Hi all, long time radar detector user (I had the original Escort way back when) but a noob to this great site.
Anyway, I have an RX65 that has always drove me crazy with false laser alarms.
It's generally in the same places all the time and I suspect either neon signs or something else doing it.

I've had this detector for a couple of years now and I was wondering if the technology has improved any so that maybe I should upgrade?

I'm on Long Island and travel to Manhattan several times a week from Suffolk County if anyone else is from that area.

I was considering a Valentine V1 which in the past I never did because they always seemed to be behind the times (no flames please).

Is there any great difference between the V1 and RX-65?
Should I purchase a laser jammer instead because I know the Nassau cops use laser (especially near the SOBE and 495 intersection up in the woods)

Advice?
Thanks again.
Steve

Well try searching for one ;)

Two, the best thing to do is order it and try it out for 30 days and then either return it or keep it. I have both the V1 and the 65 but I use the V1 daily. The 65 is for backup. You could always do that too. Keep one for daily use and the other for a backup.

But definitely try both and judge for yourself.

Thanks Ace!
Yea, I've been wearing out the search function on the board as well as my eyeballs!

My personal opinion is that the rx65 is better in large cities. Laser falses are even more frequent in a V1. So far I have had brake lights and infinities set off the V1 laser. V1 has much better laser and K detection then the rx65 so it will be more prone to falsing on those bands.

i agree and think you should get a laser jammer before even considering a new detector. the V1 is a great unit, but you will get probably as many or even more false readings. its the nature of your environment though and not the detector. the X50 seems to have the best filtering technology. there are tradeoffs with whatever decision you make.

I'd say keep what you have, and save that money towads a jammer. If you have falses with the RX65, then you will probably have those same falses with the V1.

OK i drive the same areas as you. hamtons and new york city. You are going to get alot more alarms whith a V1 they you are getting now with your Rx65. To be honest the Rx65 is about as good as it gets in terms of filtering. Also do you have Xband on or off and what are the other settings of your detectorl.
thanks

Hi!
I have the same settings as you do, only I have X-band on because it does get used out east on 495 between exits 64-70.
They have one car that has an X band unit in it and he is usually out there nights sitting in the middle, lights out.

I've been reading all the reports and the advice seems to match what ya'll are saying.
I'm going to look into a jammer because with the exception of the false laser hits, the RX65 has not let me down.
