I am a previous x50 owner, i recently got in a wreck (totaled my car, wasn't my fault) and the x50 was damged badly...nyways after reading this site and looking over reviews and videos etc..Im currently looking to get a new RDer, and it seems the V1 has the edge in the RD market now of days...am i correct in saying this ? I dont want to start an argument i just want to get some opinions. Any information on this would be helpfull..

i know and i have read alot of it but it seems to weigh more to the V1 side than the x50 .. just kinda was looking for a suggestion on either model? if not its ok i can dig some more :-p

or mabye its just that im wondering if the V1 falses as much as people say? or if it does how much does it effect RD warning it gives?

what about the falses on the V1 and is it worth the extra 100 $ ? :-) thanks for the quick replies !

Try them both out for yourself, and return the one you decide you don't want...

Im an 8500 X50 user. But the thing that the 8500 lacks compared to the V1 is I guess im just one of those guys who would really like to know what direction the threat is coming from, Cool thing about the X50 is the brilliant blue display, looks so awesome, looks sporty not an ugly RD. As far as its performance, I never owned a RD before this so i can not say how good this truly is or the V1. Both cost in similar range, X50 being a little cheaper. I heard V1 falses like nuts thats a downfall. In fact if the V1 wasnt such a falser, I think I would be a v1 guy, Ive heard good things about it and that seems to be the only thing it lacks besides it not looking as sporty as the x50. Overall i think this is what it comes down too. Take a v1 if you like arrows and you can deal with more false alerts and dont care about appearance on a RD as long as it works. Get an X50 if your looking for something that works, something with cool appearance, less falses, but than your giving up directional warning(which personally there is times i am dieng to know where my hidden threat is coming from that i never see and wished i bought a v1). Overall both kinda the same from what i hear and there is no doubt they are up in the top 3.

I own a V1 and I like it very much I been with the V1 since it came out in 1992. I have tried an x50 and I found it to be a good machine but I returned it. This is what it came down to for me. I been with the v1 so long that I have grown to like the features it has. Both the x50 and V1 are good at giving enough warning so either one are good units. It all came down to features and this is where the V1 came in for me. For what I do my preference is the V1 because in my opinion it gives me more information to allow me to make an informed decision about what type of threat I am running into and what action I should take.

Bottom line is both units are great and both excell in some areas that the other may not. You know what the x50 is all about so call VR order a V1, play with it for 30 days and you decide.

Oh, and the other thing that made me originally go with the V1 is that I am self employed and I prefer buying from other self employed people instead of big firms where you are only a number and not a human.

Arrows and antennas aside, the V1 seems to win out on laser detection. After a few encounters of my own I'm really confident with that aspect of it. And that's all I'm gonna say. :D

Not a dis. Put he should know that if he gets hit with laser it over. He needs a laser jammer.

HANDS DOWN V1. Have had them both, the X50 is a great detector, but the build quality, rear antenna, and arrows are WELL worth the extra money. Plus you will never have to buy another detector, you can keep upgrading the V1. NICE CHOICE:) Hopefully i get mine back today;)

I agree with clasen24.
I've had them all. .<!-- detector stab removed --!> . I just sold it and got the V1 back. The arrows are very worth it. I had good range with the X50 but I couldn't tell were the cop was located. I had an X band for about 5 miles on the interstate and he came up from behind to taged a car in front of me. I had to guess the whole time until I saw him. That's the most important reason I switched back.
Another thing is the X50 pop is worthless. I turned it on twice and had a false pop within minutes.
Hope this helps

How much information do you want the detector to tell you? If you want a lot of information, get the V1.. If you are on a tighter budget, get the X50 or RX65.

I'm sure if people would use the search function, we could cut down on the number of similar threads.

you can keep upgrading the V1

Only thign I have against the v1 upgrades is that is about as expensive as buying a new detector from other companys.

Would you rather have a 150.00 detector or spend the 150.00 on an upgraded V1.

sethy

Well, sell your other detector on ebay, lets say an x50. Theres 250. Now the upgraded brand new one will be about 300. 50$ upgrade.

The v1, you can sell and do the same thing- but I still am saying that their "upgrade" really isnt saving much money.

Put he should know that if he gets hit with laser it over.

Not necessarily; with the V1, it's possible to get advanced warning on lidar.

I got two seperate laser alerts when two SUV's ahead of me were each hit with lidar, which gave me enough time to slow down before I was hit with a third lidar shot.

I love my V1!

I was thinking about this the other day. Lets not start another flamewar though

If you own a blinder/jammer, wouldn't the better laser ability of the V1 be a moot point? If they are shooting at your lights, and the jammer goes off, you're going to know either before or at the same time from the jammer as you would from a RD. True, if it's mounted high you might get reflections from a car in front of you. But, with a jammer it seems that the RD's lidar detection becomes almost unnessesary.

Not that more is bad, but it just seems that you could almost turn off laser on the RD with a jammer :?

X band radar will not work while the car is moving. Only K and KA.

That is incorrect. X band CAN BE used either in stationary or mobile mode. I am 100% positive. Just ask Jim who owns the K55 unit (same one the NJ troopers use and have mastered).

I'm not here to start a flame war.

You may be right about lidar detection being unnecessary if you have that anti-laser equipment, the operative word being if.

I don't know because I don't own any anti-laser equipment.

But the reason the V1's top-notch laser detection capability is very important to me is precisely because I don't have any anti-laser stuff. The V1's ability to warn me about lidar being used on other vehicles and smart driving are currently my only defences.

I just haven't bothered to look into anti-laser equipment simply because I haven't run into laser until just these past couple of months. Now that I've encounted lidar being employed by the NJ State Police and the Port Authority Police, I'm thinking about looking into anti-laser equipment.

Very true. It's a big IF. Just a thought though, as they use alot of lidar in MA and NH where I drive, I need a jammer, so lidar detection on my RD isn't the first thing in my mind. K and Ka are my main concerns, especilly instant on.
