View Full Version : What's a false signal?

Ok, we all brag about our bel, escort or v1 being quiet with false signals. But what is a "false Signal?" Is the doors at the local safe way that operate on K band a false? I know it is but how can we blame any of the top 3 for picking up a Kband signal? :?

this is an excellent question and I don't really know the answer. I think it's hard to define. The are so many non-police signals out there. How does a detector differentiate between police K band non-police K band? Is there some characteristic buried within each signal the indicates a non-police signal??
My office is surrounded by businesses including a shopping plaza with many K band door openers. My V1 shows 7 or 8 threats (K and and X band) while I am parked in the parking lot. My new X 50 only shows 1 K band threat when parked in the same spot. It's got me wondering...

Tom,
That is a very good point that I keep thinking about and Happy continuously swears by the multiple threat display on the X50.
I noticed that when I had my X50 the multiple threat display never wanted to show more than one and very rarely two threats.
I would like to see what happens when you put an X50 up against two or three radar guns.
The tunnel vision antenna on the X50 is quite ingenious however I am still wondering if that could miss a crucial sporadic alert in the distance.

Dave, I'll take a few pictures and share them. It's quite a contrast and concerns me a bit. Perhaps the X50 is able to weed out these door openers, perhaps it can't.

A false signal is your radar detector doing its JOB.

I think it may have somthing to do with V1's glitch on when a cop is going by, it may say 2 instead of one. So maybe its picking up 8, but in reality its picking up 4.
As for false alerts mean the radar detector is "doing its job"
Why did they create the big L mode? Thats right, to filter out the falses.

Hi Sethy :D Except for the ghosting problem that the V1 is having with the K band I think the count is pretty accurate as you can park in front of a store with two door openers (one in and one out) and it will read it accurately sometimes extras which would be additional door openers at the other end of the store.

Brent, I really hope that's the case.
The "falsing" issue is one of the major reasons why I really like the V1 - when it's going off, it's not pulling those alerts out of nowhere. It's really picking up signals that may go undetected with the other 2 of the "big 3."
My $.02, anyway, since I don't see how that can all really be "falses."

What's function number 5? Said something about increasing KA signal? Thanks
All it does is make Ka alerts "more urgent" - it doesn't alter the sensitivity, it just changes the way the signal is reported. Instead of starting off at 1 LED, it starts off at 3, or so say most people here.

I told Roy I wasn't going to say this, but it brings up a good point...
If everyone is going to say they want the falses, or that the radar detector is "doing its job"...
Then there shouldnt be anymore complaints about the rx56 and x50 POP.

Browse around a little more, you'll find them :)

I'm guessing the complaint about the POP alerts is that if you get a very weak K or Ka false, it could be interpreted as a POP and the radar will whine REALLY LOUD
On the other hand, a POP on a v1 will show up, but it'll just show up as a little K or Ka blip. If you know what a POP is you'll still be careful when you get one of these.
Is there a reason that our RD can not differenciate between security systems and automatic doors? Are there so many variances on the police bands of radar that our RD's can't diferenciate between the two????????

yeah, unfortunately they're on the same/similar frequencies so the RD will alert to them. just have to get used to it and pay attention to all alerts to know whether or not to ignore them when it goes off.

Automatic door opener is also a radar device just like the speed radar. They often use same manufacturers transceivers so there is practically no difference between the signal of a door opener and a police radar and therefore its hard to detect any difference between the two. It would be cool if manufacturers of automatic door openers would decide to use some pulse code in their radio signal so RDs could in the future recognize such things as false signals. :) But then again in a matter of days MPH and others would do radars with same signature to be undetectable, and the wheel goes on.

The difference is that V1 "falses" X,K,Ka and Laser are legitimate threats.. the POP falses are legitimate BS.
Any more questions?

If you want to call those stabs. I am writing a review on all the laser jammers that we tested yesterday, so i am inside for the next 2 hours. You gotta remmber there is a time zone difference out here, i've been up since 6. I believe we are doing some more testing on the lidatek today...
