i've just recently gotten a an 8500 x50 in blue and its great, but i have a couple questions about RD's in general..

1. Is lots of shaking bad? I have two 12's in the back and when ever i turn em up i can see the RD vibrating really fast, and i can hear it if i listen hard enough.

2. Is it bad to leave it in the car? Like will temperature affect it, or any other weather in any way?

3. is this:
https://www.escortradar.com/cp/cgi-bin/cp-app.cgi?&pg=prod&ref=smartcord_dir_blue
what i would need to hard wire my RD? just confused because it hsays direct wire but im pretty sure its hte same thing

TIA :D

Temp won't really affect the detector. It might false a little when warming up if it's REALLY cold, but thats about it.

Just don't leave it in the sun too.

Well, with any kind of electronic and plastic, it's not good for it to be in DIRECT sunlight.

That's what I hear.

Its not necessarily bad for it to BE in the sun for periods of time. But, when you're not using it - I would try to keep it out as much as possible.

Hardwiring it to your roofline also keeps it much cooler as only the front lil bit of it - if any - gets direct sunlight.

Shaking, minor shaking isn't necessarily bad for it either. But if it bounces every time you hit a little bump - I would invest in some new shocks - or a new way to mount it.

Shaking shouldn't be too much of a problem, since it absorbs road shock all the time.

Most people recommend NOT leaving it in direct sunlight when not in use, and that high heat (excess of 150-deg in the car) can cause it to fall out of tune. I put mine in the center console when not in use. That also reduces theft likelihood.

I believe that is the smart cord hardwire kit, but I'm not sure if there's one without the smartcord. If you'd purchased a Whistler Pro 73, it would have come WITH the hardwire. :p :)

Good luck.

Try to keep it out of the sun. It is fine when your driving and have AC on but when it gets 100+ in the car it can mess up the detector. Mine got put out of tune like this last summer and i had to send it in.
About the shaking, it is not bad. If it annoys you you can purchase a visor clip that hold the radar detector on you visor rather then on your windsheild. That clip is availible from radarbuster.com or from escort.

Don't know what what car you have but if I were you, try to squeeze it in between the "roof" and the rear view mirror. That way it won't get that much sun, even here in Florida(especially if you have a tint strip like I do), and the X50 doensn't bounce at all. Just basically rest it on the mirror.

Whenever you leave your car, I'd take it down and put in in the center console. Trust me, the 5 extra seconds it takes to take it down will be worth it.

Take it out of the sun when you plan to be away from your car for sometime.

i drive a 2006 civic, the windshield is very long and steep and its kind of annoying, ill try to mount it higher

and since summer is starying to roll around ill start to place the RD into the center console or something.

thanks guys

also, im probably going to take it to sound advice to have it hard wired later today, 30 bucks, is that a good price?

$30 is expensive considering all you need to do is get a piece of rj-11 phone cord and make sure that you have the two center pins in the correct polority. it would be better to not use solid wire as it can break easier and is also harder to work with. Use stranded cord.

well i just took it to sound advice and got it done.

i probably should of done it my self, because they mounted it really low.

i moved it higher then what they did but it pulled out some extra cord and now it looks ghetto rigged.

ill probably take it back later and have them re do it and have em mount it mid height. probably later on this week.

Oh so you paid someone to do it? Why?

i know close to nothing about electronics and wiring etc...

but i can do basic modifications such as CAI, cat back exhaust, short shifter and bushings etc.

any ways im taking it back and having them re do it because they mounted it really low and the wire is going to be run from the top
