Thats not showing too much, Vipers are so over-rated. Yea they are nice but really unless engine work is done, they such at accelerating. My father has raced our Buick GNX which is a 6-cyl with a crazy turbo, and it smoked the 10cyl viper.

Vipers are faster stock vs. stock than many other cars on the road. Of course a built up gnx is gun be faster.
No matter what car outruns a viper, the viper is still the best car ever.

yeah but 10.5 times cooler vs. 1.5 (more like 1.27) times the price. You do the math, what is it like 7 times more cooler vs. price? Worth it to me.
Go to the eye doctor man. Corvette is so... corvette. Not bad looking but ain't special. Viper is hot. You need glasses and LASIC and an eye patch (cuz pirates are cool).
The name is still Viper. Full name is either Dodge Viper SRT-10 Roadster/Convertible or Dodge Viper SRT-10 Coupe.
SRT is like SVT. It's Chrysler's performance group. Stands for Street and Racing Technology. What's that even matter, it could be named googoogoojoob and still be 99 times better than your mom.

THE TURBO IS STOCK, its a GNX. There were only 200 made in the world. Its one of the rarest cars and goes for around 100 grand on autotrader. There is the buick grand nationals which are 6 cycl with a smaller turbo and then there is the GNX with a more powerful engine. The entire car though is stock.

beauty is in the eyes of the beholder, fact is to me i'd rather look at a horses a$$ all day long than stare at a Viper for an hour, its too curvy and the curves are in all the wrong places, American Automotive engineering just doesnt impress me, theyre all about the muscle underneath, they dont seem to care about the shell that everybody has to look at, like GM they use 1 car and slap 30 different names on it and call it good, be original........ and my eyesight is still a perfect 20/20, I dunno about you

I just watched the video. The viper didn't even get beat by much. That sucked. A different driver or a new viper could be a completely different story. I thought it was gonna be a fast audi, not just a quick one. I'm disappointed.

^ "Fast" is something that you perceive. :) What's fast to, say, a guy like me may not be so fast to another, and for yet someone else, well, it may be outright slow....

If a guy daily-drives a 10 or even 9-second car (both of which *I* would consider "fast"), his perception of what's "fast" might very well be different from ours. A friend of mine finds himself in just such a situation.

Also, there's many different kinds of fast.

There's AWD vehicles like ours, which maby be able to easily out-launch two-wheel-drive vehicles that share the same power-to-weight ratio. Thus, on a 0-40 or even 0-60 MPH sprint, these vehicles are considered "fast." Another example is a musclecar which may be set up for the "stoplight sprint" and is geared to maximize its takeoff.

At the same time, there are very "fast" vehicles that carry scary terminal speeds - but need enough roadway to do so.

There's also cars specifically set up to provide for hair-raising rides around very, very tight Autocross courses.

Fast is a variable definition - that's my very humble take. :)

Real performance is measured on a track..you know the one that has curves. Tests acceleration, cornering, breaking, vehicle integrity, etc.

The new Dodge vipers handle great on a track. I'd rather have a new Viper than a fast turd that can't handle worth a crap.

P.S. I'm not refering to Audis as turds..just crappy cars in general. I like Audis...particularly the Quatros..

One could argue this as well - a track vehicle may be specialized for that specific type of circuit, or a even a specific circuit itself, and especially when taken out of that context, it may not be "faster" than another vehicle.

Don't get me wrong, I understand precisely what you're saying, and I consider myself a true sports-car fan :) - but I hope you can also see what I mean when I say that a Porsche GT3 set up for the Nurburgring may not be any faster (if at all) around a tight AutoX course than a "lesser" sports-car set up precisely for such an event.

"Fast," to me, is conditional.

I respect the blistering short-distance straight-line fury of my friends' old Detroit muscle.

I respect the high top-end of fellow enthusiasts in the upper-crust European road-rockets.

I respect the corner-cutting precision of tuner vehicles and outright sports-cars.

To me, it's all different forms of fast. And it's all good.

The wifey pretty much made me "go 4 doors" on this purchase.

Unfortunately, I couldn't convince her ( or was that trick her? :lol: ) to let me get either an EVO or STi (the STI Limited had not yet been introduced, back when we purchased our vehicles in early '05). One look at their various aggressive body components ( and for as little as my wife knows about cars, she does unfortunately know what a FMIC looks like, and what it implies :wink: :cry: :lol: ), and it was an "I don't think so, honey," for me.

I envy you for both your great ride, as well as admire your financial wisdom and undoubtedly great work ethic - which allowed you to make such a wonderful purchase so early! :)

I'm not an "Audi guy" (although I do like them quite a lot - this is purely speaking of them as my "enthusiast/technical experience" or, rather, lack thereof), so please pardon my ignorance:

Is that launch indicative of electronic "launch control," or was that purely throttle manipulation?

If it's the latter, on a manual tranny vehicle, that's quite impressive!
