determine traffic volume and average speeds. Also in your home Federal gov't has the ability to detect if your using a computer inside. Monitor movement in your home with thermal imaging. Do I like any of this? No!

All I really meant was a RDD proof RD is not all that inportant to me where I happen to live at the moment. Maybe down the road this will be something I wish for but I would suspect all of the big RD manufacturers will be able to be RDD imune if and when the dammand gets big enough.

I kid you not, there is an un-occupied house near Midland, MI on M20 where the entire outside is coated in shiny material. This is all hear-say, but the story goes that the guy was crazy and thought that by putting shiny stuff on the outside of his house, the aliens couldn't see him. Again, this is pure rumor, but when you actually see the house, it makes you wonder if the guy really was crazy. I'll try to snap a picture sometime when I'm in the area...

What is Roy Zegers' price? I also understand he tried to sell it to VR but they didnt bite on it. I wonder if VR passed it by because they have something under their hat?

Yeah, who said that they passed on it

Anyway, Roy will be here in two weeks and we are riding out to SML with one of his engineers and a student who is going to write a couple articles that we are going to submit to two magazines (more on that later)

During the trip to Texas we will be testing his modified V1 with our Spectre II/III and see how it performs as far as detection..

I have been in e mail contact with Roy Zegers for about 4 years, since the Spectre became an issue in Canada.
He's a great guy and really knows about radar, RD's and RDD's.
Roy (from Australia) told me (about 2 years ago) that he had approached Bel offering his services to assist them in developing a solution to the Stalcar/Spectre......Bel Declined the offer...
This was back when Bel was trying to tell me that they could "possibly" upgrade my 985 to become Spcetre Proof. He told me very honestly that it is impossible. Bel were full of it. He was right.
Roy has been modifying RD's in Australia for years to combat the Stalcar, plus he manufactures his own detectors for the Oz market......which he can "reprogram" to make them Stealth to the Stalcar as those units dtection capablities change.....but they are NOT cheap
It would be interesting to see if he brings one of his units to SML for testing....wouldn't that be something if his unit came out on top.
I have a great deal of respect for this man.

I'm always a fan of solo engineers doing their thing and out-doing the big companies. It's a high mark to strive for. That's where Mike V came from (except there really were no big companies.) Who knows...maybe Roy will get tired getting brushed off by the big guys and start something major. I have a feeling I know how he could distribute his wares in North America.
