If you are driving near another driver who also has a Radar Detector, can that interfere with your own Radar Detection or cause yours to go off?

Yes it's possible some times Ka falses are gotten...Belscorts get POP falses around cobra units

I read in the new V1 manual that falses from crappy radar detectors can either come on K or Ka band. The manual also talks about the flashing "J" feature and it doesn't specify that "J" will only flash on Ka band so maybe it does it for K band as well.

Yes, they could interfere each other. It is similar to put more detectors to the windshield at the same time: you could get alert (as my experience mainly on K rarely on Ku band) from sensitive detectors because of radiation of the oscillator of cheaper/not well insulated ones.

Cobra detectors usually cause a lot of problems.
x50 = POP Cobra = VG-2 or Ka Full strength
Whistler 1743 = VG-2 Cobra = VG-2

According to VR there are four companies that particularly cause POP emissions.

Hundreds of thousands of badly engineered detectors from BEL®, Cobra®, Radio Shack® and Uniden® spew local oscillator harmonics that are very similar in character to the POP burst used by MPH Industries. Ordinary detectors aren’t clever enough to reliably distinguish between them. V1 has never been ordinary"

Typically, the older detectors will set off the newer detectors.
I've been riding with my boyfriend on more then one occasion, and someone with an older detector will set off his V1 (he called it 'leaky'), but I'm not up enough on the technical terms to tell you why. I just know that it happens. ;)

what he fails to say here is that the v1 "spews" lots of micowave radiation that's why the Spectre can pick it up a long way down the road.
Mike, make a detector that isn't "leaky" and then you can brag... :roll:

I thought the V1 did OK against the Spectre relative to some of the others? I mean, everything radiates but some worse than others. Then again, the V1 has TWO sources of LO leakage. That means that a cop coming up behind you with spectre is just as well off as a cop in front of you.
I've never had Ka falses due to a newer Bel or Escort. It's always something like a Cobra or a RadioShack. It would be SOOO nice if detectors didn't leak so that we didn't need all this filtering garbage on Ka band.

I was just about to disagree with you (pulling out the Internet chart) then saw V1 with spectre III at 1860 feet, not so good. The X50 was very impressive however.

It makes a lot of sense too, if you look at the results. In general it did worse than the Spectre II did. Some of the detectors were detected at a lot less range. It even failed to detect the Escort and the PNI, which the older Specre II had no trouble with. Why would an updated piece of hardware do worse? The results in general are inconsistent with the Spectre I and Spectre II results.
So I think the jury is still out on the Spectre III. We should find out very soon though :)

My co-worker has a Cobra 9300, and when I pulled up behind him in a parking lot my detector started going off. Just to be sure, I pulled around him and it stopped. I flipped around and parked facing him and my detector went crazy again.
His detector was not being set off by my Whistler Pro 58.
What crappy craftmanship by Cobra. :cry:

all superhet detectors spew microwave radiation. Mike has just changed the lo frequency so that the Spectra's out there cannot receive it. That's what all the detector companies do. No one has yet to figure out how to truely shield a detector from a RDD if the RDD company really wants to find it bad enough. That's why we have some many new incarnations of the Spectra...

The radioshack voicealert model sets off my RX65 on POP, as does some of the Cobra, RMR units. I've never noticed a Whistler unit set it off.

I have gotten an X false from another detector with my V1. He was coming up from behind moving from land to lane. It was quite strong if we were in the same lane ... it stopped when he moved to the other land and stopped once he went past.

I keep getting a 2/9 strength short detection on either K or Ka in random areas of town....
I'm wondering if these are other drivers with Cobras or Radioshacks.

It's very possible, and it's hard to tell since the Whistler units don't show POP alerts (normally what you'll get from other detectors) as being different from regular K and Ka alerts. Whistler told me that there is a way to disable POP on the Pro-58, but I don't know what it is. That might be something for you to look into though.

It's hard to say, the signal itself is very weak, but i'm not sure how the whistler would show it. My bel goes full alert on POP, but it's easy to tell since it actually says "POP". The whistler support may be able to answer your questions better than myself.
