View Full Version : Food 4 Thought

I was thinking yesterday about this and figured I would post here and see what all of you thought.

What would you do if suddenly radar detectors were to be banned where you live? What if they got banned nation wide?

I myself would have the STI on order, but I mean what would you do or feel about it. If it were to happen it would make all other radar detectors or rather running any other RD useless and at a higher risk.

Now that you are aware that something like this could happen ( odds are against it I know) but would you keep your non rdd proof rd or order the STI?

No bashing please as this is just some food for thought. I am curious what you guys have to say about it.

TIA

well think about it, the only good detectors including the sti are made in America if they became illegal, i wouldn't doubt that the sale would too.

Responding to cdilln, thumbs up to your answer man. In my line of work driving truck, some of us deal w/ this question on a daily basis.

I'd get an STI and set it up like this.....
Now if VG2 was the only threat, I'd just hide my X50..

Honestly, I can't drive without a detector now
I've had one for 15 years and now I'm way to use
to having one.

Where do I start????????

I live where it is banned. I don't worry for the following reasons...

1) ticket is small $150
2) no points
3) no confirmed spectre
4) turn it off when you get a good signal (kill switch)

I wouldn't get the STI solely because it is invisible.

Keep in mind if a federal ban was passed, it would likely include a ban on sale and manufacture of RDs! So that would put VR out of business. BELs are made in Canada so maybe you could still get them on the black market.

I would stock up on the STi if I thought a federal ban had a good chance of passing. And I would get some elcheapo Cobras to act as decoys.

My V1s do not have the digital temp compensation so they are still relatively stealthy.

And don't assume a federal ban would have such light penalties. Look at Ontario. When RDs were banned in trucks in NY state, it was going to be a felony! Some last minute legislative maneuvering reduced that to a misdemeanor.

I would not take such a benign view of RD bans!

I got the STi for stealth use as I use it in a commercial vehicle in Florida. I could be in double jeopardy:

That second link is filled with misinformation! The National Safety Council and Olerich have to lie in order to promote their cause! Only 1 state bans RDs in all vehicles and that is Virginia.

Those of you who live in FL contact your legislators to oppose the bill. If enough of you contact them, they will listen. Just a short letter or phone call is all that it takes. State legislators, unlike our US Congressmen, actually do listen to the voters.

That's why I put in the 3rd link to show how misleading it was.

Yes, the third link was excellent! I forgot to mention that in my previous post.
