Hail boys!!!!!
First of all..... I'm new in this amazing forum.
I'm not very confident with radar detectors and all the other "wicked" devices. Sad but true , I'm just a beginner. Well.........
I HAVE A PROBLEM:
My best friend is coming back from "world tour" and the States.... He bought a BLINDER M40 (for him) and unexpectedly a BEL 905 for me + veil + etc. etc.
So, I've spent the last 4 days on the net (night/day!!!!!!!!!) looking for a nice radar detector..... at least a good one for my area (south of Europe -ITALY-)......
THE PROBLEM??? THEY'RE TOO MANY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I just know that........
Well, I'll go with a Beltronics for sure........
(don't get me wrong, I don't want to start any BRANDS-BATTLE like "Lego vs. Mattel" or "apples vs. oranges")
.........and for sure it will be a dash board unit, so I can even use it on my company car (BOSS SCREAMING SOMEWHERE......).
Well, after a "good headache" the candidates are:
-RX65
(need to say anything else???)
-990i
(that I've been told was considered the best unit EVER for Europe and still is available in the States/good price)
-940/945 (??????????????)
-550
(that mainly -I think- is just an "evolution" of the 990i and that is sold only in Europe....
even if I've to go for a kidney donation: HAVE YOU SEEN THE PRICE??????????)
-ELSE??????
You heard these questions billions of times...... But please let me know your opinions or any suggestions.
TO EVERYBODY:
MERCI , DANKE , THANK YOU , MUCHAS GRACIAS, GRAZIE
Welcome on the board!
I think that from your list of preference the 550 should be the best in IT, EU. Yes, shame about the price - but you can find that problem everywhere.
Unfortunately I have no practice with BEL 990i/995, yet. They aren't same as 550.
Anyway I should suppose you to look after Valentine1 first.

Thanx MISTER TT!!!!!
Yeah, Valentine is a great unit...... maybe the best...... I don't know!!!!!!
But I've been told the main problem with the Valentine 1 -being an European citizen- are the upgrades!!!!!
I mean, in this case I have to send it in the states??
Is it true???

I believe the rx65 would suite you well. It has the detection of KU band which is a must in your situation.
I could be wrong, but the most heavy enforcement over there is laser and photoradar correct?

If what Sethy says is correct, then you definatly need to get a Blinder Laser Jammer because a detector can only protect you so much from Laser. Also, if photo radar is big they I don't think the RX 65 is the best from what I had read.

I'd go with a 550.

I have an RX65 and have never had a problem. No one around here in California uses photo radar from what I have seen unless its VASCAR.

In order for the LaserPro 905 to work, you must use a RX65, RX55, Vector 995, or Vector 965. The only detector on your list that would work with your system is the RX65. It has Ku band and an international Ka mode so it should work for you.

Wow boys!!!!!
Thanx a lot.
but.....
Laser pro 905 works JUST with RX65....... is it????
I thought that they were indipendent.... one from each other!!!!
(boys be patient with me....... I'm not an expert!!!!!)
So in this case (unless I change the whole system.....) I have to go with the RX65!!!!!

You're welcome!
Yes, it's true (but I think that the situation is the same with RX-65).

Yes, most cases detectors aren't enough at lasers to avoid you from a ticket.
:!: But be aware please, that jammers are strictly forbidden in most countries of EU. :!:
Some Lidars (e.g. ProLasers) can't detect jamming but some Lidars (e.g. LaserPatrol) can show error code "E14" and/or error message "Jammed" to the cop.
If you don't care about that there is no question: Blinder is the N°1. But if it's important for you then I suppose you to look after Target LT-400 or Lidatek LE-30.

Are detectors illegal where u r from?? I run a RX65 and have the Intl setting, I have picked up a radar from over 2km away and when on a country road never once get a false alarm. Nice and easy to hide to. Why dont you wait and see if the new Brand X or y or what ever it is comes out...may be a better option for you ;)

nessuno,
If you really want to pick the best detector for you, buy a Bel 995, RX65, and a V1 all at the same time. Test them all out and keep the one you like best. Send back the other 2 before the 30 days is up.

Yeah what stealthJamal said is probably the best advice :D
Unless you try them yourself, you may end up wondering what you are missing by not having one of the others :D

Good advice, but he lives in Italy so that is not very practical at all. His shipping and handling fees and turn-around time would be considerable in his case.

