OK as i am coming down a hill in my subdivision i was doing roughly 30 mph(20PSL) i get a full IO blast of K band until i am down to 20mph.... no cops around... no speed trailers.... it happens in a lil valley there is a lake to the left and woods to the right... as soon as i start going up the hill the arrows go to the back and then the signal is gone????? cant find anything that it could be it is really weird.... and not to mention there are 0 cops when this happens...............

well..to be honest here....

you know reading on this forum, there are quite a few people that have their own radar guns...and like to sit and "monitor" traffic for fun.

maybe someone was in a car doing this? or a house shooting out the window? ya just never know.

Where do people get these old radar guns from anyway?

I've had other detectors do that before, and almost full strength too...

if it makes a habbit of it something could be wrong w/ the electronics.

it was probably either someone w/ a radar gun or a fluke signal maybe from a phone or another RD.

I have a piece of crap motorolla phone that will make a lot of my electrnics do wierd things before it rings.

I got full strength K band signals from farm tractors. Strange....

there is a system for tractors that uses radar to gauge distance and speed. it looks like a fish finder for a boat and iirc it uses 24ghz k band. i've only seen one but i know they're popular around here (west texas = cotton capitol).

Yup, I have had those from Unidens (my neighbor has one) and Cobras, and some very strong alerts too.

Some Unidens cause X band falses, some cause K band falses. Don't know if any Unidens cause Ka falses but certainly is possible. Fortunately Uniden is out of the RD business.

I got full strength K band signals from farm tractors. Strange....

up here in northern michigan, there are a lot of farm tractors.....and actually i have passed up several over the years that DO have the kband signal!

Current farming economics reinforce the importance of efficiency in farm tractor operations. Maximizing the efficiency of a tractor requires the optimization of tractor weight, tire pressures, and operating speed for the given load and soil condition. Because maximum tractive efficiencies occur when tires operate within a narrow range of slip, slip at operating load can be used as an indicator of the optimum performance point. A problem is that accurate measurement of slip under working conditions can be difficult in farm situations. While slip measurement devices are available, many new tractors and most older ones do not have them. The result is that "on the farm" tire slip is often measured manually, estimated or simply ignored.

This paper reviews current and past slip measurement techniques, both in experimental work and in common farm practice, and describes a simple method of obtaining accurate slip values on a tractor by using a pair of radar guns. The system is universal, portable, quickly attached and requires no modifications to the tractor.

Great pic of radar installation here...:

how often is that even a problem? honestly...

i live in BFE cotton land with more tractors than people and have never had this problem. i've only seen the radars a few times and never once that i can recall recieved a signal from one.

X2. I do not consider farm tractors a major problem. The signal is very weak and is easily pointed out by my V1's arrows.

The only time the tractors are a problem is if I am stuck behind one on the road.

Not sure if others have this same problem, but I use the iden type cell phone. This is not GPRS or CDMA, but some other weird version. It is neat, before it rings it makes my sterio make some weird ticking noise. It also made my X50 give a X band false alert.

I have a blackberry now on the iden network and it is not as bad at the motorolla.

If it's unpredictable and it's not a LEO I would consider it a problem.

Thats caused by the way the GSM signal is being divided. It uses frequency hopping and time slotting to reduce co-channel interference and any sort of data corruption. GSM uses 1/8th of a time slot so as a result is pulsing. This is what causes the popping in speakers and jumping on CRT monitors. Not to mention the fact that its jumping between frequencies as well. The weaker the signal, the louder it becomes because the phone is trying to put out more power to reach the tower.

Granted I may work on CDMA phones, GSM theory is taught as well where I work. Dunno why. Possibly because both are based off of TDMA if im not mistaken.

Oh, I also forgot. Its most prevalent in phones and devices that don't employ some sort of EMI damper.

Sorry, I shall stop geeking out. >>;

its a known speeding area and cops are usually running radar here...but lately i haven been seeing as much but i wonder if someone is doing their own little work with a bushnell possibly

If its some random guy shooting a bushnell then there's really nothing you can do about it. You have to slow down for the signal even if you can't confirm its source.
It is possible that there could be some crazy guy thats "fed up" with speeders and percieves enforcement as weak in that ares so he's decided to hide in the bushes and make a list of car speeds.
I've heard of stranger things happening.

why would you NOT turn ku off?

you been reading cobra's propaganda saying ku is coming ZOMG BREAK OUT THE KU GUNZZZ!!!

I read on the forum the RX-65 does a lot better in USA mode for Ka band radar. Since it only has to look for that frequency of radar.

The V1 tends to pull signals out of it's ass.

The X50 rarely does this. You didn't mention which RD you were using.

My dual band ham rig will set off radar detectors at very close ranges. An old Bel I used to have would even alert laser sometimes! A V1 would alert K or Ka. I don't honestly remember what my old 7500 did. This is simply because of the presence of a strong RF source nearby wreaking havoc on the electronics inside the detector. Its doubtful it would be a problem more than 10-15 feet from the car though.

Also, there is ZERO need to have Ku on in the states. Even its use in Europe is quite limited from what I've read.

My money is there's a paranoid neighbor with a radar gun set up to try to get people to slow down. There was a jerk in my parent's neighborhood that did the same thing until the HOA made him stop. He let his very young kids play in the driveway and front yard without supervision and then went on a tirade about people driving too fast past his house, when in fact most people weren't doing right around the speed limit per the Sheriff's department.

I get a consistent, low-strength X-band "false" alert during my daily commute (if I set the x50 to full X-band reporting, that is).

No enforcement. And there are no vehicles parked close enough to the roadway for this to be caused from a leaky detector.

I read somewhere here on these Forums that certain home security/alarm systems do utilize X-band motion detectors or otherwise leak sufficiently in that area to potentially cause interference, and I'm inclined to believe that this is what's doing the trick.

In so far as I can tell, I did not spot any HAM antennas in the area....
