so I would say I was going 95 comming over a small crest on a straight away. All the sudden, full bars K band -or atleast close to full. I slammed on the brakes and skidded to about 40 mph (it was a 65mph zone). Im sure he saw me skid, I sure saw him in pretty plain view. The cop followed me for the 4 strenuous miles of the straight away- of which I was plan ning on trying to max out my car...

when I put on my brakes, I lost my front turn signal...

on the trip, I made it to 140mph...

humm, thats crazy, so I thought if you were hit with full bars they did have you speed. And your right, thats how the crappy small towns make money in Southpark, so surely they would have pulled me over. I was so close to him though. And all I have is my little V940....

If you get hit with instant on (I dont think I was this time...) do they have you speed litterally right away?

The skidding was very straight. I wanted to slow down AS FAST AS POSSIBLE. ABS assist in that I suppose- what with the skidding. And maybe someone on here can help me out with this but I can't help but wonder if slowing down more then I needed gave the cop a lower reading and if I would have stopped slowing at 65 if he would have cought me speeding.

I know all to well that is where they hide, it was my mistake. I have driven this 8 hour drive plenty of times. I think that because I had just seen a cop, I thought I was good to go.

Do you see any neon? or chrome? or reatarded huge wheels? What about obnoxious paint colors? Fart-can exhaust? The E36 is a great platform for race cars, and some of the best drivers (within the class they fit in) drive them. Granted they are modified way beyond mine, but 95mph on a straight away should be fine. I swear by BMW. That is all. 3+ years ago was something else, but I keep my car under control since then.



The limiter on the car is 140 MPH. I have a chip that takes that away but I doubt it will go past 150 and I also doubt I would want to take it past 150.

Any radar built in the past 20 years or so can get enough of a reading from someone slowing quickly. It might have confused an old Speedgun (readings would jump by 5-7 mph depending on the rate of acceleration, if it just didn't blank out!) but it wouldn't likely fool anything used by most law enforcement today.

I concur with everyone else though, if he had gotten your speed, you would have received proof...in the form of a fairly expensive ticket.

He got your speed unless he was at some strange angle that gave him cosign error. Most cops are trained well enought to know angles that will work with so I doubt it's that.

Why he didn't pull you, I'm not really sure. After seeing your tail lights and skid marks after you slammed on breaks it surprises me. Tail lights are a sure sign to a cop that you know your speeding.

Your really lucky he didn't pull you, they would have taken your license on the spot. You more than like would have got them back after $800 dollars worth of attorney fees, fines, and court cost.

Just be careful man and don't do anything stupid. I'd hate for you to hurt someone or even wreak your ride.

Agreed. BMW saved my life (likely). Summary: The car I was following veared right and I was presented with a car stopped (with its hood up) right in the middle of the passing lane of a four-lane highway. After about 15 solid seconds of serious collision avoidance at highway speeds, I found myself just driving along again as if nothing had happened. Everything BMW engineers put into their cars became blindingly evident at that moment. I just wish I could see a replay of that incident... On the brakes! Off the brakes! Steer right! BRAKES!! Lift! Steer Left!!... etc. etc... but the car acted as if it ENJOYED the workout, LOL. I nearly had a dam heart attack!

If that's the case, ' Yes ' he had your speed. I was thinking that he was sitting stationary on the side of the road and you were coming towards him.

If he was driving toward you in plain view and you experienced full Bars, he had your speed. If it was sudden and your detector went full Bars then he nailed you with " Instant On " . Were there any other cars on the road by chance? If not you were the target.

And I am sorry if I seem like a douche who is trying to show off. I'm not. I am simply giving the facts about a situation and wanting to have a discussion about it. I don't drive like this nearly every day. I don't plan on trying to go 140 again, but its nice to know it can happen. Believe me Southpark is the safest place to try such a thing asside from a track.
