I just got off the phone with VR and asked if they were going to be coming out with any new RD in response to the recent release to the Escort 9500i? They said that they do not have anything coming out in the near future but have some things in the works and are always looking for new improvements.

They admitted that they have a 9500i in their possession and have tested it extensively. They concluded that it does have the exact range of the old 8500 x50. They also compared the current V1 3.858 to the new 9500i and the V1 has the 9500i beat in radar/laser detection range and sensitivity :!:

Thats all he said.

Although I completely agree with the V1 having better range...

Wouldn't it have been funny to hear the guy go... "Man they kicked our A$$. We need to go back the the drawing board! I'd go get a 9500i if I were you! Good bye."

Honestly, what do you think he was going to say?

No surprise there. The only apparent advantage the 9500i offers over the V1 is the GPS features (lockouts, mark locations, speedometer readout, speed adj sensitivity etc.). If these things don't appeal to you then the V1 is the only way to go. UNLESS Escort enables the USB port for flash updates. This would be very nice!

If this is true, that is very disappointing. Wouldn't surprise me if it is true because the 9500i has the same specs for radar receiver type as the X50.

I just thought it would clear up some questions to someone trying to decide between the two.

I come to the conclusion that VR prides themselves on detection range and Escort on filtering. So if you decide which you do more, City of Highway driving the decision is clear. :idea:

If indeed the non GPS performance of the 9500i is equal to that of the 8500 X50 and after reviewing its performance (X50) at the last GOL test then that is a let down. The V1 trumps! Decide for yourself whether or not all the extras on the 9500i are worth it, OR needed.

I feel the decision is pretty clear.

V1 - open road, rural, highway driving - Excellent range. None better.

Escort - urban, city, suburban driving. Reduced range but much more quiet to those pesky door openers.

Correct. I don't see why all the bickering/bashing. If the "false positive radar not LEO signals" bothers you that bad then go with the 9500i. If they don't, go with the V1. Simple.

Can you imagine though what a nice RD we would've had if V had added the GPS and its available functions to the V1. :D :D :D

If they have a 9500i then they are worried. Remember they also said POP was a useless feature. So useless they implemented it to save sales.

Yes, very much so for my city detector. Very appealing alternative to my X50.

I think like any company concerned about their competition they always buy the competitors product to open it up and check for improvements AND to verify no patent infringements. I know they purchased the 8500 X50 when it came out and Escort does the same with regard to the V1. I believe while V felt POP was a somewhat useless feature, they responded to the masses that were running over to Escort and that is why they incorporated it into the V1.

Maybe this is all over my head (call me a newb) but everyone talks about the V1 having superior range over all other RDs. What kind of range are we debating here? On an open, straight road, if the V1 detects an LEO from 3 miles away and a 9500i detects an LEO from 2.5 miles away, does it really make a difference? Will it take you that extra half mile to slow down to PSL? And, anyways, I always hated my RD (old 7500) detecting an LEO radar two miles ahead because for those two miles I was going slow when he could only get me at 1000 feet. So unless I was going 120 and needed to slow down to 35, I think a 2 mile warning would suffice. I could be wrong and I am sure everyone here will tell me. lol. :lol:

It is important because if you live in a area where "instant on" is the norm that half a mile distance @ 60 mph gives you an extra 30 seconds to detect a LEO triggering a car in front of you

That doesn't surprise me. I didn't expect the 9500i to beat the X50 in sensitivity using the same receiver. I doubt they tested range though. More likely they just tested sensitivity. :wink:

The main reason to buy the 9500i is the GPS lockout capabilities.

Range:
V1 = 10/10
X50 = 9/10

I note with interest it has Ku band on it. Though even Escort says it's the same as the X50 which seems correct. And Ku adding on a X50 is a trivial issue.

you bring up an interesting opinion!

Basic tactics is to posses the enemy's weapons. Every manufacturer does this nothing new here

That seems what people were expecting in terms of performance. There looking for business till a new one is out, so you couldn't expect them to say anything else could you ?
