Alright, I'm leaning towards the V1 right now but this is my alternative. So I'm looking for reasons why you guys prefer this over the V1? Basically, try and talk me out of it...

well i had an X50 for almost 2 years then switched to the V1..... Mainly because my X50 would miss laser alerts when i was being targeted(even when mounted low), where as the V1 has alerted me every time so far...... so thats why i switched... right now i cant afford a laser jammer cuz of gas costs and my new anti-drug in weightlifting/bodybuilding, for all the supplements i am taking now....

Well I have a laser jammer so...which one would you prefer? Is the falsing really as bad as some people say with the V1?

Hey a fellow ohion. Columbus is a pretty good & bad city for the v1.
I have never seen X used in columbus, however state patrol uses it so you cant really turn it off. up 270 toward the columbus international airport, my v1 falses for about 3 or 4 miles until I switch it to the big L mode. (isnt a big deal at all)
What i love about the v1 in columbus is that their undercover cars use constant on KA, so with the v1 you can actually locate their undercovers.
If you drive on the highways and not so much downtown - v1. If you do heavy driving downtown columbus, or a 50/50 combination of the two, I do think the x50 would be your best bet; however, if you think you can handle a larger amount of falses, the v1 wouldnt be a bad choice either.
If I were you, I would order a v1, test it out in your area and determine if you can live with the falses in your area or not.
Where exactally do you drive in columbus? highways? down town?

I guess it would all depend on where you plan on driving with your radar detector. There are some places that are just not radar detector friendly, while others that even a V1 would be silent as a mouse. Don't really know about Cleavland, Ohio. Maybe someone from there could chime in.
If you have the money, try them both out. People may tell you what to buy based on their personal experience, but nothing beats your own experience.

I didn't think they could get you with undercovers in Ohio??

Oh and I drive the highways to and from columbus to athens a lot...might be moving to florida this summer though...already have a laser jammer so laser detection isnt an issue for me. Doesn't the valentine have some kind of a city mode so it isnt so noisy?

I switched after being a loyal escort fan for six years, and now I wouldn't go back. The V1 is a very good detector, it is not bad in the city, with X disabled anyway. It does have 2 city modes, and a plethora of user programable options to suit your driving style. I would ask for programming preferances from people in your area, (in the V1 forum of course) and give it a try. If you don't like it you can always return it.

If you're moving to Florida, you'll be able to turn off X :)

Hey Sethy, I ran across X band being used in Columbus the last time I was there. I believe I was on the 315 freeway rolling N-bound right over by OSU. The LEO was running S-bound using I/O X band.
