I know there are a couple of people on here, in the Ann Arbor MI area. I just got my first RD. (got it after having to write a check for a ticket in a stupid 25 mph area on a country road, but anyway). I get off I 94 at State St. everyday and my X band lights up. It has to be something stationary b/c it is there everyday. There are camera's and things mounted with the stop lights but i wouldn't think that they would emit radar. I am just curious to what is causing it to shoot up so high.

Also there was a leo coming towards me, and there was nothing on the RD. Then full K band, so I am assuming that he didn't have it on and just flipped it on a bit in front of me. It didn't give much reaction time though, I wasn't speeding so it was no biggy but... I currently have the RD mounted low, but i think it would serve better being higher up.

I think i just need to get better at interpreting what my RD is telling me, all in due time I guess. I just want to say that this forum has been very helpful. I have learned a lot.

The X-band is what some call a "false" alert, or a "false positive." Basically, something is transmitting on x-band (automatic door opener is most common) and your detector is just doing its job. Remember, since the frequency (x-band) is the same as a leo's x-band radar gun, your detector is confirming that is has found a signal.

Definately K-band instant on. Leo pulled the trigger, and you got your full alert. Again, you'll learn that IO can be deadly, especially if your the only one on the road.

There's much dispute as to where the detector should be mounted. Down low will give you a better chance at detector laser, up high should give you a little added range to detect radar. Mine, is mounted in the middle of my windshield.

Welcome to the forum.

Fellow A2 resident here. You can turn X-band off. Neither A2 cops nor U-M cops use it. All you'll do is pick up automatic door sensors and such. That area at State St and Eisenhower Blvd is replete with stores that will have automatic sensors. If you want to see your X-band go crazy, just drive down Stadium Blvd between Pauline and Maple and see how many door openers you pick up.

You can turn off your X band for the most part in Michigan. Watch out along I-94 though, I talked w/ a guy who got hit w/ POP radar between Jackson and Battle Creek :( . Hope you enjoy your rd and welcome to the board. :D
