Don't get a car :? See if you can buy a decent R1200GS or R1150GS Adventurer :D For around $12K, you'll find something nice and clean with a few miles on the clock. The Beemers can go anywhere and are super cheap to run, plus it will give you many years of reliable service  Plus you don't have to worry about traffic jams too 8)

anything nice and lifted. say a 2000 or so Silverado up on bout 6" and 35"s. or a Jeep Cherokee with the same.

course, the girls in my area, may be diff than up north

LOL. The best car for a 17-year-old is something large, used, and slow.

The best car for picking up chicks depends largely on what kind of chicks you want to pick up.

Want cowgirls? Get a jacked up F-250 4X4 with a "Badass boys drive badass toys" in the window and a gun rack.

Looking for preppy chicks? Try a used Acura Integra with a VTec sticker (that adds about 15 HP!) and a "9-Second Racing" logo on the back window.

Want the cheerleaders? Definitely a Mustang GT convertible. With the top down, they can refill the air in their heads just by turning to the side.

Etcetera.

Nah Fox body Mustangs are probably not the most eye-catching...

IMO there are better ways of picking up women... like, you know, talking to them.

Then again, I drive a Saab :P

If you want want preppy girls go for what preppy girls drive Like a luxury car...Certain subarus draw the best girls but you can't afford them

Do not get a Volvo unless it's a s60 r no girls will look at me in my Volvo until I beat their bf in a race  ...I had great look in my cherokee two door. My mercedes had the best luck with girls

If you can afford the gas a 2001 jeep cherokee can be bought in great condition under $8k. That will leave money left over

1) Car Talk forum?????

2) every chick thats been in my car has loved it.............. key point here is that they were already IN the car

3) as much of a surprise as it may be, chicks love the gadget in the car MINUS the noisy RD

4) Sound system, no big thumpy bass $hit, CLARITY because all girls I know like vocal songs as opposed to most guys I know (I like vocal stuff too)

5) now this only applies to MY type of girls, and they fit into these parameters: Inteligent, visually appealing, and so far its all been white girls in the car (nothing else yet), and around my age (20+-2...... except for that 1 HS freshman during my Sr. year there)

6) (EXTENSION OF 5)........ it can even go so far as to only apply to THOSE GIRLS that were in my car, and not any others

An older caprice wagon w/ some 22"s and a tv.

Must be nice to have $12k to spend on a car when your 17. Get whatever the hell you want. Girls still aren't going to like you even if you have a ferrari.

That's not how it works. Once you are in the Ferrari, in their eyes, you have become more handsome and beautiful. Something to do with how money works in a girl's brain. Then again, you don't want to give the wrong impression(that you're rich) as it may invite all whole different type of girl you can't afford.

BTW, SUVs all the way  (Might wanna have some left over cash for the gas, though ;) ) Lot's of space in the "back seat" esp. the ones that fold flat. ;)

Don't know how many girls are like this, but it seems that all girls want a guy to have some sort of car that can beat another guy's car.

But basically, keep it clean and fresh inside and out. Messy cars are bad.

I hear Jetta's are good for picking up chicks.

dont forget the asian betties... get a civic with a huge spoiler and a turbo with the loudest bov you can find... itll make their panties wet before you even get into em....
and with the vdubs... they like them cause they are chick cars... no offense to any guys here that dig them as there are some exceptions to this statement... get a ducati monster 900 man... the ladies would love to ride on that... and who cares about mn winters... you can take mass transit or ride a bicycle... you just gotta have the hunnies on your balls in the summer :D

Of course, you can forget about snow, or even the slightest bit of water on the road. Oh, and you can forget about $12,000 ;) But during a dry day, you can smoke anything on the road.

SmaartAasSaabr

Nah you can drive an old F car in the snow no problem. Of course if you want to keep it nice you stay away from salt but otherwise it can be very fun

My grandpa ran his 400 / 4bbl / 4-speed Pontiac Firebird in Canadian winters for about 10 years from around '75 to '86... He threw a pair of snow tires on the back. I've heard lots of great stories  Of course partially as a result of that the car is now rather rusty...

not as fun as FR, thats obvious, but the FF will keep you alive better

SmaartAasSaabr

Really depends on the car... a lot of people tell me the old Volvo 240 was a good car for winter driving, and it's a rear driver. Mind you most variations of them are really ugly, though I wouldn't mind having a 262 C (who could make a nice looking Swedish car? The Italians, who else? )

Arashi666

right FRs are good if they have some weight on the drive wheels.......... but FFs are just better because its the principle of it pulling the weight as opposed to pushing it

For the $12,000 you have, I think you can pick up a 94+ Mazda RX7 twin turbo. Pure sportscar.

Get a suburban!
oh those where the days.... 4x4 with the 350 F.I.
My 88 suburban was a silverado, limo tint... and to top it all off... It had a love seat in the back... oh man did the girls love that.... You guys have no idea how much they fall in love with you when they see that love seat in the back... Kinda makes me wanna buy another suburban. Super 40 mufflers and headers.... Badass dual exhaust that ran straight out the back. Only down side was it got about 10 mpg. Oh well.... it was worth it. Especially when we all would go muddin on the weekends. or busting through 4 foot+ snow drifts. That thing could go through just about anything. It's up to you though man, Get what you think will fit you the best.