Hail boys!!!!!!!!!!!!
So many people helping me.... WOW!!!!
Thanx a lot!!!
Still I'm a bit confused.....
I just had a look to the Valentine V1: seems to be the best.
But even here in the old continent??
The problem, mainly, is the price! Ok, you must pay for the quality......
But it costs almost twice..... than any other unit!!!!!! At least here in Europe......
I pay, ok...... but does it have twice of the functions, or is the double of the efficiency compared to Beltronics or else?????
I'm just asking.....
I met a nice German girl this morning (when I say NICE........ I mean REALLY nice!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) that is an electonical engineer an she suggested me to have a look to this unit:
Bel vector 940 international
(have a look)
www.radarwarner.ws/portable-radarwarner.htm
or go with the EURO 550.
She said that they are not the best of the best........ but they work well!!
Well, to STEALTH JAMAL ( by the way..... why JAMAL??? do you know what does it mean in arabic????).....
Thanx. I agree with you. That's the way should be....... To find the best detector!!!!!!!!!
But is not very practical. I think that if I buy the Bel 995, RX65 and the V1, all together...... It will be a bit too much!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (...and why not ? the UNDERTAKER on the passenger seat...... just in case the detectors fail!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
For that price ( units, tax, fees shipment etc. etc.) I can almost buy an armed F-117 STEALTH on the black market........
Boys........Still I need your help: I'm in your hands!!!!
thanx
I think that in Europe the BEL/Target EVO966 should be the most efficient on Highways with Blinder or LT-400, but you have to spend a mass of money to get the best. Valentine1 also good and pricy.
I think that BEL Vector 940 is an old model - I never seen it. BEL/Target Euro550 should be a good choice both on roads and in urban areas: it has a fair warning distance and an excellent City mode.
You don't need any F-117 really because Luke Skywalker's lightsaber would be strong enough for you against all kind of traffic lasers!

Good luck choosing the right detector for you. Just realize that without the right Beltronics detector, the LaserPro 905 unit will not operate for you at all so your friend could probably sell/give it to someone else.
940 INTERNATIONAL!!!!!!! NOT THE NORMAL ONE.
Well, I know 2 possibilities only.
1) Beltronics coached some detectors for an European travel. It means that these detectors developed to the US market but can detect Ku band, too. These models were/are BEL Vector 940;985;990;995 and ProfessionalSeries RX-65. You should buy them worldwide.
2) Beltronics makes a series together with Target Automotive for the European market only. They're developed especially for European use. These models are BEL/Target Euro 330;550;966 and you should buy them all over Europe.

GOOD NEWS....... (I hope!!)
I misunderstood my friend!!!! I spoke with him yesterday evening: and he said that what he got is 904, and not the 905.
He said also, that the 904 should work indipendentely, so I can get any detector...... is it true???????
bye
jbird

Yes, it will work independently then much like the Escort ZR3 system. A review that I saw a while ago said that the front sensors leaked water after a period of time. It may be worth it to put an some kind of external water shield around them.

..."You are the light in the darkness of my ignorace!!!!!!"
Jokes apart, in 2 days I'll place my order.
Now, as I said before...... no more talking about brands or units.
I'm very close to the finish line........
Tell me please A or B for Italy (Europe):
A:
VG-2
LASER
X- band (9.41 - 9.9 - 10.525 - 10.600)
Ku-band (13.45)

Ka-band (34.00 - 34.30 - 34.70)
Super wideband Ka (33.4 - 36.0)
And a quick one more.......
What is the "POP"??????? Do we have in Europe????
bye, bye...
sethy

POP is a radar shot so fast that a detector will not pick it up. There are 2 series of pop.
You have the Z-series that will lock a speed of a vehicale is 16ms, handheld unit (must be used in a stationary position). Detectors have not picked this one up. V1 claims that they can detect 10-20% of the time. This is accurate within 1 mile an hour.
Second you have the MPH Bee III series, which will lock a speed of a car in 68ms, can be mounted in a car. The top 3 will pick this POP up. But its accuracy is awful.
As for it being used over in Italy, I couldnt tell you for sure.

When I was watching Telegiournale 1 on RAI the other day, they had a segment on speeders. All the cops had only Eurolasers. You saw so many shots of eurolasers, and then the newscaster saying "motorista",,, I got the gist of it, the police are out on the roads giving tickets again.. I wish I could speak Italian!
Plus all the cars were driving so fast! compared to here... 130, 140, 160km/h I see the cars going and the policia are out... :D

Police always around.......
You saw the "telegiornale"????????????????? Great!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Anyway.
I'll teach you italian...... it's easy!!!
130 - 140 - 160 km/h...... is not so fast. Here (AND NOT ONLY) some peole on the hiways go very fast -police or not-............. WARP SPEED!!!!!

Unfortunately we have to talking about at least brands. I saw units which can detect 13.450GHz - but on its box only. I know detectors where it is written simply "All Bands" - on the boxes only. Everyboy saw dashboard units which can protect you against all radars and lidars - but on the boxes, only. I suppose you to look after first for informations which show how can detect the chosen detector against european speed-traps.
By the way, you may need detection on 10.525/24.125/34.3GHz in Italy. Here isn't any instant-on or POP radar in Europe as I know.
