HEY! I was just wondering if anyone else on here cleans there RD (inside & out) every couple of weeks? I dunno if its just me, but I put on surgical gloves, line up my microfiber towel, get my brothers brushes (he used them specifically for circuit boards when we studied electrical engineering at USAFA), and I get Monster Plasma TV Cleaner to clean my lenses (works VERY well)! My girlfriend thinks I'm an "obsessed weirdo".
Anyways just wonder!
Oh...are there any Autopians on this forum?

I, too, use the Monster LCD screen cleaner and it is amazing. Perfect for my lense, too.

I clean my lens every once and a while but I never take it apart.
Hey if you can do it without breaking it, more power to ya....

I remember when I cracked my RMR open and found
that it contained 2 Christmas lights and a plastic circuit
board. Boy was I impressed......

i just wipe down the lenses with the crown royal sleeve i stash it in, every once in a while. why would crack the case open to clean it out?

Yea, I clean my laser jammer heads, I hate seeing dust on them, don't wanna get crappy punch through because of some specs on the outside of the lens

Hey what kind of detector and any inside shots? I wouldn't do anything like that till the warranty was up. Oh does it work better after you clean it like i have read here somewere before?

You're really not asking this group are you? Not sure it would qualify as exactly "normal" itself. :D

Nope, I don't clean my RD inside. Sometimes on the lens, but they rarely EVER get dirty!

ya thats a good idea, ill take some pictures later. I have an X50....and obviously i love it!!! i also read it on here that after someone cleaned there RD they got better range. I dunno, it could be true but im not willing to find out, so i keep it clean all the time! I know that when i bought my RD it was already pretty dirty. the inside & out was covered in that black felt fuzzy stuff that lines the box it comes in.

I got all kinds of smashed bugs on mine at the end of a days ride. It sits in the open on a motorcycle.

I soak it down with some Plexus Plastic Cleaner and wipe it off with a Microfiber towel. Good as new!

Dunno about taking it apart. Might be filled with blood and guts. Uck!

you should look into something like these covers, depending on what detector you have.

http://www.radarbusters.com/products/accessories/motorcycles/radar-cover.asp

it works great and keeps the detector clean and bug free.

I am an autopian too, but I don't clean my detector inside. All I do is every 3 weeks clean the lenses with a good glass cleaner and then I dress the rest of the detector. The plastic parts get Sonüs cockpit detailer, the trim shiny parts get Finish Kare 1 (FK1) #425 :)

How would you rate that plasma cleaner against one of the top retail glass cleaners, such as NXT, eagle one 20/20; or the boutique ones, being detailers paradise prima the top?

I would love to get my RD cleaned by someone like you who knows what they are doing, I am too scared to touch it.
