Hi, I am new to this forum.

I was going to buy Bel V955 today at Circuit City. However, the price is more expensive today, so I decided not to buy it. Then, the guy said that he was caught 2 times recently due to police in the chicago area are using KU band. Is it true that KU is being used in U.S. now?

Should I go with Bel V995 now since it can detect KU band? Please let me know your thought.

Ku isn't used anywhere in the USA.

If the guy was telling the truth and got caught 2 times, it wasn't due to Ku. More likely laser, or instant-on, or pacing.

Thanks. He told me Chicagoland is starting to use KU slowly. I don't know how he got that information. If it is not used, I would go with v955 then. But for future growth, would V955 a better option?

Do research on the net, dont listen to salesmen in the store, most of the time there just trying to get commission or have no clue what there talking about.

i somewhat understand that joke... i heard someone say it the other day.... i know there is no suck thing as blinker fluid, but what the heck is it going after????

Chicago has been using Photo radar for a while. The salesman probably thought it was the same as European photo radar which is Ku.

t think the european cameras even use KU. He probably read a cobra box and decided that KU band is the next big threat.

It's constantly sold-out, bruddahs, because my wife's been buying by the case.

And yes, I've told her to get out of her car to turn her hood-scoop around when it's raining out - or else the rain will melt her top-mounted intercooler. :lol: :lol:

I worked retail electronics for over nine years. Iwas on commission. While I never sold RDs,the same general principles applied: if we thought the customer would buy because of a feature that may or may not apply to their particular item, we would tell them. Until I learned how to sell properly,that's how I did it too. That was 16+ years ago. Nowadays, very few salespeople in retail electronics bother to obtain product knowledge to use as selling tools. So it is up to us to educate ourselves.

I keep seeing people say that KU won't ever be employed in the states, but why for? FCC regulations? Or just no real need to upgrade?

Hello,

IMHO, due to what frequency it is, Ku band is used mainly in Europe. It uses a frequency of 13.450 GHz very close to the old / about gone X band (10.525 GHz).

Why would LEO's move down when they have been moving up to K or Ka?
Using the higher radar bands makes more sense, K is a bit harder to detect then X, Ka is even twice again harder to detect. Another plus is the size of the horns, X band where 'huge', K about 1/2 the size and Ka about 1/4.
